5.5m (24%) watched on BBC1, with a further 0.3m watching in HD, bringing the total to 5.8m (25.5%). Peaked at 7.8m (43.2%) at around 11pm. Britain's Got Talent got 9.3m however.

Last few years:

2009 - 7.8m (35%) * peak: 9.8m (52%)

2008 - 7.1m (35%) * peak: 9.3m (50%)

2007 - 8.7m (40%) * peak: 10.9m (53%)

2006 - 8.2m (37%) * peak: 10.6m

2005 - 7.9m (39%) * peak: 9.4m

2004 - 8.3m (42%)

2003 - 7.9m (38%) * peak: 10.8m

2002 - 7.8m (36%) * peak: 10.9m (54%)

2001 - 6.9m (37%)

So the lowest by quite a stretch. :( All figures from Digital Spy forums.

Because a. We sent crap, hence a lack of interest, and b. We sent crap whilst going up against BGT. Simple really...

How was the promotion on the BBC for it? I never watch anything on BBC1, so haven't noticed if they've been plugging it well or not.
Do 9 million people seriously still watch BGT  I suppose that would be the main reason then.....

Wait for the live shows next week...they'll be getting 11/12m average and a peak even higher than that. And the final will probably peak at 16m or more...

Virtually non existent. Pete Waterman went on a couple of things, and Josh did the lottery (two weeks ago ) but the trailer wasn't shown that often and when it was it was awful (cut together from clips of Your Country Needs You, no new footage or even voiceover).

It seemed like the BBC were completely embarassed by our song this year and even they didn't want to promote it. I remember last year lots of family members and friends had either heard about the song or heard the song itself in the run up to the final but this year most people I spoke to didn't even know who was representing us. It's not really surprising no one was watching.

They are too busy promoting the World Cup. They seem to think lots of their viewers are so thick they still haven't cottoned on to the fact that the BBC will be showing the tournament. Although the fact that the song was awful may have contributed to it. Josh did his best but even the best singer couldn't make that sound much good.

So many people I know didn't have a clue who our entry was this year, yet last year there was a huge buzz around Jade and Andrew. Everyone knew we'd flop so didn't bother to watch. The sad thing is most of the 2 million who watched it last year and not this year, who are casual viewers and probably casual consumers of music were probably the ones who downloaded the songs off iTunes.

Ratings for other countries

Belgium - 1,522,000 (58% MS) [14%]

France - 3,600,000 (20.9% MS) [6%]

Germany - 14,000,000 (49.1% MS) [17%]

Greece - 3,700,000 (72.5% MS) [33%]

Ireland - 719,000 (65% MS) [17%]

Israel - 332,000 (35% MS) [5%]

Netherlands - 1,245,000 (19% MS) [7%]

Poland - 2,054,000 (21% MS) [5%]

Portugal - 1,400,000 (39.1% MS) [13%]

Serbia - 3,500,000 (95% MS) :o [34%]

Spain - 5,700,000 (41.9% MS) [13%]

Sweden - 1,694,000 (45% MS) [19%]

United Kingdom - 5,500,000 (24.4% MS) [9%]

The first percentage is the market share. The second percentage is the percentage of people in that country that watched Eurovision - for that, I used the population of that country that is listed on eurovision.tv. (Amount of viewers divided by the population, then I rounded the answer up)

Do Serbia have a lack of TV Channels or something? I mean, 95% of people watching TV in Serbia while ESC was on, were actually watching Eurovision?

Incredible for Germany, still if we were sending one of the realistic favourites, and a song that had just been #1 for 5 weeks and broken sales records, I guess our ratings would be slightly higher. Think about it, if we were sending Cheryl Cole, I'm confident that our figures would add at least 2 or 3 million!

Lol at Serbia and Ireland! :D

I don't know why the Brits are complaining - they don't send a decent song (they themselve don't like it so why should anyone in Europe do it?), they don't watch it because of lack of interests and in the end they're still moaning why no one loves them and don't vote for them - this whole scenario happened all the last years (except of last year of course...).

The question is, why didn't they learn from last year and get back to the $h!t before '09...??

Eurovision all does well ratings wise in Ireland and im sure the 2nd semi final had just as high ratings as the final itself.

perhaps because we subsidise this sodding contest more heavily than ANY of the other participating countries?

And by the way, this year's German winner is one of the most truly dreadful winners EVER... I do hope Lily Allen asks for her 'cock-er-ney' accent (and her back catalogue) back soon..... :puke2: Still, good old Germany's bailing Europe out right now, so little wonder their monstrosity of an entry walked the contest really....

I suppose the fact that it was already doing pretty well in Europe's charts as a whole had absolutely nothing to do with it. Likewise, it's now #1 in pretty much every European country (France and the UK excepted), so I'd say the song itself might've just have, you know, a slight impact...

even though it sounds like it was conjured up in the mind of a backward eight year old? Yes, probably the, ahem, stellar quality of the song definitely earned it them points and it winning had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the billions Germany are doling out to other European country right now

In other words.... WAKE UP!

Russ = Your ignorant posts on this subject of a song that has gone Top 10 in every country in Europe bar the UK & France is on an arrogance on a par with Pete Waterman.

I suppose you agree as well with Pete Waterman that the reason the UK came last was because they have elected a Conservative eurosceptic Goverment which makes us unpopular with Europe; and not because in a tweet this week by Graham Norton we sent a song that belonged to a PWL shelf "filed: Jason Donovan rejects (1988)".

FUKKIN' PRAT!
