Apparently, he thinks that the charts have become bubblegum poppy. I don't quite agree with what Slash is saying. There's lots of rock music in the charts. Like Biffy Clyro and Paramore. :) But anyway that's what I think. Would you agree or disagree with that?

May 7, 201015 yr There has been a lack of real Rock Music in the charts for a LONG time now though. All these wannabe bands that come and go are purely Pop music really.
May 7, 201015 yr I think he's right... but there's a reason for that. His sort of rock music isn't mainstream anymore. It will be again, but atm we're here and there's no use moaning about it.

I wouldn't say it wasn't mainstream anymore, it just doesn't really exist 'commercially'. There are still contemporary rock acts about, i.e. 'Kings of Leon'; there really just is a lack of contemporary rock acts.
May 8, 201015 yr Groups like Paramore, Kings Of Leon and Biffy Clyro are rock only in the very lightest sense. More like heavy indie bands. Personally I can't remember the last genuine rock top 20 hit single
May 8, 201015 yr I've said it before and I'll say it again: the demise of multi-formatting singles mean that rock bands are less likely to get hit singles as there's only potentially 1 copy of a single that they can buy. It's only really the rock songs with cross-over appeal (Kings of Leon) or massive fanbases that will make it to the top 20.
May 11, 201015 yr i think most first singles by big bands still do relatively well commercially (even tho rocks domination of the charts ended around 2007) but follow ups find it hard still. this has to do with the dominace of video airplay in the charts today whereby videos with the good looking 'artists' or unique vids do well at the expense of bands who generally put less into their videos so the follow up singles flop - in comparision to artists like rihanna/jls who get played loads by strutting their stuff!!

May 11, 201015 yr  Ill prop get laughed at 4 this but I think Mumford & Sons are rock music in the traditional sense with a little folky element and they are doing great.
May 12, 201015 yr Rage Against The Machine? :P My memories clearly going. But I was actually thinkig of modern releases
May 12, 201015 yr there isn't really a lot of rock music in the charts but I wouldn't really care as I wouldn't want the good stuff associated with some of the rubbish that appears in the top 40 anyway. for instance the new Deftones album has reached No6 in the Billboard 200, it reached a pitiful No26 here compared to XF rejects and Glee who go straight to No1 despite their albums being nothing in quality compared to Diamond Eyes which in my opinion is one of the best albums of the year so far and probably nearly the best album the band have done. Obviously the band are more known in the US and probably have less promotion over here than XF reject or Glee but it's still an album that should be much higher
May 13, 201015 yr I think the last succesful real rock band was the Foo Fighters? That wasn't too long ago.. They released 'Wheels' just last year...
May 13, 201015 yr Rock/Metal fans dont tend to really care about the charts... And the vast majority of Rock fans also are more inclined to buy albums than singles...
May 24, 201015 yr I think the last succesful real rock band was the Foo Fighters? That wasn't too long ago.. They released 'Wheels' just last year... Foo Fighters are in that group who tend to do well regardless of how much the mainstream media supports them nowadays, their records just fall more quickly with less exposure. For instance, "The Pretender" was heavily rotated and climbed to #8, whereas "Wheels" wasn't and dropped quickly. Their Greatest Hits entered at #4, dropped quite quickly but stuck around in the top 40 for AGES, I still think if they'd have played "Wheels" on X-Factor in the week Bon Jovi were on and got to #2 the album would have comfortably made #1.
