July 9, 200619 yr Yeah, I'd certainly rather remember the Zidane of '98 and 2000, incredible; the footballing equivalent of Da Vinci or Mozart..... His skill with a ball was like watching an incredible artist at work.... Magnificent.... That's the Zidane I want to remember... His name translates as 'heavenly one', his football skills most definitely were heavenly..... Yeah absolutely, while I am disappointed in him tonight and the way he behaved it won't change my opinion of his brilliance. He has done things with a ball many of us may never see again so I don't think he should be judged on this in say 10 years time or whatever

I rather think Rooney will have quite a few more 'moments' to come like that in his career, before becoming a pathetic, drunken, wife-beating loser like his spiritual ancestor Paul Gascoigne..... <_< Zidane was an artist, a true footballer, Rooney is merely a thug pretending to be a footballer....
July 9, 200619 yr Really good end to the World Cup in my eyes. An intense, absorbing last half to the match and some truely EXCELLENT penalties. Luca Toni must be one of the happiest men in the world at the moment ^_^ Materazzi had quite a match as well. Firstly he gives away a penalty, then comes inches within scoring an own goal, then scores the equaliser, then gets the French skipper sent off and then scores a penalty. He looked delighted at the end though  Same for Peruzzi. I really don't understand what Zidane was thinking though. I would've thought that surely he's professional enough to keep his cool for the last 11 minutes of his spectaculiar career. Clearly not :( It's a sad way to see a legend go out. I'm just glad Cannavaro went out in style. He's the player of the tournament in my eyes. Great World Cup for me as well. Probably the second best I've ever seen, second only to France '98 :) Yeah, France 98 was amazing. It was all so new and cool. :cheer:
July 9, 200619 yr Well I really don't know what to think after that. France I thought were the slightly better Team overall and could have won it towards the end of normal time. But Zidane?????   His sending off (totally justified) took the shine off things for me. I've never ever seen him react like that. And in his last game? :o And in a world cup final? :o I can't imagine what the Italian player said to him to prompt that reaction! Guess we'll find out soon enough... Well done Italy though. :cheer:

Yeah if Materazzi did make a racist remark or something about Zidane's family or whatever then he should get a lengthy ban from the game, I would be interested to find out what was said but if it was something exceptionally offensive then I hope they throw the book at him I agree about Rooney, I would not be surprised in coming years if he ends up another George Best and/or Gazza
July 9, 200619 yr Yeah, France 98 was amazing. It was all so new and cool. :cheer: Oh I know. It was the first World Cup that I pretty much watched every ball that was kicked. I remember wathcing the Final of '94 when Baggio skied his penalty but that's about it when it comes to my previous recollections of World Cups.
July 9, 200619 yr Am I the only one who thought the world cup was $h!t ? After the group stages the number of half decent games I could count with 2 fingers
July 9, 200619 yr Am I the only one who thought the world cup was $h!t ? After the group stages the number of half decent games I could count with 2 fingers Yeah my dad said the same. But take into consideration that me, David and most of the younger members have only got around 4 or 5 other World Cups to compare it to. If I'd have watched loads of World Cups then in comparison it probably would've been passable.
July 9, 200619 yr Am I the only one who thought the world cup was $h!t ? After the group stages the number of half decent games I could count with 2 fingers I wasn't really impressed to be honest.... Didn't really have the spark of wonder about it that S.K./Japan did in '02 when all these arrogant big-name teams fell like nine-pins to countries like South Korea, Senegal and Japan.....
July 9, 200619 yr I agree Ozzy. I thought it started really well and then fell away a bit. Where were the really classic games? Of course Scotland not qualifying was obviously a factor..... ;)

I had the France 98 game for the PC it was so good  we used to spend hours on it  I need to get another one off eBay as I don't have it anymore!
