'Rude Boy' is only Rihanna's second no. 1 single for me - the other being 'Umbrella' in 2007. I don't know what it is about this track but I really like it. It has an early 90s RnB sound about the track which, for me, is brilliant. Rihanna in general has been hit n' miss with her singles though. Here's a list of Rihanna's singles that made my top 20 (in order of peak):

The video is brilliant. It seems the two most popular artists of 2009 are putting their music to creative uses - both 'Telephone' and 'Imma Be Rocking That Body' have excellent music videos. GaGa just continues to prove why she is so popular all over the world - great music that has crossover appeal and music videos that keep you captivated for more than 1 minute. :lol:

I was surprised to see Caro in your sig. I don't know what it's all about - I think I'll steer clear of BJSC. I much prefer the old CD SWOP and Unknown Pleasures we had on ChC. Interesting to know her album has a couple of decent tracks - her single is holding up really well in Holland. Their singles chart is ridiculously fast. Think the UK singles chart in 2000...only on fast forward. :lol: Yet despite all the odds, 'A Night Like This' has managed to remain inside the top 10 ever since it hit #1 there two months ago.

'Rude Boy' was very close to topping my chart last week but was pipped to the post by Gabriella Cilmi. This week Rihanna takes over with a perfect climb of 03-02-01 :lol: Co-incidentally, 'Umbrella' also climbed to no. 1 charting 16-09-03-01. In fact, all of Rihanna's top 20 hits in my chart climbed to their peaks.

'Telephone' is a great song. It's spent the last two months floating around my Pre-Release Chart as I thought the track would've been released earlier. Clearly the music video has really helped boost sales of the track - a massive climb to no. 1 in the UK charts. Thus becoming the second best no. 1 in the UK so far this year (behind 'Fireflies' and ahead of 'Replay').

'Rock This Body' is indeed a great track. I'm glad this song has performed better in the charts than 'Imma Be' which I think is the weaker of the two tracks. Surprised you don't like the music video. For me, it's like watching nine minutes from a Transformers movie where the members of Black Eyed Peas are co-starring. :D

I regard 'Parachute' as Cheryl's best solo single. It's just a shame she has such average vocals. If a great singer recorded this, it'd probably be higher in my chart. Cheryl's vocals is what lets this song down for me. Still, can't deny it's a decent song.

The biggest faller of the week goes to Steve Aoki down fourteen places to no. 32!!! ;) Keri may be falling but 'I Like' has done incredibly well in my chart. Two weeks at no. 1 back in January but I don't listen to the song as much now as I was eight weeks ago.

 

40 (35) Inna - Hot (08-06-08-16-26-35-40) [7 wks] :nocheer: 5 places down?

 

It is slipping again but it still manages to just hold inside the top 40 for another week although this is likely to be its final week in my chart. Interesting thought; 'Hot' enters at no. 8 in the UK - exact same position as my chart 7 weeks ago. It'll be amusing if Inna ends up having a similar chart run in the UK charts to that of my chart. :D 'Amazing' is now climbing up my Pre-Release chart so that'll be entering my main chart in the next couple of months.

'Rude Boy' is only Rihanna's second no. 1 single for me - the other being 'Umbrella' in 2007. I don't know what it is about this track but I really like it. It has an early 90s RnB sound about the track which, for me, is brilliant. Rihanna in general has been hit n' miss with her singles though. Here's a list of Rihanna's singles that made my top 20 (in order of peak):

The video is brilliant. It seems the two most popular artists of 2009 are putting their music to creative uses - both 'Telephone' and 'Imma Be Rocking That Body' have excellent music videos. GaGa just continues to prove why she is so popular all over the world - great music that has crossover appeal and music videos that keep you captivated for more than 1 minute. :lol:

 

14 (14) Caro Emerald - A Night Like This (14-14) [2 wks] absolutely love this, I downloaded her album and it has 3 or 4 excellent tracks, and then a lot of average ones :lol:

 

I was surprised to see Caro in your sig. I don't know what it's all about - I think I'll steer clear of BJSC. I much prefer the old CD SWOP and Unknown Pleasures we had on ChC. Interesting to know her album has a couple of decent tracks - her single is holding up really well in Holland. Their singles chart is ridiculously fast. Think the UK singles chart in 2000...only on fast forward. :lol: Yet despite all the odds, 'A Night Like This' has managed to remain inside the top 10 ever since it hit #1 there two months ago.

 

29 (--) Lights - Ice (29) [1 wk] This made #8 in my chart last January :lol: nice to see it get a UK release finally!

 

Last Janauary? As in 2009? :o GD once again ahead of the game when it comes to music. :lol: I'd never heard this song until yesterday. It's alright but it's no 'Remedy', 'Bulletproof' and of course any of Lady GaGa's singles.

The others being 'Russian Roulette' and 'Hard' (which I also think is better than 'Russian Roulette'). I guess I just prefer Rihanna doing the party tracks rather than the big ballads.

Or maybe I misunderstood what was happening there. There is a phrase which is "less is more". The BJSC forum looks way too OTT for what it's supposed to be. :unsure:

Sometimes it's not always about the lyrics - it can be just the chorus or the overall sound of the track, or a melody that can really appeal to me. What I like about 'Rude Boy' is its retro early 90s RnB sound. It reminds me tracks like Jade 'Don't Walk Away' from 1993. Remember that? :lol: Yeah, 'Ice' is ok but certainly nothing spectacular. As I posted in reply to GD it's certainly nothing on 'Remedy', 'Bulletproof', etc...

 

Good to see you approve of some of the more radio friendly tracks. :D

Lights has been around for quite a while now. You should check out "Drive My Soul", "February Air" and "Saviour", those are her best singles imo.

1. I wouldn't say Rated R has many ballads on it really. It's more dark R&B, but Russian Roulette is definitely the slowest thing on there.
