EXCLUSIVE: Minogue 'mucking around' with new songs

Dannii Minogue has confirmed that she has been in the recording studio working on new material.

The popstar-turned-panellist, who denied earlier today that pregnancy has forced her to quit The X Factor, has been absent from the charts since her 2007 single 'Touch Me Like That' stalled outside the top 40.

"I've actually been in the studio with a few different people recording some tracks," she told Digital Spy. "It was always my wish once I finished X Factor just to have a muck around. I had some songs that I really, really wanted to record."

However, Minogue insisted that the tracks she has been working on are not intended for a particular album or project.

"I'm not saying that anything is going to happen or that there is going to be an album, but I am in the studio mucking around and absolutely loving it," she said.

"It's been a long time and we'll see. The music industry's changed a lot since I was involved in it and it depends on whether I've got the right stuff, the right material."

Minogue has notched up nine UK top ten hits since making her chart debut in 1990. Her most recent studio album, Neon Nights, came out in 2003.

I hope she does release something else. A collaboration with Freemasons would be fantastic.

Yeah even a brand new single would be lovely to get from dannii and see what direction she would go, with the way things are its looking more and more likely that we wont get a brand new studio album from dannii for at least 2 years.

Given that we've waited 7 years now for a proper follow-up to Neon Nights (which is one of the greatest pop albums ever), I doubt we'll actually get a proper album any year soon.

She should seriously give it a go though (on a better record label obvs), with her profile as high as it is now and given they allowed Cheryl to perform her single on X-Factor, I'm sure they could allow her to as well. Heck, it's as good a shot as she's ever gonna have.

I totally agree with you, this is her best chance with gaining success again as she is extremely popular now due to her growing popularity on x factor, she has won style awards etc that she would have never even been nominated for before, id love her to capitalise on her x factor fame and it would be great if she performed on x factor, dont get me wrong i do like cheryl but dannii in my opinion would have a far stronger singing voice.
I think we will never get an album before. Her attitudes towards pop music have changed a lot when The hits and beyond did so badly. :(

Dannii really needs to get off her ass and put something out, her profile has never been higher and the X Factor would be a great launch pad for her to promo the song.

There is an old saying about having to make hay while the sun is shining!

Maybe the utter faliure of Touch Me Like That put her off for good?

Another thing is Dannii needs to ditch All Around the World, they are crap.

Yes they are! Neon Nights showed she can still make good pop/dance songs, but AATW can't even get her name spelled correctly on single covers?! What kind of a pretend label are they?!

Yet they manage to promote Cascade quite well??? Something's going wrong there. -_-

Rumour has it, Dannii is recording her 6th album. i'm guessing Club Disco counts as a studio album then.

With her pregnancy, I will be surprised if Dannii ever finds any time to do any recording.

But if it's true, the baby will become very influenced by disco. :D

Dannii: 'I thought music was over for me'

Dannii Minogue has revealed that she had no plans to return to music following the release of her 2007 single 'Touch Me Like That'.

The star has been concentrating on her TV commitments in recent years after proving a hit on Australia's Got Talent and The X Factor, but she is now working on new material.

Discussing her studio return, Minogue told the Herald Sun: "I've been keeping it quiet as there is no record deal. But yeah, I've done a little bit already over the past couple of months.

"It's all very new. But I have some songs I've co-written and friends have written that ignited my energy to go back to music because I wasn't going to. I was like, 'Nah, music is over for me'.

"But we'll see. I don't want to put any pressure on myself. I've just run into the studio and done a few hours of work. I still haven't got the demos back yet."

In December last year, Minogue released The 1995 Sessions, a collection of previously unheard songs.

I can understand that, in anyone's right mind, you wouldn't return to something that hasn't been so successful before while you're good at doing other things.
So glad that we will get new material from D

We've been hearing about "new music" for some time now, I'm not too sure if I believe it.

Would love to see Dannii having success again but in all fairness it may have passed her by.

If she has the right song and promo then they can grace the top 20 again

Unfortunately I agree to an extent. I was confident she'd bounce back after all those flops in the mid 00's as she'd suffered worse flops in the 90s and came back strong, but she is knocking on a bit now which makes it hard to pull back a music career especially after so long away, and of course she's more famous at the moment for not being a musical artist. However she does have a potential promo slot on X-Factor going for her, she should release at that time and actually take up this opportunity if she's going to go for it!

Id never rule dannii out as she has had flops before and bounced back again, i think dannii has an advantage now as x factor has brought her a whole new audience and if she comes up with the right material she could easily have top 10 hits again.
