Posted April 28, 201015 yr The main playlist in the country, Radio 1 playlist, in 2010 more and more often seems to be irrelevant: adding a lot of flop singles as well as not adding some top-10 hits. What songs in 2010 did well despite the Radio 1 ignorance? I remember from the first thought: Lemar - The Way Love Goes (#8) Gabriella Cilmi - On a Mission (#9) Selena Gomez & The Scene - Naturally (#7) David Guetta - Memories (feat. Kid Cudi) (#15, 3 weeks in the top20 at least) Were Jedward playlisted? They had the X-Factor effect though... I don't think we should count the campaign songs such as Tina Turner and Delirious?. But there are some other examples which I can't remember for now. Edited April 28, 201015 yr by Arrs
April 28, 201015 yr URGH! For the last time the playlist isn't compiled based on where they'll get in the bloody chart! Radio 1 picks the songs based on what their audience want to listen to. Plus surely people have learned by now that the third or fourth singles from albums rarely do so well nowadays because people have bought the ALBUM. I love how the term 'flop' is used so much around, there are plenty of bands who are in it because they like making music and would love a top 75 hit.

April 28, 201015 yr Author That thing is appropriate for the indie records. But when we talk about the pop/dance/R&B records we can definitely see some regularities in R1 playlisting policy which show that they certainly watch and take a note of the artist's past commercial success.
April 28, 201015 yr It's got a lot more to do with just "what their audience wants to hear". If that was the case, they would still be ignoring Guetta after Memories became a hit. Or does their "audience research" hate Memories and love Gettin' Over You? Doubt it. Anyway this can be discussed on the Radio 1 playlist thread. There aren't that many hits to warrant a new thread.
