Posted May 24, 201015 yr Okay, so I thought again, one big topic to keep all the transfers happening over the summer. The biggie so far is Villa to Barcelona, which personally I do not understand. Villa's a great player, but I don't see the need for him at Barca, it's not as if he's a spring chicken or anything! Pedro and Bojan have stepped up this year. Fabregas seems as good as gone to Barca as well. Of course with it being World Cup year, prices of players are likely to rocket up to something stupid.
May 24, 201015 yr We've so far signed Christian Riveros from Cruz Azul, who should give us some much-needed creatvity in midfield. We're also reportedly still after Figueroa, who would solve the problem at left back. Must-buys this summer: 2 decent full backs, 2 natural wingers and a backup striker. We could use a decent centre back for cover as well. Apparently Fulop's off so we'll possibly need another keeper too.
May 24, 201015 yr Ben Foster to Birmingham is a good signing for them I think. I think he'll do well at a club at that level. First choice for a year or so and he'll be back in the England fold. Most activity so far is going on at Scunthorpe, already lost three first team regulars on frees. Not looking good for them next season which is a shame, they've done really well recently.
June 5, 201015 yr Finally some English transfers of note. Wolves have signed Steven Fletcher from Burnley for a 'record fee' - good signing that is. Thomas Hitzlsperger has joined West Ham, and Man City have confirmed the signing of Jerome Boateng.
July 15, 201014 yr Author Thought i'd bump this back up. I've been a bit out of touch with the football world (and did not see as much as the World Cup as I had hoped) with me being on holiday. Man City have signed David Silva and Yaya Toure though. I admire Silva muchly as a player, but £24m?! I can think of better attacking left wingers for that sort of price. I just find him to be far too inconsistent - one minute he's amazing, the next minute you don't even know he's on the pitch. Mascherano is pretty much on his way to Inter aswell.
July 16, 201014 yr Silva is ok, it's rumoured that they're making Yaya Toure the highest paid player in football (or maybe just the Premier League?). Beyond ridiculous.
July 16, 201014 yr Author Silva is ok, it's rumoured that they're making Yaya Toure the highest paid player in football (or maybe just the Premier League?). Beyond ridiculous. Seriously?! He's not even that good! Pretty sure the highest paid player in the Premier League is on about 140k a week (John Terry/Frank Lampard I think?).
July 16, 201014 yr It was only in the NOTW but it was 110k a week AFTER tax for the next 5 years they reported. When the tax rate goes up it's over £200k a week! He's apparently denied it but still, whatever he's getting will be too much. He made something like 14 starts for Barca last season.
July 18, 201014 yr Author Some players are really going down in my expectations, and not suprisingly it's foreign ones. First it was Puyol spouting how Fabregas will join Barca, now Milito at Inter has been mouthing out about Mascherano going to Inter (even if it is going to happen). Some players really do need to learn a bit of respect. Twats.
July 18, 201014 yr In recent days West Ham have signed Mexican striker Pablo Berrera for £4m and Frederic Piquionne. Daryl Murphy has joined Celtic (dear me), as has Joe Ledley. Man City have reportedly agreed a fee to sign Serbian left back Aleksandar Kolarov from Lazio for £16m. Liverpool have accepted a bid from Fiorentina for Emiliano Insua. Old Firm All Stars continue to get stronger in the Championship with Steven McManus and Kevin Thomson joining Kris Boyd and Nicky Bailey at Middlesbrough this summer. If they don't get promoted it'll be a massive failire.
July 18, 201014 yr Author Can't believe that plank of a chief exec has sold Insua. Liverpool don't have a senior left back, and their season starts in about 10 days!
July 18, 201014 yr It does seem a bit odd, but maybe he wants to leave? No point keeping him if that's the case. I think he played too much last year, I thought he went backwards rather than got better, but that was because Dossena was dreadful and Aurelio was always crocked so he had to play. Not sure who'll you'll be playing at the back for the first leg of the Europa League as Hodgson looks like he's noy going to play anyone who was at the World Cup. That leaves N'Gog, Lucas, Degen, Aqualani, Ayala, Kelly, El Zhar, erm...?

Don't think Insua wanted to leave. More like he was forced out. He did go backwards last season, yet Fiorentina, a team who beat Liverpool last season want him for £5m. Absolute steal. Not the best defender but he's only 21.
July 19, 201014 yr Author Joe Cole on his way to Liverpool apparently. Official now. Good signing, but pluses and negatives. On the plus side he's just the sort of attacking player we need. But we don't need another injury prone player at Liverpool, and we seem to be signing a lot of players who will need replacing in the short term. Must of been a big decision for him to move up north and leave London. Guess 1st team football must have persuaded him to joing Liverpool and not Spurs with 'arry...
July 19, 201014 yr I'm not sure he's worth the reported 90k a week. I know there's no transfer fee but still...
July 20, 201014 yr Liverpool agree fee with Rangers for centre-half Danny Wilson. Didn't they sing Mary's Prayer?
July 21, 201014 yr Arsenal have sold Eduardo to Shakhtar Donetsk for a reported £6m. I have no idea why Forest are favourites with Middlesbrough to go up at the moment... We had the smallest squad in the Championship last year and were very lucky with injuries as all of our key players bar McKenna stayed virtually injury and suspension free. This year we're already 3 players down and have lost one player for the first two months of the season.
