Certainly Steve McFadden, Adam Woodyatt, Jake Wood, Nitin Ganatra, and even on a good day Perry Fenwick, are all above Maslen in the acting stakes.

Okay I think Perry Fenwick is a step too far. I don't even think Scott is that bad, especially some of his angrier scenes in his hospital. Certainly I never watch him and think christ, he's not good, the way I do with Leon or Danny.

I don't think Fenwick is that bad though! Sometimes when he's getting soppy you really feel sorry for him!

EastEnders bosses have cast a daughter for feisty Albert Square newcomer Vanessa Gold.

Actress Kylie Babbington joins the Walford soap as Jodie Gold around the same time as her mother, played by Zoe Lucker.

Jodie first appears in the fictional London district in search of her mum and her arrival doesn't go unnoticed by Darren Miller (Charlie G. Hawkins), who takes an immediate shine to her.

With a big heart, an infectious smile and a personality to match, Darren falls head-over-heels in love and quickly begins wooing her with the Miller charm.

Executive producer Bryan Kirkwood exclusively told Digital Spy: "I'm really excited about Kylie taking on the role of Vanessa. She brings yet more fresh energy to the show - she's a ray of sunshine."

The love of Darren's life Libby Fox (Belinda Owusu) rapidly ended their long-term romance upon learning of his one-night stand with Heather Trott (Cheryl Fergison) - and their son George Michael.

Mother and daughter duo Jodie and Vanessa make their first appearance in Walford next month.

Didn't realise their arrival was next month - something to look forward too!

As if Darren would get this lucky...

I think there are soe real exciting times ahead, we have some nice storylines coming up, mixed with alot of exit storylines and a few new introductions aswell. I cant wait for the Lucas storyline to get going as i think its gona be great.
Yes, Darren's done well for himself there hasn't he? Looking forward to her arrival and seeing how she'll interract with Vanessa.

I do love Tamar!

Some good news - Tameka Empson is returning! :cheer:

Actress and comedienne Tameka Empson returns to EastEnders next month, show bosses have confirmed.

The 33-year-old reprises her role as Denise Fox's outlandish sister Kim, who is expected to "cause mayhem" with the locals as she settles into life on Albert Square.

Beneath her "viscous and bubbly" exterior lies a "vulnerable creature with low self-esteem". Her comeback fails to impress her brother-in-law Lucas (Don Gilet) who is desperate for her to leave almost as soon as she arrives.

Empson last appeared as Kim at the end of 2009 when she and her alcoholic boyfriend Dexter (Robbie Gee) turned up to Denise and Lucas's wedding in November.

When Dexter fails to return with her, Denise is left wondering where he is and it soon transpires that Kim is running away from something - or someone.

Speaking of her return, Empson said: "I'm really thrilled and excited to be returning to EastEnders. I've always loved the show and working with such fantastic actors makes the whole experience even sweeter."

She added: "Kim Fox is such a great character to play and gives me scope to do things I usually wouldn't get away with."

Executive producer Bryan Kirkwood commented: "I'm a huge fan of Tameka. She is a real talent and will bring a fresh, funny and exciting new flavour to the show."

Empson returns to screens in June, during the same week as Zöe Lucker's debut as Vanessa Gold.

And here we go again...

Sam Attwater and Emer Kenny are to leave EastEnders in the coming months, Digital Spy can exclusively reveal.

The pair - who play Leon Small and Zsa Zsa Carter in the show - are the latest cast members to be written out under new executive producer Bryan Kirkwood's tenure.

Their characters first appeared in online spinoff E20, before transitioning into the main show shortly after the run of 12 webisodes.

Speaking of their departure, Kirkwood exclusively told DS: "Emer and Sam have made a real impact in the short time they've been on the Square and we wish them all the best for the future."

He added: "Of course, we look forward to continuing working with Emer in her capacity as a writer on EastEnders: E20."

Attwater and Kenny are the 13th and 14th cast members scheduled to bow out before the end of the year.

Other actors due to leave include Lacey Turner (Stacey Slater), Tiana Benjamin (Chelsea Fox) and Barbara Windsor (Peggy Mitchell).

Since his arrival, however, Kirkwood has cast former Footballers' Wives star Zöe Lucker and soap newcomer Kylie Babbington as mother-daughter duo Vanessa and Jodie Gold.

Goodbye Zsa Zsa :drama:

Glad that Kim Fox is returning. Adored her character but they will probably have to tone her down abit.

Shame about Zsa Zsa though as I liked her, not fussed about Leon really.

TBH I never thought I'd say it but I'm glad Fatboy is staying.

I really liked his and Mercy's friendship and he was a much better character with her. It also sounds like BK knows they haven't worked out right so will attempt to fix this. I hope they dump the name Fatboy though once Leon goes as Mercy did call him Arthur more in E20.

Mercy's gran, Grace, joining is also good.

It's hilarious how the crappy characters are literally dropping like flies. Zsa Zsa had some potential but she's no great loss, and Leon is of course utterly dreadful.

Well fair play to Kirkwood - I'm rarely for a character axing, but Leon just DOESN'T work. I'm a little disappointed about Zsa Zsa truth be told, because I love the Phil/Shirley clan. But I suppose it was not going to last anyway with Ben off soon.
Is the character of Ben actually off or is he just having a little recast into a fitter, better actor? The character of Ben only has Phil and Ian - he can't move anywhere? I can forsee a boarding school and a return as a buff ting though maybe.

I think it more likely they'll ship him off, and have him return in 2013 recast as a hottie.

Seeing as Kirkwood is making good progress through the chaff, how about getting rid of Billie Jackson next?
