I think there’s a 2 year anniversary vinyl that shipped on August 7th

First time hearing it. Why is she singing like that??

I’m leaning towards a new release too but unsure of who and what. There is nothing on the release schedule that seems to shout number 1 contender, and I’m not sure what we are still expecting this year. I presume Taylor Swift will have an anniversary edition of her debut album out before the end of the year which could throw up something, but other than that I’m curious who else is likely to release that could garner enough streams to break this Olivia Dean domination at the top of the Spotify charts.

Assuming today’s chart goes as the midweeks indicated, Rein Me In looks set yet again to be back at 0 weeks of streaming decline, whilst scoring its 20th non-consecutive week at the top of the charts There have been several singles over the past few weeks that I had considered could potentially overtake Sam Fender to be the next new number one (Dai Dai, Wonderwall, Stupid Song). I also thought a new track from Ariana’s album might do it. But with all of these so far falling short, I’m curious what will be next There’s nothing obvious on the release schedule and nothing that seems to be an obvious contender on the charts currently

Definitely a flaw in the system, rather than fraudulent. I’m still amazed they haven’t found a better way of dealing with Thursday streams by now

17k vs 10k is a decent start but don’t think it will hold. I imagine 5k of that is preorders for the physicals. However, I always said that the week after the Christmas chart will be when Kylie gets number 1. Amazon will report their Christmas Day (Thursday) streams on time whilst Spotify and Apple Music will have Christmas Day streams estimated which won’t take in into consideration the massive boost in streams that day

I wonder what the Amazon Christmas song will be this year. I’m curious if it might go to number 1 on Boxing Day (week after Christmas number 1) due to the delay in other streaming services reporting Thursday streaming data from Christmas Day.

Yes they did get reset but I wonder if a manual reset could happen or if TikTok clips of the show will thrust a new favourite out there that could get reset I definitely think their streams will surge when it starts wb4.7 abd in particular on the weeks following when they are doing many dates throughout Manchester and London

There was a time that people said YouTube is very different platform than iTunes too but eventually it became almost difficult to ignore I’m not saying that TikTok should be included yet but if the charts are designed to reflect the popular songs of the moment, regardless of how they are consumed or how much money was used to consume it, then I don’t think it’s unreasonable to think that there could a time and place when TikTok is incorporated some how What happened to the idea of a TikTok music streaming service? With regards to music videos, if they are becoming too expensive to make traditionally, I’d much rather have a live performance style video than just a lyric video. Something like When We Were Young by Adele for example

Good For You was her 4th chart hit and didn’t debut at number 1. Her first chart hit All I Want reached the top 100 in 2020 before Drivers License debuted at number 1 in 2021. There is an argument for Olivia Rodrigo counting for this achievement though as this was her first proper single, whereas All I Want was from the soundtrack of High School Musical

Artists debuting at number 1 with their first ever single in the UK charts became quite common in the late 1990s to early 2010s (eg Westlife, Britney, most X Factor/Popstars/Pop Idol winners, Olly Murs, One Direction, Tinie Tempah, The Wanted, B-Witched, Billie Piper etc) However, with singles no longer being held back during promotion, streaming overtaking sales and songs growing in popularity over time due to TikTok exposure, this has now become a rare occurrence In the 2020s so far, I think it’s only Sir Tom Moore who can claim that (unless I’m mistaken) and before that, you’d have to go as far back as Ladbaby’s first hit. Many popular artists nowadays build up their following over time with quieter releases rather than coming strong out the gate. Even group stars going solo (like Zayn and Harry) seems unlikely in the future too as there are far fewer groups and bands in the charts too Any thoughts?

I’d agree it’s early days but it’s easy to see why people might think she’s a one hit wonder following the likes of Kenya Grace, Gayle etc. Although maybe they might surprise in the future too? Whether she’s technically had another charting song or not, IF Lola doesn’t have another song that charts well, I’d say calling her a one hit wonder is fair currently. A bit like Cat Burns. Go was a massive hit and she may have had other songs that charted but the vast majority would only know that one hit One Hit Wonders of the 90s and 2000s for example would include Cornershop, Sam Sparro, Afroman, Olive. They all had other songs that charted but they are only well known for that one song.

If I remember correctly I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker, Since U Been Gone and Waka Waka (This Time For Africa) were all snubbed at the time of release, even though it could be argued there is a Radio 1 audience appeal for these songs. I think Now You’re Gone by Basshunter too, at least initially
