October 9, 201014 yr I'm betting on a Stacey victory this time around. I'm not surprised that Shirley dropped (obviously), but I am that it was to THAT extent, and that she's now behind Big 'Ev. Admittedly 2009 was a quiet year for her, I think all she did was chase Phil around, and she almost stopped being a character in her own right. They totally ballsed up her family connections aswell, making VERY little of the Zsa Zsa opportunity. I don't think Heather will be getting the chop though. She's on the periphery at the moment, but she is still rather more popular than the likes of Minty, Manda, Garry, Dawn and the other members of the Losers Club who have all been dispatched recently. I can't see Pat EVER having another major storyline of her own - she is there pretty much solely to prop up Janine and Bianca now. Still, she's a comforting ever-present, and the show will need someone like her more than ever once June Brown inevitably ships herself off soon. Denise is a decent character, although being thoroughly outshined by Kim right now. I'm kind of surprised she managed to climb last year, because she had very little to do during that period, having not been fully drawn into the Lucas plot at that point.

October 10, 201014 yr Dissapointing to see Pat land outside the top 10. Ever since I started watching I've always considered her one of my favourites and frankly I've always prefered her to both Dot and Peggy. I dont think she really needs big Stacey/Ronnie-esque storylines either really, being of some relation to half the Square keeps her busy enough. Shirley missing the top 10 (over fxcking Tiffany aswell) seems a bit odd. Understandably was no longer going to win, having played second fiddle to Phil but still one of the show's great assets really. I really think it's a shame they broke the Phil/Shirley/Zsa-Zsa/Ben/Louise unit apart since it seemed to have the makings of a wonderful thing. Denise has also not had a partically strong year up until the Lucas plot draw to a close where it became clear really why she's previously been considered so brilliant. I hope she gets more moments to shine really, as the new Fox family unit again seems very very strong now that Kim has returned.
October 11, 201014 yr Author 10 Jane Beale 8.25 +++ 11 from C.R. +++ 10 from Aled, Dandy & Shoat --- 06 from Luke (Last year: 02nd, 8.18) http://stores.cuppajane.com/catalog/vanilla-nut-creme.gif The picture is making a STRICTLY ONE-OFF RETURN because I saw this and just had to use it. Jane Beale is indeed every woman's (and man's) source for all things tea and coffee in Walford, what with being Ian's faithful slave in the caf and all, but that isn't enough to prevent a little slide in popularity here. But a top ten is nothing to be scoffed at and Jane is thoroughly deserving of it - she's the calm in the middle of the storm that is the Beale household whenever Ian reaches a new phase in his mid-life crisis or Lucy decides to inflict more misery on somebody who is just trying to get through life without being blackmailed, humiliated or both. She's rational and caring, funny and up for a laugh (she and Tanya 'The Prototype Flawless Female' Branning being denied entry into the club whilst pissed and in 80s clobber remains a seminal moment in the history of the show) - if anything the size of her heart is her biggest downfall, with everybody practically waiting to trample on her. But Jane has too much dignity to become a tragedy case. She has class, and in Walford that's as rare as a pair of genuine Uggs not purchased off the market.
October 12, 201014 yr Jane is wonderful. It's been a LONG time since she's been at the front of the action (hence the drop I imagine), but she's by far one of the warmest characters on the show, which makes her quite rare on a serial that usually celebrates the cold and hard tarts who spend their days having catfights in the market. Hopefully when Nu Lucy makes her appearance and Tanya makes a full-time return, we'll see some more Jane Beale action.

October 19, 201014 yr Author 09 Janine Butcher 8.38 +++ 11 from Jark & Mikeyjosh +++ 10 from Gary, Luke & Ryan --- 01 from Mikey At numero nine we have the woman who has arguably been the biggest soap bitch of all-time. When EE brought Janine back in 2008 she could have been a reformed character with nothing on her mind but righting her wrongs and rebuilding the many, many bridges she burned earlier in the decade. MERCIFULLY the powers that be knew that nobody wants to see Janine being nice, simply because she is a TERRIBLE PERSON - a murderess part-time prostitute, and as if matters could be any worse she spent a short time working as an ESTATE AGENT. She's basically the devil with tits. And quite often she IS the tits, prancing around town antagonising 'fat, sweaty' (in her own words) pregnant women, faking robberies as a means of getting her hands on her flatmate's cash - and to think he went on to marry her - and sitting on Arthur's Bench waiting for £50 notes to start falling from the trees. So she's undeniably a classic character... but that doesn't mean the writers have a very good record with her of recent (in fact doing this rate now I'd probably give her a 9). She and Ryan split up so often you'd think they were impersonating Ross and Rachel, whilst for a time last year she would disappear for six week holidays and then show her face in the Vic once or twice before being barred (again) and going on holiday (again). But Janine has as much potential as ever and as long as it can be realised then she should be the mega bitch we all love to hate for years to come. Still... 'If only he'd worn slip-on shoes!' *wails*

October 19, 201014 yr No WAY can Tiffany be higher than Janine? I actually thought this whole thing was going to be a straight two-horse race between Stacey and Janine :o I agree nice Janine can NEVER work, but I was actually enjoying HAPPY Janine up until the Stacey reveal. Being honest, I'm a little bored of the whole Janine/Ryan on/off/on/off thing, and would much rather just see them stick together as a solid couple for a while, because they do have chemistry. Having said, I know it's simply not IN Janine's character to go log stretches without disaster or meltdown.
