The first 3 mins are beautiful and dark. I love the way the song is summery but the video is wintry.

Yes you did. Other posters have noticed too. You immediately went for the poster's favourite artist, because you knew that would get him riled up. Once again, you wouldn't have even considered bringing her up, had he not been in the poster's signature.

You didn't say who your favourite artist is, but the way you shot straight back at the poster (by going at their favourite artist) sort of implied it to me. I'm most likely wrong there, but that's what I assumed from your post.

Erm... no it's not? You went after his favourite artist, because you were annoyed with what the poster said. That was blatantly obvious. You were bashing. And don't make that assumption about me, you have no idea of my musical taste. I like a wide variety of musical genres, thank you very much.

don't turn this into something it's not - and don't imply other 'posters' are involved

I'm not implying, I'm stating, as others commented too... Anyway, I'm moving on.

With regards to this Lady GaGa and Madonna thing, there's no denying that Lady GaGa is better than Madonna is now, but all of what Madonna achieved throughout her career cannot be compared to GaGa, although I think she has the qualities that made Madonna exciting in the early stages of her career and The Fame is roughly what Madonna should have been aiming for with Hard Candy but failed miserably at it.

I think GaGa could well be here to stay for a long time, unless she somehow manages to majorly bugger up on the second album or something but I have faith, if she can keep churning out revolutionary pop songs on the level of quality of 'Poker Face' or 'Bad Romance'.

As I stated before, I used to be a big fan, but I've gone off her completely at the moment. I'm also very big on music in general, so I know a lot about most artists.

They seem obvious to you though, a lot of people don't agree with that, so whilst they seem obvious to you, they seem obviously incorrect to others. You can't pass off your opinions as facts, just because they seem obvious to you, that's not how it works.

No she's not. She's a pop star who is recycling what past artists have done, and bringing it to the present. She is not a musical icon, Lady Gaga herself said that it was crazy that people are calling her that, because she's not. And no, that's not what my post says. They're not trying to do that, they're just trying to do something different to what they may usually do (change their style, like Madonna etc...) and straight away, Gaga's crazy little "monsters" call everyone copycats. This whole Christina Aguilera thing is ludicrous, seeing as a lot of things that Gaga's done looks exactly like what Christina did when she was younger. They appear to be blind to the obvious facts, and it's annoying as hell. She's not changed pop music in any way, it's stayed exactly the same, just with Gaga's music now being the most prominent. She hasn't created a new musical style or anything like that, so she's not changed pop music. At all.

Gaga is blatantly copying Madonna. There's loads of articles going round at the moment, because Madonna is angry about Gaga's "Alejandro" video, with all the things she's done in the video, previously done by Madonna in her other videos. The gun bra for one, stood out for me. It looked like a blatant rip off of Madonna's cone bra, but they're talking more about the religion stuff. There are plenty of articles, sites, with examples of Gaga's copying "inspiration" from Madonna. And like Arrs has just said, Lady Gaga is not unique, everything she is doing has been done before, you just weren't around to see it - nor was I, but I've looked at all the past musical icons.

Yes they do. I know a lot of people who think Lady Gaga is incredibly original, she's created this and that, no-one's been like her before... yadda, yadda, yadda. And it's saddening, because there are much more talented people out there, and in the past, that aren't getting anywhere near as much credit as Lady Gaga is. She's very talented at playing the piano, she's an alright singer, and she's an alright songwriter. I don't like how everyone hails her as the second coming. It's wrong. She's not unique, she's just unusual.

Gaga won't last twenty years, I don't think. The only artists that have lasted for even ten years are either incredibly gifted (vocally), or are able to change their styles to keep them relevant. Gaga is stuck once the electro-pop craze fizzles out. Her crazy outfits won't be cared about anymore, and people will be over her. She's not able to change that much, she's in one box, and she's going to struggle to get out of it.

You have got a bit of a nerve!!!!

For starters you are blatantly inaccurate and inflammatory with regards to Lady GaGa ripping off Christina Aguilera.

Lady GaGa's debut single "Just Dance" was released in the USA in April 2008; and the follow up "Poker Face" was released in the USA in September 2008 a monthly following on from the August 2008 release of her debut album "The Fame". Both singles topped the US Billboard singles charts.

Where as this track was not released until September 2008 (after an exclusive debut performance on the MTV's Video Music Awards where several critics and pundits noticed how she had ripped off visually & musically a certain the hot new Italian-American New York singer/songwriter - and ironically raised the profile of this US artist for the first time to most of Europe where her promo (t)here did not start until January 2009) & the video was not released until late October 2008:

Oh, and of course her new video of "Not Myself Alone" looks nothing like a try to hard attempt at controversy as it has many similarities with Madonna's "Human Nature" & a certain Lady GaGa's "Bad Romance" video. Indeed it has already probably hindered this Bionic album era's success, as the album really is rather good IMHO.

Also you accuse others, yet you are doing EXACTLY the same thing stating that Lady GaGa will not be around in 20 years time. A touch presumptious don't you think? But all that can be validly stated is in commercial, visual & imagery, and impact terms her career has got off to a flier and she could go on to be a major icon, or she could easily burn out and fade away as a one album (& a half) wonder. (At the moment re: the Madonna comparison it would only be valid to compare her up to Madonna's Like A Virgin album/Live Aid performance for now). However, as she has already stated she thinks the song she wrote in Liverpool this year will be her career defining song; and she also stated that she will move away from The Fame Monster sounds (to a more rumoured 1970s/1980s Prog Pop sound ditching the autotune) and imagery in her next album. Plus knowing her stated musical hero is David Bowie, then she will know everything about his constant "ch-ch-ch-changes" of "sound & vision" throughout his career.

But the bottom line is she has got a significant number of critics and old pop stars (David Bowie; Mick Jagger (Rolling Stones); Alice Cooper; Debbie Harry (Blondie); The Who; Peter Gabriel (Genesis); Duran Duran; Boy George (Culture Club); George Michael; Kylie Minogue; Depeche Mode; etc) who admire what she is doing because she is bringing the visual artform back to popular music that has been largely missing since the late 1980s in the ever more formulaic 2000s.

You have got a bit of a nerve!!!!

Past things Christina has done, Gaga has ripped off.

Everybody rips everybody off :P It's a business. If something sells of course everybody else is going to ride the bandwagon. Look at all the Boom Boom Pow clones. :/

At least Christina is not as shameless as the hideous Cascada. Aguilera may have gotten some ideas from Gaga's style but at least her songs aren't carbon copies of Gaga's hits.

TBH I think Christina's issue is the fact that her music has decreased in quality. She's not a headline grabber like Britney or Gaga, plus the fact she takes so damn long to release albums and then of course the single choices from her greatest hits and the lead track from Bionic have been nothing short of horrendous. It's a shame as Bionic is a fabulous album and far superior to Back To Basics. However, the fact the lead single is damn right awful and sounds like it should've been a Britney Spears album track from 2006 is why I think the project has gotten off to a rather slow start. It has nothing to do with Gaga whatsoever.

That said I think Alejandro would easily be top 10 by now if it weren't for the football songs. I hope they don't hinder it's chances of doing so...

Can't you read?

Or don't you understand chronology?

I just don't read your posts, they're far too long-winded. I don't care about what Christina is doing now. A lot of things that Christina did in the Stripped era, Gaga has ripped off. I'm not continuing this discussion.

Maybe we should all just focus on the song in question (ALEJANDRO in case you've forgotten after reading the last few pages) and where it will eventually peak instead of dithering on about who copied who & who will last longer than who &... Etc Etc

Love Madonna, Love GaGa, Love Xtina, Love Kylie - Makes no difference to me whether one makes a reference to another as long as all 4 continue to make (maybe not so much madonna nowadays) great music & videos :magic: :funky:

Well maybe you should try backing up your allegations with facts as otherwise you look just plain stupid. :P

No, because I can't find all the reams of information I was reading a while ago. And I don't have to back anything up to you, as I couldn't care less of your opinion on me. Continue thinking I'm stupid. Because I couldn't give a crap.

Good. Read his posts then, and not mine. Problem solved.

The Alejandro Video is getting its UK TV premiere at 12.20am on The Box. So, in around 20 minutes :)

Oh I do - the problem is, yours always seem to crop up in the middle of interesting threads... like dog$h!t on a very nice country path...

It's a real shame really, because, as I said before, I always read these threads to keep up to date and MrLovett has always been a member who I have always admired and respected. But being so quick to target others who are merely implying that their opinions are obvious, while making bold statements such as 'Lady GaGa will burn out soon and flop' is nothing short of hypocrisy. I am sure my opinion does not matter to him, I would just like to mention that a bit of openmindedness goes a long way. But whatever. Will Lady GaGa burn out? Gee, I really couldn't say. Just wait here a wee second while I go look in my f**king crystal ball. If you find someone who can predict the future, good on you. But I'm sure Madonna faced the same criticisms in her early days and proved them wrong. Why can't GaGa? Also, I have to add that I read and really appreciated the detail and information in thisispop's post. That's the foundation of an intelligent and mature debate.

Gaga is good. Musically she's decent, even if a little trashy at times - Boys Boys Boys. Visually she's a treat - even if she is ripping off Madonna, it's time someone did it properly. Given time she will grow up a bit and realise that she can be her own person and not look to her idols for inspiration.

I look forward to her career with more interest than I have done so with most pop artists.

I would like to apologise to all posters that I have offended and annoyed in this thread, I was completely out of line and I shouldn't have said the things that I said. I was a bit upset yesterday, and took it out on some posters on here. It's no excuse, but I do hope everyone accepts my apology. Thank you.
