The only similarity between SD and MJ that I can see is that SD appears to sample Beat It at the start

Yeah that's kinda what I meant. ;) I'm not sure if it samples Beat It though. A sample is an exact piece of music taken from one song and used in another - SD has a similar bassline but it's not identical.

Yeah, it's not technically a sample, but it's definitely very similar to Beat It.

Using the technical description of sample, msot songs using 'samples' recently aren't sampling at all but rather interpolating (same lyrics and same tune but a different voice)

Tocadisco? They're not credited on the song.

I think the OCC might be getting mixed up with another song David Guetta and Chris Willis worked on 'Tomorrow cant wait'. Still it should of been rectified by now.

An example of a sample (slick rhyming there ^_^) is Rihanna's S.O.S (Rescue Me) sampling Tainted Love.

I.e taking an extract of a song (piece of music - melody etc) and including it in another song.

Oh dear, looks like Lena will end up about #32/33 officially on Sunday :( Still, it's almost certain for top 40 which is better than 90% of ESC winners achieve :cheer:

I guess Fairytale was just something else altogether last year, for it to go top ten here was incredible :o

Hardly incredible.

More people were interested last year (moreso than any other recent years) because we stood a good chance of winning. It was hyped up quite a bit here in the UK so whoever won would have more coverage cos lots of people would be tuning in to watch the ESC.

Fairytale was pretty much universally loved by the entirety of Europe also - didn't it break the Eurovision points record? It was quite an extraordinary winner.
Fairytale was a $h!t song. Our song wasn't any better (XF winner single reject?) but God they're all bad in general. And it's supposed to be a song contest...

Glad to see Jack Johnson at #1, let's hope he stays there, sales in the top 3 albums must be very close.

Them 24 hours she wasn't available after Eurovision were crucial for Lena.

That's what would've got her up the chart fast in a more exposed position.

Yes I agree, she could have got top ten I reckon and benefitted hugely from that effect. I suppose by Monday a lot of people just couldn't care anymore :(

And I still think Fairytale going top ten was incredible in a nation that never buys Eurovision entries, rarely our own let alone anybody elses. Yes it had more viewers than last year but maybe on par or slightly less than the 2008 contest had and Dima Bilan's Believe, the winner of that contest, didn't even go top 75, nor did Molitva the year before, so a lot of people obviously loved it in the UK. Proving this is the fact that it's a staple in the iTunes top 1000 (unheard of for a Eurovision song) and often reappears in the top 100 when he promotes it somewhere. If it had had maintained support, promotion and airplay when it came out, I'm sure it could have managed a lot better than 2 weeks in the top 40! Although obviously people are entitled to their opinions but I think Fairytale was fantastic and very worthy of being the huge European hit that it was.

Delighted jack johnson is number 1 i like the way he had built up all week and is finally at the top .

His sales will be horrendous though

I think it's because the Brits record companies are not used to let release German songs/singers in the UK...
