May 27, 201015 yr Ok, as long as one of Armenia, Denmark, Greece, Turkey or Germany win then I'll be richer than I am now :D Turkey, Denmark or Greece would be big windfalls :cheer:
May 27, 201015 yr Hardly anyone in the UK watches the semi finals or hears the songs before the final, and I'm pretty sure that for most of the voters this is the same case. I'd be fairly sure to predict that only about 5% of the viewing public will have heard all of the songs before the final - aside from those that have watched the semi final. If they released figures on when people voted, the amount of votes will increase dramatically during the final recap.
May 27, 201015 yr ^ LOL we have the same flags in the siggys :kink: Oh we do indeed :o You have France and Germany the wrong way around though :P
May 27, 201015 yr I have to say I think you're getting a bit heavy with all this neutralization stuff.... Also I doubt the juries will play by the same rules (they'll know all the songs very well)....and they're 50% of the vote remember. Really? Are you saying that Ireland are going to be just as effective going straight after Belarus as they would've been going between, say, Iceland and France? We saw the effects of having slower songs in a row tonight - Sweden after Switzerland, Croatia after Cyprus et al. The very ethnic Finland and Slovakia cancelled one another out in SF1 and Portugal did well off standing out hugely after Greece. The juries won't necessarily know the songs very well. There's no guarantee that they might only be judging the songs for the second time in the final ;)
May 27, 201015 yr I don't have figures but they get to hear the songs before the final...and having 2 semi's doesn't that tell you that they have already heard all the songs apart from Big 4 + host? Again, the vast majority of people who watch the final won't have watched the semis
May 28, 201015 yr In some countries that is definitly the case but i know here in Ireland the semi finals pull in huge audiences especially the semi that ireland takes part in. I f remember correctly the last 2 years semi final with ireland in it pulled it almost as much ratings as the eurovision final itself. Per capita Ireland definitly has a far higher viewer rate for eurovision than the UK.
May 28, 201015 yr Author It's complete bollocks that the vast majority knows all the songs and formed the opinion on them beforehand  I doubt that even half of them watch Semis, especially if your country auto-qualifies! Well, there could already be a book written explaining all the rules/hints of/about Eurovision and half of it would be dedicated to the running order advantages/disadvantages  There could be well a whole subject "Eurovision theory/history" :kink:
May 28, 201015 yr Author It's comments time! :magic: 01. Lithuania // What an amazing new version of this! :o Sounds very lovely. The 'dance' routine was quite awesome tbh  I thought they could scrape it into the final from 10th place but it didn't happen :( Knowing their luck they would have gotten the 1st slot again haha! 02. Armenia // What a $h!tty performance. In a mixture with an even more $h!ttier song it becomes toxic wastes. I wouldn't find many differences between watching paint dry/stabbing yourself and this performance. Plus Eva has a $h!tty personality. Poor Ovi in the press-conference, he probably wanted to say congrats and she didn't even look at him, even out of politeness. Diva much? You've not won yet biatch. 03. Israel // This was orgasmic. Well, almost all of it because at the end Harel lost something to his song, vocals were out of tune, i hoped they would improve but no  Still, i even shed a tear when he sang, it was so heart-breaking and incredible. Oh and I WOULD without question as well. :kink: 04. Denmark // The dullest performance like ever. Jemini were even better back to their day, this includes the quality of the song too. LOL. Their faces were so robotic i wanted to just vomit on my couch. At one moment near to the end Thomas made such a hilariously scared 'OMG WHAT THE f*** AM I DOING HERE?!?!? WHO'S THAT GIRL??? I LOVE POLINA GRIFFITZ' face. 05. Switzerland // This was good. Lacked of charisma but the singing was good. Swiss entries are good but they always have something missing. Too bad because they could RULE this contest. 06. Sweden // Well, this song DNQing is an absolute shock to me. WITH ALL THE LIGHTS THEY BOUGHT?! That like guarantees the qualification :kink: Vocals were very good, even better than on Melodifestivalen! But indeed not many people would possibly like her voice, too pitchy and needs knowlwdge to realise it is not her nerves or lack of vocal skills, it's just her voice  07. Azerbaijan // Disaster. The ending was very good though. However, back to the hate, her voice was so shaky, movements clumsy and inconfident. I should add her name to the 'Kristina should now learn from Sofia' phrase. But she's like 2.5 years younger than myself so she'll get to representing some country on ESC someday i'm sure, and she will win. Hopefully it'll be Russia. But she doesn't speak Russian?! On the press conference she spoke in Azeri even though she understood the journalist's question's translation into russian. :( I really have issues about that :drama: 08. Ukraine // As soon as i heard it i thought it'd definitely qualify and i wasn't wrong :magic: Very strong vocally, but nothing new here, the voice is of 4 octaves range!!! The performance was a little bit boring however, she needs to add more drama on stage imo. Stands a strong chance for the Top 10 tbh. 09. The Netherlands // Well, i knew this would DNQ, but it would be so amazing if i was proved wrong. :( The staging was excellent. She definitely can sing although looking 20+ years older than you are doesn't help much :kink: 10. Romania // It's almost completely Paula's achievement they got through, her vocals were so much better than Ovi's. In fact she surprisingly can sing, and sings amazingly! I used to think about it as a generic song sung by 'averages'. :o 11. Slovenia // It was SO much better than their NF performance, especially the guy who sang 'rock' parts, but i'd not like to exclude the girl's vocals which were improved vastly as well, the voice wasn't shaky at all. Still any voice can't save from DNQing if a song is bad. 12. Ireland // I was so disappointed (allegedly so as her too) when she couldn't reach the final note, the ending is very important, it's so significant to do as best as you can there, but it seems one slip throughout the song can really bring you down. However this and Israel qualified so i'm hoping for vast improvement in the final, for both of you guys :smoke: 13. Bulgaria // CUT THAT f***ING HAIR OFF. EW. 'Angels' were hot :kink: Looks like the english half couldn't help that much. I loved it btw having heard it only for the first time yesterday! :o So, the song was good, and i won't be surprised if it finished 11th/12th with 1-3 points differences from the 10th qualifier. 14. Cyprus // GOSH, JUST SHUT UP. The press conference was AWFUL. Likes showing off too much. The song is a snoozefest, unlike Belgium's quite a masterpiece! :o Couldn't possibly think they'd both qualify LOL! 15. Croatia // CRIME THAT EQUAL TO HENOCIDE. SO shocked it couldn't get through. what more does Europe need?! Hot chicks - check! AMAZING performance - check, astounding vocals - check, outfit - ch..... hmmmm... well i see the reason now :kink: 16. Georgia // This was the best performance of the show closely followed by Israel. I couldn't believe how she could manage to maintain her amazing vocals throughout the song! It could seem easy to sing when somebody is 'doing things' with you because it'd look as if you don't participate so it doesn't require any motion or physical efforts from her. It's actually VERY difficult imo however. Getting distracted is the worst thing but she does absolute wonders there on stage managing to flawlessly sing when the dancer drags her from one end of the scene to another with their faces so close to each other's that you would forget about your voice 47 times already!!! Probably the best performance of this year so far, well the best performance out of the semifinalists for sure. Absolutely gorgeous. I hope Europe will see/saw it too. Looks like Jerick wasn't THAT wrong (well, 1st is still an exaggeration though) about her result! :o 17. Turkey // Good closing performance. I'm bored of this song so much i can't really judge objectively.
May 28, 201015 yr Blah...curses -.- 7/10 again :( ... This is what I missed: Ireland (I thought CROATIA!!! Criminal that they didn't get trough...biggest surprise EVER in ESC) Ukraine (I thought SWEDEN! But yah, i kinda guessed they could get trough cause they are the only ones with this tune to their song, so yah..) Cyprus (WTF? ... I thought Bulgaria) Croatia missing out is so disappointing...$@%@%@# Btw the position in final... 1. Azerbaijan XD AHahha so glad they get the opening slot...this will so lower their chances 21. Armenia 24. Israel ^^^^^^^^ My faves this year and good positions :) Edited May 28, 201015 yr by Sttefan
May 28, 201015 yr That's the point. Not all songs are on the same levels of chances to begin with. For example, Azerbaijan would've been in with a big shot to win compared to, say, Denmark. Now a very favourable draw for Denmark and a not so favourable draw for Azerbaijan means that Azerbaijan has been neutralised and Denmark boosted, and they're now in with close chances to win. Essentially, they've been neutralised to a point where there is no truly obvious 'yes, that is a fantastic slot for them and they will win from it'. I don't think you can really say the results will be exactly the same like this as they would've been before  I do wonder if the draw will really count as much in the jury/televote era. I mean the last couple of songs last year came last in the final didn't they? Granted neither were favourites but everyone was expecting a big boost for both of them which didn't happen. And Yohanna came 2nd from performing in the same slot as Belgium are in this year, whereas you'd think she would have been forgotten about by this point...
May 28, 201015 yr Balkan countries will vote for each other like crazy and the votes will differ a lot which means it's probably the strongest western country that will win followed by Turkey and one or two Balkan entries There are no clear faves...So exciting final tomorrow!! May 28, 201015 yr Ireland are absolutely slaughtered going straight after Belarus. How come? That hilarious butterfly fairytale before helps people to get ready for a good ballad
May 28, 201015 yr [04. Denmark // The dullest performance like ever. Jemini were even better back to their day, this includes the quality of the song too. LOL. Too bad because they could RULE this contest. I agree totally.. What SUI also lack are neighbours. They get no neighbour votes since Austria and Italy don't participate and French people vote for them if they sing in French. Edited May 28, 201015 yr by SKOB
May 28, 201015 yr Now that Croatia is so awfully DNQ-ed I can predict that Balcans will give 12 to Bosnia and 10 to Serbia... sooo...
May 28, 201015 yr How come? That hilarious butterfly fairytale before helps people to get ready for a good ballad As ballads go, they're pretty similar. Not like, Norway-similar, but people will just think 'oh, another ballad'. In a field of 25 songs you need to stand out - coming straight after a big ballad isn't going to have Ireland stand out.
May 28, 201015 yr Now that Croatia is so awfully DNQ-ed I can predict that Balcans will give 12 to Bosnia and 10 to Serbia... sooo... Croatia aside, the 12s will all go Serbia's way.

In a field of 25 songs you need to stand out - coming straight after a big ballad isn't going to have Ireland stand out. But I believe that there's some hype around Niamh who has already won once..So people will pay attention to Ireland. Or maybe it's just me hoping that she'll do well :)
May 28, 201015 yr Really? Are you saying that Ireland are going to be just as effective going straight after Belarus as they would've been going between, say, Iceland and France? There's no guarantee that they might only be judging the songs for the second time in the final ;) I'd imagine as the juries it would be their duty to at least be familiar with all the songs beforehand.....so you're saying they just walked into the semis with no idea what the songs were going to be? I find that really hard to believe. I'm saying that your whole neutralization argument isn't really water tight, it's easy to assume that everyone won't take to a song just because the one before it was similar but how can you really know the viewers? Sweden and Croatia could have DNQed for any other reason....I've heard some people saying they thought Anna was shaky and that one of the Croatian girls messed up at the start. Some people may just be of the opinion that Sweden and Croatia didn't perform well (even if you think they did) and not voted for them as a result. Plus you're basing all this (I assume anyway) on past years, however we've already seen that juries being in the semis have already effected the semis quite dramatically. I'd guess that it was the juries that didn't take too well to Sweden and Croatia. (for whatever reason) I don't think the juries are quite as easy to predict, we might imagine they'd eat something like Sweden and Croatia up but that's not necessarily what happened...
