October 22, 201014 yr Author Alas Tiffany is higher than Janine, yes. Buzzjack must always insist on at least one display of pure madness in these things... I'll continue tonight hopefully, but in the meanwhile, just for comparison, here are the results of the character survivor I ran on Popjustice earlier this Summer: 01 Ronnie Mitchell 02 Jane Beale 03 Janine Malloy 04 Zainab Masood 05 Stacey Slater And then the rest were eliminated over the course of five rounds, details of which I won't bore you with, but three of those five have still to appear in this countdown.
October 22, 201014 yr So essentially the reason this countdown has taken so long is because Jark has ABANDONED us for the Popjustice loons, who were most likely too busy bumming the latest pet project Xenomania's farted out anyway to actually care!
December 14, 201014 yr Author 08 Tiffany Dean 8.44 +++ 11 from FeelTheFever +++ 10 from C.R., James, Mikey, Ryan & Theo --- 05 from Luke (Last year: 26th, 5.35) The reason I've been putting off finishing this countdown was the knowledge that I had to find something to say about THIS UTTER SHAMBLES. Somehow six of you thought Tiffany Dean was a 10/10 character. I can only assume this has something to do with the fact that she saw through that dreadful little urchin Dotty - and in comparison little Maisie Smith might as well be Meryl Streep. But Tiffany is a bit-part player with a cute smile and the occasional slice of amusing dialogue - she is not a better character than Janine. So we will gloss over this anomoly and never mention it again. 07 Heather Trott 8.50 +++ 10 from Callum, Gary, FeelTheFever, Luke & Mikey --- 05 from Theo (Last year: 08th, 7.12) ...and by the same token it's probably best if we gloss over this one too. HEATHER TROTT, BUZZJACK! Good God. Heather's crowning moments to date have all either involved cheese, George Michael or... erm... well anyway, this is ridiculous and five of you have just made the value of a 10/10 redundant. The silver lining for Theo is that he's my new hero. In fairness to 'Ev she works well with Dot, but removing her flatshare with Shirley from the equation has turned her into instant deadwood. I'd be surprised if she's still in Walford two years down the line. 06 Tanya 'The Beast' Branning 8.69 +++ 11 from James +++ 10 from Callum, Jark, Mikeyjosh & Ryan --- 06 from Mikey & Shoat (Last year: 07th, 7.29) http://oi56.tinypic.com/jffbpg.jpg You redeemed yourselves Buzzjack. You know quality when you see it. You know class. When Tanya swooped down from the heavens to grace Walford with Her illuminatory presence a new EastEnd legend was born. She's a generous soul who has allowed a variety of men to bask in Her holy glow, from noted sexy ginger Sean Slater to newbie robo-builder Greg, but it was Her marriage to Max Branning in which She truly found the chance to demonstrate Her saintly patience and forgiving spirit. Max thought he could pull the wool over our heroine's eyes. He thought he could get away with giving his daughter-in-law regular seeings-to whilst also dipping his pen in Tanya's blessed ink. But The Glorious One doesn't take deception well, which for Max meant a spell inside - the ground. Ultimately though She knows where to draw the line (and if Max had died it would've equated to less sex for Her) and that is at cold blooded murder. However this heartache (for which Max will surely go to Hell) weakened our Queen. She had to leave town to rid Her mind of Max's poison. Don't fear though, for She has returned. That bitch Vanessa better watch her back.
December 14, 201014 yr Author Tyron if you're only ever going to enter this thread to bitch at me rather than commenting on the countdown itself you can fuck right off, my love.
December 14, 201014 yr That was HARDLY bitching at you! I was just commenting on the discrepancy between the score and your worship.
December 14, 201014 yr Author You should realise though that there's a slight element of irony in my worship.
December 14, 201014 yr OH DEAR at Heather! Literally one of the worst, most pointless characters there is! I love Tanya whenever she's featured, which is currently never, so boohoo.
December 14, 201014 yr You should realise though that there's a slight element of irony in my worship. I don't believe that for a single second. And OMG at actual results. The ranking of TIFFANY above Janine, Shirley, Max, Phil, Ian, Jane, Denise, Masood and all will remain a STAIN on Buzzjack history. Feel The Fever is to be promptly DELETED. I get that Tiffany is cute and all, and gets some funny lines, but seriously. NO child speaks or acts like that. It's ridiculous, and I think as she grows up, she will become infinitely less "adorable" and more and more panto child. NU CHESNEY Heather almost certainly wouldn't be this high up nowadays. Indeed, the splitting of the Shirley / Heather double act has proved almost FATAL for 'Ev, who is now essentially the female Minty - a pleasant but utterly NOTHING character used as little more than an extra for any pub scenes. Tanya needs to hurry and up and move back to the Square, because her big "comeback" has been incredibly underwhelming. I actually hope the writers DON'T go down the really obvious love triangle path when she comes back. Max has become a much more likeable character outside of the marriage, and Vanessa seems better suited to him. Fingers crossed they flesh out Stefan Booth's character a bit more!
December 14, 201014 yr Odds on that the topic title will have to be changed to '2009.2010.2011' in the end. It's how long this has been going. Yes indeed Tiffany and Heather being this high is utterly ridicolous, though I do rather love poor Hev myself. Agreed that she & Shirley being split was a hideous decision, the idea of her somehow living with Phil & Shirley amused me greatly but alas. Tanya was one of my favourites to begin with but she's nothing compared to the UTTER AMAZINGNESS that is QUEEN OF WALFORD Vanessa Gold.
December 14, 201014 yr Author Striking whilst the iron's hot... 05 Bianca Butcher 8.69 +++ 11 from Ryan +++ 10 from C.R., Dandy, Gary, FeelTheFever, Jark, James & Theo --- 02 from Mikey (Last year: 13th, 6.71) Like all good soaps, EastEnders has an abundance of strong women. They don't take no shit from any man and they will without thinking twice get their happy slappy on in the middle of a crowded place if their friend, foe or mother dares to cross them. Bianca might be a stereotype in this respect but there's always a motivation behind her actions - when she sinks to a new low it's because she loves her family, wants to provide for her children or has to endure the stress of both working with and being related to Ian Beale. This is probably why she's made it into genuine legend territory, surpassing the likes of Sam Mitchell to whom she once played second fiddle. Her return a few years back could've been a disaster - there were few characters left from her first stint in the show and Walford seemed like it had evolved, become the sort of classier place (relatively speaking) where a brazen chav might stand out for all the wrong reasons. Mercifully the writers had a glorious slow-burn story in place for the freckliest person on television and she wasted no time in winning everybody's hearts all over again. It's fair to say Bianca's had a pretty quite year or so, and with a Christmas week short term departure from the show due it could be a while before she's next at the forefront of the action (even now Tanya 'Our Saviour' Branning is back she's hardly prominent yet), but Patsy Palmer's frankly astonishing turn in the Tony story arc and reveal episode leave no doubt that she's one of EE's most reliable (and frankly underrated) characters. We can only hope she'll be back before we get chance to remember that Ricky is still around, is hopeless, and has in fact not died. 04 Ronnie Mitchell 9.00 +++ 10 from Aaron, Callum, Dandy, Jark, Luke, Mikey, Mikeyjosh & Ryan --- 06 from Aled (Last year: 21st, 6.06) Now characters like Bianca might form the heart of the show but faced with the dilemma of whether to keep her or Veronica I can't imagine getting rid of television's numero uni ice maiden. The tragic Mitchell achieves an almighty climb in this year's rate after spending most of oh nine clashing with her wicked father Archie and scheming to impregnate herself by any means possible (the more immoral the better). It's probably fair to say that it wasn't a vintage year for Ronnie - it was just her bad luck (and our good luck) to have to see her long-lost daughter getting ploughed down by E20's most experienced murderess mere hours after finding out that they were tied by blood, and that Danielle wasn't in fact a crazed stalker (just a really bad actor). And then of course she managed to con Owen into sperminating her only for Archie to barge in and kill the unborn child with nothing more than a flick of the wrist - what are the chances? And then, hardest of all, she had to pretend to be upset when the old man carked it! But like Sharon before her Ronnie charged on, burning down clubs, faithfully sitting by a comatosed Jack's bedside as Scott Maslen showed off his astonishing acting chops, and finally managing to avoid tragedy for all of nine months. Ronnie's life might be a whirlwind of misery but it's wildly entertaining viewing. 03 Jean Slater 9.06 +++ 10 from C.R., Callum, FeelTheFever, Gary, Gooddelta, Jark, Luke, Ryan & Shoat --- 07 from Aled, Dandy & Mikeyjosh (Last year: 05th, 7.53) Could this trio have been any more varied? From ballsy chav to glamorous businesswomen and now onto the people's hero. Jean was only ever intended to be a recurring character but such was her popularity that she was brought in full time - and even now news of her axing brought on such outrage that she was given a reprieve. Jean has always been unstable, prone to periods of intense misery (a perfect fit for EastEnders then) and equally capable of bouncing off the walls until everybody has an almighty headache thanks to her bipolar disorder, but as the character has developed she's become screamingly funny with it, whilst still being one of the most believable people on the Square. Everything she does is for Stacey, who is her whole world (and much as I'm glad Jean's sticking around I still find it difficult to imagine how relevant she could remain without Stacey). I like that the writers play off her unpredictable nature, and how half of the Square think she's a total nut but usually humour her anyway. Perhaps they'll bring in another relation for her to fuss over (Belinda anyone?). Long live Queen Jean.
December 14, 201014 yr Going back a little, but I LOVE Tiffany, that episode where Pat had the heart attack and she started saying ''NANA PAT, WHERE'S NANA PAT'' was amazing, plus she is unimaginably cute. Edited December 14, 201014 yr by Johnkm
December 15, 201014 yr RONNIE! Amazing character, and one of the best actresses this soap has got! I can't believe I didn't give her a 10, but she thoroughly deserves that placing. :) Love Bianca too -- and I agree that the Tony/Whitney storyline highlighted her amazingness. I don't love Jean like everyone else seems to, but I do enjoy some of the scenes she's in.
December 15, 201014 yr Author A few more comments please and then maybe I'll finish this tonight at VERY LONG LAST. Any speculation about who has nabbed the numero uno spot?
