Turkey are proper Eurovision-by-numbers on a good year, and pretty dire on a bad year. I loved Deli but I can't stand MaNga at all - it's by far my least favourite of their entries in recent memory (I even liked Athena in 2004 at the time! :puke: And I could tolerate Shake It Up Sekerim). Dum Tek Tek was so generic it killed me, but at least it was an alright song.

 

In fact, 2006 does seem to be the last time they got away from the generic Turkish pop/generic Turkish rock formula...

 

If I had to rate their noughties entries, and I will;

 

Yorgunum Anla - 4/10

Sevgiliye Son - 3/10

Leylaklar Soldu Kalbinde - 4/10

Everyway That I Can - 6/10 - Not a huge fan but it was a marked improvement and I can see why it won

For Real - 5/10

Rimi Rimi Ley - 4/10

Süper Star - 7/10

Shake It Up Şekerim - 5/10

Deli - 7/10

Düm Tek Tek - 7/10

We Could Be The Same - 6/10

 

What an uninspiring set of songs, yet behind Greece, Ukraine and Russia they were probably the most dominant force of the decade :/

and this year maNga are my #2 fave after Feminnem :P pretty much even with Lena actually :)

The only Turkish song of the last decade I've really liked was Super Star. All the other songs have been pretty boring. Every way that I can was alright

best european act at the MTV Euorpe Awards 2009 ;) they have a fan base besides the turks living in Western Europe which is a plus.

I'd be shocked to see them miss the top ten too. I can see it picking up a steady load of 5's and 6's with a few high marks. I'm thinking 9th at worst, 4th at best.

I personaly see them placing around #6 in the final.

I'm starting to think that tyron is overestimating Croatia a bit.....as has been said there is that language barrier (although true that didn't stop molitva but I'd still factor it in just incase)

I can't see Germany finishing outside the top three tbh! Of course I'd be VERY suprised if Azerbaijan don't win it! It would be hilarious if Netherlands managed to qualify for the final though :lol:

I reckon a bad performance for Germany coupled with the fact that it's not exactly the most instantly amazing song, and performing for an autoqualifier (it took about five listens for me to cotton on to its amazingness) means that I can see Germany very easily flopping - but then, they're the only nation I really can't properly call. Anywhere between 1st and 20th beckons!

I'm not that confident about Germany, but I'm going under the assumption from those results that it's an instant, fantastic and personable performance - I still don't see it being enough if Azerbaijan pop up anywhere in the final ten performing slots though!

I think the main power of Drip Drop is in the long version myself...it's that final 30 seconds that make me absolutely love it. The fact that that's gone from the Eurovision version makes it sound a bit ehhh to me tbh. :(

I can really see Romania coming mid-table or lower. Sure it's the most contemporary pop song there but still it's nowhere near the best thing in the competition and the odds for it are and always have been pretty bad. I have an each way bet on it just in case it managed to come 4th but I think 8th is the absolute highest it will go now. It's screaming shock flop to me though (well shock to BuzzJack who seem to love it, not a shock to the bookies :lol:).
