teenage lesbian kisses? oh dear, now thats getting desperate.

If Coronation Street do this story right ... and make it a long-term thing (i.e. for the duration of Brook Vincent's character of Sophie) then it could be good. I'd like to see them do it in a sophisticated 'Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit' kind of way rather than a sensationalised one.

Having said that ... and on a purely acting point of view ... I've been a bit disappointed with Brook Vincent's acting lately. I remember a few years back she was one of the funniest characters in the show ... when she had short screen-time ... with excellent one-liners. I think when she's on screen too long ... there are some serious flaws in her acting ... she has also become a bit boring.

If I'm honest ... I think Coronation Street needs to consider a really serious cast shake-up! It needs to bring back Amber ... and get rid of characters like the Peacocks, Stape, Fiz, Chesney. I'd say get rid of Ken Barlow but then Deirdre would probably have to go too ... and Deirdre is (some ham acting aside) a great character. I do like the way the older characters are getting good lines lately though - thinking especially of Rita and Audrey re-igniting the simmering feud that was there 30 years ago.

The Peacocks are fine I think, just need more better storylines or someone else who could join them like Claire's sister or something.

Kirk and Sean definately need to go along with Stape & Chesney, Fiz needs to go back to being wild and fun.

Ken can't go :o I love Dierdre :(

I actually never found her wild and fun ... for me, the character was annoying a long, long time before Stape came on the scene. All that simpering, mother hen act to Chesney ... and her frigging lisp really gets on my wick! Having said that ... when she puts some effort into it ... her hair can look good.

I'm in two minds about Sean - I detest Anthony Cotton (and from what I've read ... he is rather an unpleasant DYKWIA sort of w*n**r) but the character does get some cracking one-liners now and again ... which only his character can put over. Then again ... this is more a testament to the Street's writers than to Cotton.

I'm really looking forward to the return of Gary in the coming week or so. Corrie has handled this army storyline so much better than any of the other soaps ... they've done it slowly and surely ... and Gary's lines to his mother on why he was joining the army in the first place were so much more truthful and believable than the silly (but predictable) way Eastenders is handling it with Billy. When it tackles a situation ... Corrie (95% of the time) tends to stick with it to a meaningful conclusion ... this one is going in a brilliant direction.

Haha I can't believe I read 'Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit' in here. I can't seem to escape that damn book lately :(

Personally I think Corrie needs a massive change in direction and to get rid of a whole lot of characters. It's just so stale.

Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit was brilliant - one of my favourite ever programs. Mind you ... anything with Geraldine McEwan in is usually good value for money (although I thought her Marple was pretty dire!)

I like John Stape. I think him going back to teaching under a different name is silly. Surely the school will check to see if he will have a criminal record. It's all going to be one mess.

Oh dear oh dear I can't believe where this storyline is going. Another affair with a student. TUT TUT!

I'm sick to death of Kevin Webster snapping
Coronation Street couple Claire and Ashley Peacock are to be written out of the Weatherfield soap later this year, Digital Spy can confirm.

Actors Julia Haworth and Steven Arnold recently met with new producer Phil Collinson to discuss their future with the serial and all three parties mutually agreed that their characters had run their course.

Speaking of the decision, Collinson said: "Ashley and Claire Peacock have been part of the fabric of Weatherfield for many years but like any community, people come and go.

"Both the actors and myself felt that we had reached a crossroads with the characters, to the point that as actors they were not being fulfilled and stories were harder to find.

He continued: "We mutually decided to start working towards an exit for the Peacock family, giving the actors the chance to explore new opportunities and for us to devise a dramatic exit storyline.

"I wish Steven and Julia, and of course the young boys who play Josh and Freddie, all the best for the future."

Contrary to reports in the Manchester Evening News, however, show officials insist that no "dramatic showdown" or confrontation occurred at the meeting.

An ITV spokesperson said: "Julia and Steven are to leave the show but contrary to some press reports, there has been no confrontation with the show producer Phil Collinson."

They added: "All parties agreed this was the right time to say goodbye to the street's Peacock family."

Writers are said to be working on a "fitting exit" for the pair, who will remain on screen "until at least" the end of the year.

Arnold first appeared as butcher Ashley in 1995. He went on to marry Maxine Heavey (Tracy Shaw) four years later. Their happiness, however, was short-lived when she had an affair with Dr Matt Ramsden (Stephen Beckett), before being murdered by evil Richard Hillman (Brian Capron).

Ashley went on to marry Claire Casey on Christmas Day 2004. Their relationship, however, hit the rocks when she began suffering post-natal depression following the birth of their first son Freddie.

:( I used to love Claire when she first came onto the Street, but as times gone on they ruined her character tbh.

Its no surprise they are going as its been rumoured for ages, i do think they could have kept claire and killed ashley off, claire still has potential.
Claire and Ashley have been married 6 years?! :o WOW. That's a lot of Corrie I haven't watched.

I do think it's time for them to go but seriously - I am more concerned that the Peacocks are top of the axe list for Phil.

There is LOTS of characters who need to leave before them.

Natasha has now been axed :( I liked her.

Annoying how these people are going over deadwood like Kirk, Chesney & Sean

Love how they tried to make out her exit is a big deal lol. Yea erm, ok. She's been such a huge character I don't know how viewers will survive the loss.

Now when is Mr Cotton's exit going to be announced...
