Mama Do, Boys and Girls and Gravity are/were popular amongst teenagers, but Cry Me Out was less so.

At my school everyone liked Cry Me Out, it was Mama Do that made us all :puke2:

I find her to be very average if I'm honest. I wouldn't turn off the songs if they came on but when you get down to it there's nothing remotely special about them or her. I do find her success in the current climate bizarre though but hats off to her I suppose as she'll probably flop dreadfully with her next album.

This sums up my feelings on the woman perfectly. She's just very anonymous to me. Of all the many many female popstars out there, I don't get why this one is succeeding over everyone else.

She's the very epitome of record label puppet whose initial success is about as likely to last into a second album campaign as Prince Harry is to ever make King.

I don't know how she can be called a puppet when she's had so much input into the writing of her album and even writes songs for other artists.

One thing the album has shown me is that she's pretty ordinary, I was expecting more but it's basically an album of the first wisely picked four singles and two other tracks, and a bunch of filler. I guess the market craves a simple pop star which can appeal to a lot of people, which I guess she fits into perfectly. I do think she's a great singer vocally though and I also think she shows potential for the future, I just hope her next album capitalises on that and is a bit more solid and cutting edge sounding.

If you dont mind me asking what music do you like I do not think I have ever read anything of yours that has been complimentary about anyone.I think she will be around for a long time she sings uptempo a good mixtre of songs well, can actually sing live and writes songs.

The success is not complicated. She has a fantastic voice, great songs, perfect looks, an endearing personality and a work ethic not demonstrated too much in today's market. She hasn't set the charts truly on fire just yet, because she hasn't found her niche, but is a fine example of a well rounded popstar, hence her success.

I don't mind you asking. My favourite artist currently is probably Gabriella Cilmi and I'm also playing Toni Braxton and Kelis a fair bit. Alicia Keys too.

The reason I don't think she'll last (and the reason, Aly, that I called her a puppet) is the way she's been marketed smacks of the record label trying to make a quick buck off somebody who's viable in the short term. Pixie's appeal is that because she has no style of her own her voice can be lent to anything that's currently 'in', hence the jazzy pop of Mama Do being followed up by the electropop of Boys & Girls with its Gaga-lite-styled video and then the faceless big ballad of Cry Me Out, and then yet another No Air clone. It's whatever sells and whilst this will give her hit singles and a reasonably successful album it also means she has no identity whatsoever as an artist, and singers like that never stick around.

Perhaps she can write but none of these songs have especially good lyrics so I'd say she's competent on that front, rather than brilliant, and I don't agree in any way about her personality. I've always found her to be your typical, slightly spoiled, arrogant stage school graduate. She's not very graceful or interesting and doesn't seem to have much about her. On top of that I'm afraid that from a personal point of view I don't find her voice to be anything special, and on some songs it's notably bad (the vocals on the chorus of Gravity grate on me something special).

AMEN brother. I also found her voice appalling on Cry Me Out, it was so yelpy and forced.

For me, Pixie falls into the same category as Ellie Goulding. A reasonbaly good album which nothing fundamentally wrong with it and plenty of average to brilliant songs on it but she's failed to click as an artist. If Pixie Lott got dropped tomorrow, I doubt anyone would care all that much tbh - shes easily replaceable in that maner.

Mama Do and Boys & Girls got to #1 on quite a lot of luck really since neither sold in fantastic numbers considering their peak.

I think the reason Pixie is doing so well is just because she's ordinary, and kids can just relate to her. The record company's marketing. In her videos, she wears clothes that aren't outrageous but what kids actually wear, for example Converse. I guess that's why she is so anonymous as she's supposed to be ordinary, but at a same time be a model to kids and teenagers. I guess she is a model that parents don't really mind their kids watching.
