Madonna Launching Material Girl Beauty

 

Madonna's Material Girl is launching a beauty collection.

The fashion label - which the singer designs with her 14-year-old daughter Lourdes - will expand to include a range of nail polish, lipgloss, body sprays and lotions in Macy's New York next month with eye-shadows following in September and Lourdes loves choosing her favourite products.

 

She explained to WWD: "It was so much fun getting to pick all of my favourite scents for the Material Girl body products and lip glosses. The body products have fun names like Wicked Watermelon, Flirty Fruit, Midnight Magnolia and Sinful Sugar. I chose scents that I loved."

 

Lanie List, chief merchandising officer at Iconix Brand Group - who have partnered with Material Girl on the collection - revealed Lourdes has a "very sophisticated eye" but all choices have to be approved by her mother.

She said: "Lola is 14 but she lives in New York City and has a very famous mom, so she has a very sophisticated eye. Lola is here once a month and sometimes more. She brings stuff from her own closet for inspiration. For the bath and body products she probably had 100 scents in front of her. She has a very mature approach to product development.

 

"Madonna definitely has creative input also. It's a collaboration between the two. If Lola goes to a place with an idea that Madonna doesn't think is appropriate for the brand, she'll veto it. She's a branding expert."

Teens everywhere have been amping up their wardrobes with eclectic pieces from Madonna and daughter Lourdes’s juniors clothing line, Material Girl. And now, the mother-daughter team is building up the brand to include beauty products, intimates and sleepwear, plus outerwear, party dresses and an expanded denim line.

First up are intimates and sleepwear, which debut in stores this month and will include everything from solid and polka-dot push-up bras to bustiers, sweatpants and even girly boxers.

Next will come beauty products, including nail polish, lip glosses, body sprays and lotions, all hitting stores on Aug. 15, with eye palettes launching on Sept. 15.

After girls everywhere start smacking their lips with the new glosses, they can stock up on fall fashions like studded and acid-wash skinny jeans, outerwear like cape coats and bomber jackets, and a collection of sequin-covered, feather-accessorized dresses, also coming to stores in fall.

''Working with Madonna is intimidating''

 

Kelly Osbourne has said that working with Madonna is one of the "coolest things" she has ever done, but admitted that it is also "intimidating" to be around someone she admires so much.

 

The face of Madonna and daughter Lourdes's 'Material Girl' fashion line since earlier this year told Jay Leno on The Tonight Show: "I met Lourdes about two years ago and when they were asking for a new Material Girl they asked if I'd be interested. Before they even finished the sentence I said, 'Yes! That's the coolest thing ever!'

 

"But it's also very intimidating to work with somebody who is, in my eyes, the best of the best. To walk in the room and not be a complete nerd and fanning out. I sit there with a sweaty top lip having a panic attack the whole time like, 'Oh my God, when will this be over?!' Dabbing my lip because I'm so nervous!"

 

The 26-year-old previously showed her admiration for Madonna by covering the star's 'Papa Don't Preach' track on her debut album Shut Up.

 

Osbourne, who also appears on Fashion Police, added to Leno that she has become great friends with Lourdes through their work together, describing the teenager as "unbelievably intelligent and smart".

Lourdes Talk To Teen Vogue

Lourdes “Lola” Leon may be only fourteen years old, but she’s clearly inherited the charismatic spark and business savvy of her superstar mom. One year after Madonna and Lola launched their Material Girl fashion line at Macy’s, the power duo have now set their sights on beauty—a natural next step, according to the budding teen entrepreneur.

 

“I love everything that has to do with beauty! It’s always fun to get made up for a party, and it makes you feel good,” she says. But developing the extensive collection of body care products in particular came with unexpected challenges. “I had to smell hundreds and hundreds of different scents while smelling coffee beans in between. I had such massive headaches afterwards!” she reveals.

 

All that hard work—and sniffing—has paid off in an edited selection of six superyummy scents, like Viva Vanilla and Wicked Watermelon (Lola’s personal faves). An amazing array of lip glosses and nail polishes round out the beauty lineup, which launches next week at Macy’s, and prices range from just $7 to $12! Material Girl coming to the UK in September

British shoppers will be able to buy clothes from Madonnas fashion range Material Girl for the first time from September.

German shopping group Otto has snapped up the exclusive European rights to the Material Girl range and plans to make its autumn collection available to shoppers in Britain and the continent through its online fashion stores.

The line is already available in German stores and online at otto.de.

 

The collection of tops, jackets, skirts and jeans, are designed to have a rock edge and are aimed at 16- to 24-year-olds. Prices for pieces range from £15 to £100. Georgia May Jagger, the daughter of Rolling Stones frontman Sir Mick Jagger, seen with Madonna and Lourdes, above, is also being used to promote the range internationally.

 

Oliver Klinck, Otto vice president for ladieswear and menswear, said: "Madonna and her daughter have created a fresh and fashionable collection. We are excited to be offering Material Girl exclusively."
