April 1, 201015 yr Oh dear. Even though I'm a big fan of the show, I'm expecting we'll get a new number 1 every week from October to December. :(
April 1, 201015 yr I know it's an April Fool's joke but I actually am suprised they haven't already tried to do this. It's easy money, surely?
April 1, 201015 yr I know it's an April Fool's joke but I actually am suprised they haven't already tried to do this. It's easy money, surely? Not too sure about it really being a joke. It has already happened in Swedens "Idol" season last year and in Germany they did the same at the last "Popstars" season. But the effects on the chart and the sales were not as big as you might have expected. In fact the original versions of the songs had more success than the short versions from the Tv shows. I mean 99p for a 1.30min track by an amateur singer is in fact quite expensive.
April 1, 201015 yr I read the article and sighed. Scrolled down and saw "April Fools Day" and thought ...doh. From a businessmans point of view, it's a brilliant idea getting the contestants to release their singles each week. From a music lover's point of view (even one who likes The X Factor from a TV show perspective) it's vomit inducing. :( Just imagine if this had happened last year; Jedward's tone dead "tones" butchering tracks like 'Ghostbusters', Daniel Johnson murdering 'I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing', Lloyd's below par 'I Kissed A Girl' and the Scottish lad's helium 'Respect' (urgh!!!) making the UK charts would make our charts embarrassing - moreso than ever. If we actually had an X Final where all 12 finalists were excellent, gave strong performances and literally nobody could predict the outcome of the results then to an extent I wouldn't have a problem. If we're gonna have non-contestants like Jedward, Daniel Johnson, Lloyd and Scottish boy making the live finals then it's not a good idea by any stretch of the imagination. Still, like others have posted I'm surprised Simon hasn't already done this.
April 1, 201015 yr If this is an April Fools joke, which i hope it is. Lets just hope Mr Cowell doesnt get wind of this, you may just have given him a good idea
April 1, 201015 yr It depends on if there is a really exceptional vocal talent (like Leona and Alex) this year. Then it'd be amazing. If XF2010 is full of novelty such as Jedward 2.0 then not so much. Simon really is Simon Fuller's shadow. Always trailing behind doing the exact same things.
April 1, 201015 yr If this did become true, I think the singles chart in the UK would die, and anyone wanting to get into the industry or wanting a break would probably have the backing of their record industry and you would see a "rebel" chart set up.
April 1, 201015 yr if it isn't an april fools joke, surely the winners single wont sell half as many copies as it does now. it's all about building up to that 1 single but if people can buy a load of songs from the finalists each week then it's less of a big thing..
April 1, 201015 yr I wonder if the bottom two performances would also be released to iTunes? The irony of "bottom two" was that this is where Ruth Lorenza made a name for herself. Dannii clearly didn't know what to do with her and gave her pointless song choices yet in the bottom two, with her own personal song choices, Ruth blew everyone out of the water. Even my dad said Ruth Lorenza should've won The X Factor 2008. http://images.mirror.co.uk/upl/m4/dec2008/1/6/44AFE150-F940-E3B6-4005FD2C038B1A3C.jpg <--- for two reasons  Edited April 1, 201015 yr by Hitstastic
April 1, 201015 yr Really do not see the problem. I've downloaded MP3 files of X-Factor performances before. American Idol does the same thing. ... Simon Cowell is a buisnessman. Things like this, it's his job!

April 1, 201015 yr Author In case you have not gathered it is an April Fools Joke. However, as others have said (the reason I put this piece together is that) I can see Simon Cowell pulling this stunt off in the future. Ironically, as a previously April Fools joke I wrote a mock US music magazine review of the then mythical long awaited Guns N'Roses album Chinese Democracy. A year and a half later it actually became real. So if this joke becomes reality in the last few months of 2011 (Series 8 of X-Factor) you know who to blame. :D
April 1, 201015 yr LOL. I wouldn't worry too much. American Idol do the same thing, but they don't dominate iTunes half as much as people think... Well... I'm not sure actually. Are we really that different and they'd be successful? I'm happy either way. If only they did this for 2008! I'd be loving Diana's performances even more  With AI they were free, so ineligible to chart iirc.
April 1, 201015 yr Thank GOD it's a joke. Although I really wouldn't be that surprised if it does happen ... :(
April 1, 201015 yr I must admit the whole story is believable, I do wonder if Simon Cowell has scanned thru Buzzjack today and saw this article and he is planning to use this idea come later in the year. If he does we know who to blame :magic:
April 1, 201015 yr Thank GOD it's a joke. Although I really wouldn't be that surprised if it does happen ... :( Me neither. Cowell has to get his ideas from somewhere as he's never had any of his own.
April 1, 201015 yr ID say simpn wont allow it as if that did happen the public would know who was most popular each week, the chart positions would give it away.
April 1, 201015 yr Me neither. Cowell has to get his ideas from somewhere as he's never had any of his own. During last years Xtra Factor, a caller rang in and said that the mentors should have one act from each category rather than mentoring one group category. They all looked at each other and Simon said "that's actually a really good idea". Next thing, I read that The X Factor was "changing to keep the show fresh" by having each judge mentoring one act from each category. If I was that woman, I'd be sueing. Edited April 1, 201015 yr by Hitstastic
April 1, 201015 yr Something that was also suggested, I think, was a fifth judge, so a fifth category could be a novelty category, for people like Jedward
April 1, 201015 yr Something that was also suggested, I think, was a fifth judge, so a fifth category could be a novelty category, for people like Jedward  TV shows have taken "judges" to the extremes. It's bad enough we have to endure Louis bloody Walsh. You have Alesha Dixon on Strictly; "you were ok but it looked a bit clumsy at times" - then she gives a 9 to the others 5 for example. -_- You have Emma Bunton on Dancing On Ice; why? When has Emma ever danced on ice? You had Geri Halliwell on Popstar - The Rivals; "your singing was out of tune". Pot. Kettle. Black, no? :D You have Kelly Brook on Britain's Got Talent; ......erm....what? :P TV producers will do anything to draw in the viewers. I'd rather have a genuine judging panal who really know what they're talking about. Sadly they're unavailable (or don't exsist). Edited April 1, 201015 yr by Hitstastic
