Hyph Mngo is one of the best tracks I've heard in ages, it was released last year but I've only just heard it for the first time. He gets lumped in with dubstep but there's something far more interesting about his production technique and beats. There's almost an idm sensibility but at the same time there are really warm accessible melodies and vocal hooks, and even some of the nostalgic fuzz of Boards Of Canada and My Bloody Valentine. The most exciting 'dance' producer since Aphex Twin?

I agree that Hyph Mngo is an excellent track, I'm reserving full judgement until I've heard a few more of his though.

I'm liking your taste at the moment, Joy Orbison and Django Django in the last two posts of yours I've seen. Good stuff Mr Cod.

Thank you kind Dandy sir :D I mostly exist in a 60's/70's bubble these days but I'm trying to be a bit more modern and keep up with the kids

There aren't many Joy Orbison tracks around actually, as I searched after I'd heard Hyph Mngo (even the title sounds a bit Aphex Twin-ish!) and there are only 3 official releases to his name and a clutch of remixes. Hyph Mngo is the best I've heard so far but check out The Shrew Cushioned The Blow, as that has the same kind of structure and warmth. I can't wait for an album!

Just listened and I liked muchly. I agree with your Aphex Twin comparisons, definitely a lot of promise.

By the way, have you noted there's a BJ version of the old CDSWAP thing? It's in the Indie forum (pinned), you should sign up if you have time.

Hyph Mngo is one of the best tunes from last year and even made it into NME's top 50 tracks of 2009 (at #18)

Another dubstep track I dig at the mo' is Blame - On my own (Drumsound & Bassline Smith remix) (can't post youtube link unfortunately)

I hope dubstep will get chart success in 2010 (along with some D&B and New school UKG), because I'm a bit sick of all these cr*ppy euro dance tunes in the top 40 (Guetta & co)

I'm listening to this and not sure I get why people think it's great. It's got very few hooks. I dont like the vocal sample - sounds too late 90s dance.
Having listened to Wet Look I think it's gonna be a case of Underworld syndrome with me. Just dont get it.

The dance music scene has been so stagnant lately though (or maybe it's been me not keeping up with trends), hearing Joy Orbison and the way he effortlessly links little disparate fragments of subgenre together without it sounding messy and disjointed.. it's just nice to have a talented producer with one eye on the dancefloor and the other on the idm crowd.
