Yeah, I think Mama Do was quite a surprising number-one, and I'm pleased for her success, as I really like Boys and Girls and Gravity.

From what I've observed though, I don't think she's very popular amongst teenagers (especially not boys). My parents and their friends really like her, but nobody talks about her at school.

I don't understand why she's appealing. She's just an ordinary pop blonde girl with an ok-ish voice.

Her music and image is very appealing- a young, pretty girl with a good voice, with a retro sound

she hasnt really done anything that will give any hints of her lasting though eg. a modern classic

I agree with this. She's making nice, pretty, radio-friendly music but even her #1s faded away quickly. She's not making music that's going to be remembered, at least not at the moment.

if I was a female singer, I wouldn't try until GaGa takes a break  because everything seems forgettable comparing to GaGa effort.
I'm glad she's done so well. I knew she had potential from when I first heard of her in mid-2008. Granted I didn't actually expect her to go anywhere () but still, there was something special about her demos - I thought that she could be big with the right promotion/marketing, and indeed she has been!
Moved, I can't see what his has to do with the charts. Pop forum beckons
I like her music. There is a distinct lack of quality pop artists in the arena at present. I didnt think her album had sold as much as 450k yet?

They've actually launched and handled her perfectly (except for the next single choice, the less said the better). It goes to show how something can work well if a record label knows what they're doing with someone and actually puts in the effort.
Her success is a bit bizarre. The songs haven't really been anything special, she can't really sing and she's not even that fit.
I find all her songs totallly forgetable but her album has done alot better than i ever thought it would do, any it will have no problems passing 500,000 uk sales which isnt bad for a debut.
I find her to be very average if I'm honest. I wouldn't turn off the songs if they came on but when you get down to it there's nothing remotely special about them or her. I do find her success in the current climate bizarre though but hats off to her I suppose as she'll probably flop dreadfully with her next album.

she can't really sing? Every performance i've seen of her was great vocally. She has a nice sound.

Baffled me how her first 2 singles got to number #01 theres nothing special about them, Cry Me Out was amazing for a few weeks for me until it got old quickly.
Her singles have gradually gotten better if you ask me. 'Gravity' is by faaar her best imo.
I much prefer Boys & Girls to Mama Do. Gravity is a close third, Cry Me Out a distant fourth. There are still brilliant pop songs left on the album though like Turn It Up (I so NEARLY typed in 'The Fall' yet again :drama:) and Here We Go Again  I think it's a great debut album and I know her success is completely random in 2009/10, she's the sort of act that would have done well ten years ago in this genre, but she definitely has potential for the future too.

Mama Do, Boys and Girls and Gravity are/were popular amongst teenagers, but Cry Me Out was less so.
