It's about time this came out - I have been looking forward to it for what seems like years

I am delighted it has been recieved so well in the US - the #1 grossing film and the the highest opening weekend for both Scorsese and DiCaprio :o

Many critics have said it is the first commercial thriller Scorsese has done since 'Cape Fear' almost 20 years ago - considering that is one of my all time favourite films - and Scorses is defiantly my third or forth favourite director ever - I am really looking forward to this. I do think he needs to stop using Dicaprio all the time though - he is a great actor but it seems like all of his films in the past decade have had him in the staring role and his next few do as well. The fact Scorsese and De Niro are reuiniting for not one but two films in the next few years is excellent news. :D

ahh yes Cape Fear is excellent  do agree he has been overusing DiCaprio a bit, but it looks like he has done a great job in this, didnt know he was doing some more with De Niro, that shall be awesome.

nothing beats Goodfellas when it comes to Scorsese for me.

Top 5 Scorsese films for me have to be:

1. Raging Bull

2. Taxi Driver

3. Goodfellas

4. Casino

5. Cape Fear/The Departed

Also mentions for 'Mean Streets, The Last Waltz, King Of Comedy, Color Of Money as well as many others - his partnership with De Niro is in my view the greatest ever between an actor and director. B)

This was meant to be released last October, its about time, this looks pretty epic.

Saw the trailer for this at the pictures tonight. Looked ace. And quite creepy.

I shall go see this I think :smoke:

It looks excellent it has to be said, but I do hope that a film-maker with the ability of Scorcese can put a unique or interesting spin on the pretty well-worn idea of weird sh!t going on in a mental asylum... Scorcese is a huge fan of Sam Fuller, so I can only see this film as a kind of homage to Fuller's classic "Shock Corridor"....

I saw this a few days ago and I gotta admit that I really did like it. Good acting, interesting story and most importantly it seemed everyone was talking about the film when they left the theater which doesn't happen that often (except when the movie is really dreadful). We all did about the different aspects of the film afterwards, not gonna say anything more about that thou because this is one of those films that are better when you know as little as possible about it beforehand.

Saw it last night - really enjoyed it. It's hard to discuss it without giving anything away but I was hooked start to finish and DiCaprio gave one of the finest performances of his career by a mile - Ben Kingsly was excellent as well. Some of the critisizims ive heard focus on DiCaprio being mis-cast and the music being too dominant - both ridiculous imo - the music is brilliant and fitted it perfectly especially at the start when they were driving up to the prison. Very 'Cape Fear' in temrs of being OTT but it was perfect. The ending was a bit dissapointing in some ways but it was very well done so it didnt ruin the film by any means. Overall it was a cracking film and really deserves to be the massive hit it has become. 'The Departed' aside, my favourite Scorsese film since Casino.

Shutter Island realy impressed me! I'm a huge fan of thrillers, so I had high expectations, and it certainly met my expectations :) . The storyline kept me gripped throughout the film, and the twist was awesomely done! I didn't actually expect it. Plus it wasn't a sh*t twist either :) .

Can anyone tell me how much this has grossed in the US? And also internationally?

Thanks!

I saw this yesterday with a few mates and i liked the film although i got baffled towards the end but i understood it :P 4 star :D
I just saw Shutter Island this evening, just prior to its American release. I have to say this film was full of intrigue. Prior to viewing this film I had built a preconceived notion of what this thriller was going to be like because I was fooled yet again by good marketing when watching the trailer. This is probably not the movie for your average film-goer who wants an easy plot line to follow and little thought required. This movie does challenge the viewer physchologically and definitely holds your attention all the way through. For someone who was never much of a Leonardo fan, his performance is brilliant, so much range to his character. In fact all of the acting in this film is excellent. The directing is probably the best quality to this film. I always enjoy watching a film that is as unpredicatable as this film and where the director has turned the plot line on to his viewer.

Really enjoyed this. Top film.

I don't really want to say much about it as I don't want to give the plot of the film away, but the flashback scene near the end was jusy WOW in terms on acting. Extremely powerful and moving.
