Posted April 9, 201015 yr Hello pop pickers! As you no doubt know, the BBC has announced plans to close BBC 6Music and some other services. I am part of the 170,000 member Facebook campaign against this. You will all have your own music tastes, that's great, we want to keep 6 in part so that jangly indie alt post punk funk soul freak acid prog nonsense can be kept away from hurting your ears. We have chosen this week to try to get Half Man Half Biscuit's Joy Division Oven Gloves to #6 in the charts. Whilst I must urge you to buy this fine piece of Birkenhead poetry and visit joydivisionovengloves.com to learn more about our lovely campaign, my question to you helpful people is one of dufferish bewilderment. at the moment, we are bouncing around 1/2/3 on the Amazon chart. we have moved up from about 7 to 3 in the play chart. But we are 54 at iTunes? Where are we likely to end up? My theory is that my fellow duffers like me tend to buy CDs (and books and electronics), hence already have Amazon accounts whereas (being somewhat out of touch) may have iPod thingies but have shied away from downloads as we come for a generation thyat supported bands by buying their (vinyl) albums. Interested to hear your thoughts Save 6!
April 9, 201015 yr I've bought it. Unfortunately the majority of people in here would rather buy less descerning music ;-( I reckon it will go Top 40 just.... Shame - as it going higher would have added more to the campaign to save the fantastic 6Music
April 9, 201015 yr Best of luck with the campaign, I'm all for diversity of music on radio, and Radio 1 is basically unlistenable these days. Unfortunately iTunes sales are larger than the other major download sites put together. So it's quite possible, that the #1 on Amazon could be selling as much as the #54 on iTunes. If the campaign keeps going the way it has, I can definitely see top 40 by the weekend, but not much higher I'm afraid. Anyway welcome to Buzzjack Colin, I hope you'll stick around, as this site could use more older posters :)
April 9, 201015 yr I have bought JDOG too and really hope it ends up as high as possible in the Top 40 to publicise our fight to save Radio 6. We want to save this radio station as it plays the best new and old music available on my digital radio. I have just endured a visit to the dentist and having to listen to a different radio station was almost more painful than hearing that I need root canal surgery.
April 9, 201015 yr My guess is in that in the time-honoured tradition of indie underachievement it'll land at 41... (I've bought it)
April 9, 201015 yr Excellent choice of song. HMHB are just the sort of band you won't hear anywhere else.
