I think that universally, across all the soaps, the acting is awful. I think if you want to watch good acting - you steer clear of the soap brigade!

I think the very opposite is true. Soaps are constantly looked down on by the people who make, participate in or champion television drama but the fact of the matter is that they don't get ten chances to do every scene. They two hours of drama every week for fifty two weeks a year compared with one hour a week for six weeks a year. They actually don't a bloody good job. Most scenes are done in one or two takes with very little if any rehearsal time - scripts are only received the day before shooting! Acting in soap is basically the toughest thing this side of doing theatre and most people involved do a stellar job.

There are some awful actors in soap (Abi Phillips, Jorgie Porter and Craig Vye in Hollyoaks, Jimmi Harkishin - or however you spell his name - and Kym Marsh in Corrie off the top of my head), but also some brilliant ones (Claire Cooper in Hollyoaks, Jessie Wallace in Eastenders and Jane Danson in Corrie being the top 3 atm).

I like Slyvia too, though I agree she really is no replacement to Blanche in any way!

Sally: Who. Opened. My. BISCUITS!

*end scene*

That really made me laugh

I quite liked Julie's line tonight ... 'Everything was going ok until Dylan said he wanted ploppies ... then I was caught between two stools!'

And I adored the very last seconds of the Gary/Izzy/Owen scene. I'm glad the scriptwriters have not forgotten the trauma of war - tonight it was brought brutally to home.

Owen has grown on me SO much. I love him and Anna together <3 (ps hasn't she got better looking recently?)

I hope their writing Gary out, he's so annoying.

And when it comes to comedy, I think Sally Webster wins hands down. She gets some of the best lines.

Tracy calling Becky Lady Gaga

Excellent stuff with Gary & Izzy, that last scene was very intense.

Sally Dynevor is the best actress, in any situation, in any soap, full stop. She can handle comedy and drama equally adeptly.

I still crack up at her line about Molly being a "page three stunner"

I used to despise Sally, I think she's gotten a lot better since the breast cancer story though, especially post-Kevin. Same with Julie, I used to think she was really irritating but she has really improved in the past few weeks, especially last night.

Me too, I think it's on Youtube somewhere. I saw it and it made me laugh so much, yet again! If she's a 'page three stunner', then what are Sian, Rosie and Maria?

Ooh things are definately looking better ^_^ especially looking forward to Roy's Mum's scenes. Auntie Pam is returning in September also ^_^ will be interesting to see how she will stick around with Bill gone.

HUGE Carla spoiler:

Coronation Street factory boss Carla Connor will try to take her own life after Frank Foster rapes her, a report has claimed today.

The Weatherfield businesswoman, played by Alison King, is left devastated by Frank's vicious attack and later decides she has nothing left to live for when bookie Peter Barlow rejects her again, according to The Sun.

Last month, it emerged that Carla will be subjected to a physical and sexual assault by twisted Frank when he becomes jealous over her feelings for Peter (Chris Gascoyne). The scenes are apparently being filmed this week ahead of transmission in September.

Reports say that when Carla reports her ordeal and Frank (Andrew Lancel) is arrested, Peter tries to stand by his close friend but is later forced to heap on more heartache by knocking her back when she declares her love for him.

It is thought that Carla then tries to commit suicide by consuming a bottle of sleeping pills with red wine while she is alone at her flat. Shortly before losing consciousness, she is expected to phone Peter to reveal what she has done - prompting him to immediately call an ambulance and rush over to her home.

Viewers will then see Carla rushed to hospital for emergency treatment, while Peter blames himself for her desperate state of mind.

A Weatherfield source told the newspaper: "Carla is at rock bottom. She prides herself on being invincible and feels utterly broken by Frank's actions. Peter is the only friend she has left and she's never felt rejection like it. She wants to end it all."

Coronation Street bosses are thought to have thoroughly researched Carla's new storyline with the help of rape charities and support groups.

Sounds like the upcoming storyline will be amazing!

Becky's back :nocheer:

I just can't stand Becky. Can't wait for her to leave for good.

Didn't miss her while she was on holiday tbh -_- Could have stayed off screen, wouldn't have bothered me in the slightest. She once had potential but they've ruined her by taking her to the extreme.

They have indeed. She was introduced to us as some sort of scheming, psychotic witch ... turned into a sort of 'tart with a heart' ... then progressed to screaming, drunken harpy - eventually I lost track of what she was. Eventually, even as a viewer I just cannot have any sympathy for anyone who would rob the takings of a friend - not matter what the reason. Besides that - ever since Kylie turned up - Becky is redundant. The sooner Katharine Kelly moves on to other things the better both her and the program will be.

Deidre: 'My mum used to love watching Dancing on Ice. She used to sit there saying, ever so gently ... 'go on ... fall'!
