May 5, 201015 yr Author Was Shame On You for charity? I hadn't realised. Perhaps "twee" wasn't the right word for Say - "cheesy" works better. It's just nauseating. "Say, say, say, say that he needs me" complete with cheap-sounding bell noises - it all sounded very MOR girlband.
May 5, 201015 yr Give Me A Reason is oddly appealing, must be the subtle dance beat. I do prefer Irresistible by far though, so underrated in the charts.
May 5, 201015 yr I like the verses on Irresistable much more than the chorus. That's the case with a lot of the songs on In Blue actually. There were a lot of quite menacing or bleak verses which gave way into bright and cheesy choruses. Might've been nice if they'd had the conviction to keep the odd one as a pulsating, dark song with no radio-tailored chorus.
May 5, 201015 yr Author 15. Irresistible [#20 in the UK charts, 2000] (Average score: 6.00) z4ki1_TEwsw To me, when this barely limped into the top 20, only to disappear from the top 40 completely 7 days later, that was when The Corrs bubble burst. Certainly commercially, it was all but over for them. Irresistible isn't a BAD song, but it was just FAR too similar to Breathless. Breathless was popular sure, but at the same time I don't think anyone was REALLY clamouring for a clone only a few months later. It really was a poor single choice, and Shania's husband was clearly running low on ideas.

Oddly enough, the one song where the chorus matched the verses was Rain, and that's generally seen as one of the weakest efforts on the album! I get your point though, there were quite a few songs where they couldn't help but burst into sprightly Radio 2 summer-pop mode, even when the song REALLY wasn't calling for it. Irresistible was one, Give It All Up another.

I was devestated when it limped in at #20, I had been expecting #5 or so for it if I recall correctly :o But yes, they should have gone with something that sounded completely different to Breathless as opposed to almost the same. I can't imagine it managed to shift many more units of the album to people who hadn't been won over by Breathless.
May 6, 201015 yr Author I can't imagine it managed to shift many more units of the album to people who hadn't been won over by Breathless. I don't think it did much for the album no. I might be remembering completely wrong, but I'm pretty sure Give Me A Reason gave the album a bigger boost even though it was a bigger flop on the singles chart.
May 7, 201015 yr The full chart run for In Blue; http://www.chartstats.com/albuminfo.php?id=5810 I can only imagine the October hike back to 12 was thanks to Irresistible (so it did help the album) and indeed on the Give Me A Reason release week it had a MAJOR spike 53-13 so Give Me A Reason certainly did its job! My favourite album chart of all time by the way; http://www.chartstats.com/album_chart.php?week=19990410 Sorry Britney, your time will come :smoke: My god at Talk On Corners getting 56 weeks in the top ten :o

I remember that week with the top 2 albums. Utterly marvellous - has any other act done that?

I remember that week with the top 2 albums. Utterly marvellous - has any other act done that? You could be right. It wasn't until 2004 that I got round to buying the special edition. The new/leftover tracks were pleasant but hardly life changing. I'm not sure actually, maybe Madonna or The Beatles? I love that The Corrs are uttered in the same breath as these acts  I actually remember listening to that chart at the time thinking that Talk On Corners would be either #1 or #2 and hoping that Forgiven Not Forgotten would be top 5 too. I was shocked when I heard they were #1 and #2, and I remember them having Andrea on the phone to congratulate her!

Flop fan I know, but I absolutely refuse to pay for a Limited edition of an album I already own. I find it utterly disrespectful. I may download "Love In The Milky Way" though.

Looking Through The Eyes Of Love was the other bonus track, it's even more MOR than they usually are but pleasant. Neither song would have fit on In Blue though so I can see why they weren't originally included.
May 8, 201015 yr Author 14. Long Night [#31 in the UK charts, 2004] (Average score: 6.13) AUNy7QXjong At this point, we'd been LONG overdue a good Corrs ballad single, the last one being 1999's remix of Runaway. This disappointed in terms of chart position, but The Corrs were old news by this point anyway. It didn't disappoint quality-wise though. Although I maintain Angel is the better Borrowed Heaven single, this is a lovely and epic-sounding, and deserved much better. This was also The Corrs last ever appearance in the top 40 as a group :(

May 8, 201015 yr Angel is my favourite BH single too but Long Night comes very close. Utterly beautiful, from that violin solo to Andrea's wonderful vocal performance. She sounds so immensely sad on the line 'you never were around with much to speak of'.
May 8, 201015 yr Long Night is gorgeous indeed, but I too preferred Angel, and actually Summer Sunshine too (and Baby Be Brave ).
May 8, 201015 yr Time has proven Summer Sunshine to be a little too throwaway to really fit on what's otherwise a very intimate album I think. I like it an awful lot but it does kind of scream 'last song recorded because the album had no obvious lead single'.
May 9, 201015 yr Author 13. Forgiven Not Forgotten [#155 in the UK charts, 1996] (Average score: 6.25) 01mDVRSXY_w This is still too low for my liking, but has done pretty well for a track which never even made the top 150. In fact this is the highest placed of the Corrs tracks not to have made the top 40. Gloriously dark and brooding, this is what The Corrs sounded like when they were actually putting thought into things and not just churning out lazy bits of pop fluff. If the Corrs ever return, I demand a return to this sound!
May 9, 201015 yr Author It did suffer from a few ???s Take those out and it's average mark would have been enough for #4! EDIT: Actually no it wouldn't, if you also took out the ???s for ALL the songs. It would still only be #12 :( I'll post the alternative version after this - there's quite a few differences!
