Madonna was the most-played artist in the UK during the last decade.

The singer topped the People's Artist Chart, a poll compiled by PPL for BBC Radio 2.

The run-down - which was compiled using data from broadcast airplay and public performance in pubs, clubs, restaurants and other businesses - was revealed on the station this afternoon (April 5).

The Beatles came in at Number Two in the chart, while the Sugababes were the only group in the chart who emerged during the last decade.

The Top Ten of the People's Artist Chart was:

1. Madonna

2. The Beatles

3. Robbie Williams

4. Queen

5. Take That

Madonna 'most played' artist of decade

Madonna was the only female solo singer to make the top 10

Madonna was the most played artist of the last decade in the UK, according to music licensing body PPL.

The singer, 51, who had her first UK hit with Holiday in 1984, beat The Beatles into second place and Robbie Williams into third.

Queen were fourth and Take That were fifth in the chart compiled for BBC Radio 2.

It was based on plays - between 2000 and 2009 - on TV, radio and in public places including pubs, clubs and shops.

PPL collects royalties for sound recordings.

Girl band Sugababes, meanwhile, who entered the UK charts for the first time in 2000 with Overload, were the only act in the top 10 who emerged within the decade being scrutinised.

The chart was revealed on Radio 2 show People's Artist Chart, presented by comedian Patrick Kielty.

In December, PPL announced that Snow Patrol song Chasing Cars was the most widely-played song of the decade.

Last year, another chart compiled for Radio 2 - also by PPL - found that Procol Harum's A Whiter Shade of Pale was the most played song in public places in the previous 75 years.

The song, which features a distinctive organ riff, stayed at number one for six weeks in the UK in the summer of 1967.

No Slane concert this year, Mountcharles confirms

Slane village will be a much quieter place than usual on one day this summer after the weekend announcement that there would be no Slane music concert this year.

Castle owner Henry Mountcharles dropped the bombshell on the Marian Finucane Show on RTE radio on Saturday. "If everything had fallen into place, I would have had a concert this year because I think people in this country really need a lift but things didn't feel right. I am very sorry but that is the decision that has been made," he said.

However, Lord Mountcharles said he was confident that there would be a concert next year, the 30th anniversary of the first Slane concert.

He had already marked out 28th August as the date for this year's concert but had "reluctantly" decided that it would not now take place.

Among the acts at the centre of speculation were Kings of Leon and AC/DC.

He said that he had taken heed of a 12,700-strong Facebook campaign in favour of Kings of Leon as possible headliners for the show. "I have paid attention to that and I am still paying attention to that," he said, hinting that they are among the acts being considered for next year, the year in which he will also celebrate his 60th birthday.

The concert promoter revealed that, at one stage he had been offered Bon Jovi, but turned them down because on this particular year, he did not feel it was right.

Thin Lizzy appeared at the first concert in 1981 and, since then, Slane has attracted acts like The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Robbie Williams, Bruce Springsteen, Queen, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and last year's headliners, Oasis. In 2001, U2 returned to Slane to head up two concerts to mark the 20th anniversary of concerts at Slane Castle.

The Meath Chronicle

I don't get the shock about no Slane for some people in Ireland - afterall it has only taken place twice (07 and 09) in the past six years. There are strong rumours that U2 will be having another Homecoming gig there next year to finish off the 360 Tour. With next year being the 30th Anniversary I think U2 would be perfect - if not them than Bruce or Rob would suit me fine. I wouldnt bother going for anyone else. Too much hassel.

Robbie Williams stars in Nikon European ad campaign

LONDON - Nikon is launching a pan-European multimedia advertising campaign featuring Robbie Williams, designed to inspire budding photographers to use its Nikon CoolPix digital

Using the strapline, 'I am Nikon,' the campaign plays on Nikon's existing strategy theme of being 'At the heart of the image' and will take a behind-the-scenes look at what the statement means to budding photographers.

It will run throughout Europe and South Africa, with the first TV ad airing in the UK over Easter weekend on ITV, Channel Four and Five.

Created by Jung von Matt/Spree, the campaign also includes print, outdoor and online, with all activity supported by digital marketing driving people to a dedicated website.

Social media channels will also be used in an attempt to engage consumers.

TV executions will feature footage of Robbie Williams turning his camera on the crowd at a concert, as a well as footage showing holidaymakers exploring the Egyptian pyramids under the tagline, 'I Am Here'.

Birgitta Olson, general manager of marketing at Nikon Europe, said: "We hope this campaign will help to extend the legacy of the Nikon brand to a wider European audience.

"By reminding our customers that they too are at the heart of the image, we hope to ignite a new understanding of photography, one where anyone can express themselves, regardless of their photography experience."

Gary Barlow: It's inevitable that Robbie Williams will rejoin Take That at some point

Apr 16 2010

TAKE THAT singer Gary Barlow reckons it is "inevitable" Robbie Williams would perform with the group again.

Barlow made the comment during an appearance alongside David Cameron at an event this morning where he backed the Tories.

Williams left Take That in 1995 but speculation has been rife that they will work together once more. Williams has already said in a Radio 2 interview he and the group have been in the studio together, although it is unclear whether anything from the session will see the light of day. And they shared a stage at a Children In Need concert late last year.

But speaking to pupils at Brine Leas High School, in Nantwich, Cheshire, today Barlow suggested he foresaw a reunion.

Asked whether they would work with Williams, he said: "We'll see. I think it's inevitable one day we'll get back together."

Barlow was launching an X Factor-style singing competition for pupils, School Stars.

I remember in the 1980s when Duran Duran started endorsing Maggie. I couldn't listen to their records for years! :D :P :D

No. I don't.

Are you surprised though? GB always struck me as being a dyed in the wool Tory. :P

Simon Cowell overtakes the Beckhams in rich list of British music millionaires

Apr 23 2010

BRITAIN'S Got Talent judge Simon Cowell saw his fortune rise by more than £40million - leapfrogging the Beckhams, a new rich list reveals.

Cowell, who rakes in masses from his TV shows and the acts he signed via the X Factor, is now estimated to be worth £165million.

Big successes in the past year included BGT star Susan Boyle, who became a worldwide hit.

David and Victoria Beckham are now reckoned to be worth £145million, according to the Sunday Times Rich List 2010 to be published this weekend.

Cowell is now ranked 11th in the list of top music millionaires, up from last year's 15 thanks to a 38 per cent rise in his assets.

The Beckhams saw their fortune swell by £20million, helped by Victoria's success as a fashion designer and her husband's sponsorship deals, although they remain in 14th spot.

Cowell still has a long way to catch up with fellow music and media mogul Simon Fuller - who guided the Beckhams' careers - who launched another new company XIX in recent months. He is valued at £350million, up £50million in a year, and ranked sixth.

Impresario Sir Cameron Mackintosh saw the most dramatic rise in the music millionaire list, shooting up £285million in the past 12 months, although this is largely due to a major revaluation of his business assets.

These include licensing, performance rights and a London theatre chain.

His friend Lord Lloyd-Webber is ranked one place higher at number three. The composer and theatre boss was actually pushed from last year's number two spot and his wealth slipped by £50million to £700 million, according to compilers of the list.

Topping this year's table is music boss Edgar Bronfman who is a new entry in the list of Britain's music millionaires on account of his relocation to London from New York.

The chairman and chief executive of the Warner Music Group is estimated to be worth £1.6billion. His fortune is partly based on his family's past ownership of the Seagram drinks empire.

Bronfman - whose London move was to help his children experience life abroad - is ranked 25th overall in the list of the 1000 richest people in Britain.

Another label boss Clive Calder - former owner of Zomba Records - is in second position after being toppled from last year's top spot.

Robbie Williams is at number 26 with £85million, while his former Take That bandmate Gary Barlow is at 48 with £35million.

I found this story here

http://progress-index.com/news/turtles-tur...e-menu-1.741141

'Thanks to Robbie Williams for the eight nice catfish he brought me last Wednesday. I've got them in the freezer for hard times. Everyone of them was around 3 pounds, that is a good size. You just cook the whole fish and you don't have to filet it. Robbie is one good fisherman and seldom comes home with his fish bucket empty.'

He's very talented is our boy.
