June 2, 201015 yr Surprisingly poor chart for such a good year - I remember the summer especially being beautifully hot that year, so a lot of 1997's songs remind me of sunshine! Only two here I really like are Eternal and DJ Quicksilver.
June 2, 201015 yr Surprisingly poor chart for such a good year - I remember the summer especially being beautifully hot that year, so a lot of 1997's songs remind me of sunshine! Only two here I really like are Eternal and DJ Quicksilver. dunno what country you were in then m8... summer 97 was nothing but ordinary. 95 was hot... the last hot summer (as in 3 months) we have had.
June 2, 201015 yr 1. Hanson - Mmmbop Soooooo annoying! 2. Eternal ft Bebe Winans - I Wanna Be The Only One I loved Eternal as a nipper, those sisters were proper bitches though! 3. Radiohead - Paranoid Android Not my bag 4. Sarah Brightman & Andrea Bochelli - Time To Say Goodbye (Con Te Partiro) Nor this... 5. Rosie Gaines - Closer Than Close Liked this at the time, though it's one I never listen to now... 6. Olive - You're Not Alone Classic track, still sounds good 7. Rembrandts - I'll Be There For You If there is one reason not to watch Friends, it's THIS! 8. Cardigans - Lovefool Overplayed, never been a fan 9. Sneaker Pimps - Six Underground Love this, from a very under-rated album aswell. 10. Toby Bourke with George Michael - Waltz Away Dreaming No thanks... Of the rest, I like: Err, none of them! Oh dear that chart was shambolic, considering I was 13 at the time, there should be a lot for me to like. The problem with this particular chart is there are hardly any tracks that I would play today, provided some pleasure at the time but have now been totally forgotten about.

June 4, 201015 yr 1. Hanson - Mmmbop Really annoying 2. Eternal ft Bebe Winans - I Wanna Be The Only One Don't remember this Looking at your likes and dislikes from your list, I think it might be for the best. I thought some of Eternal & Louise’s hits were alright but I never thought they were in the same league as someone like All Saints. Loz

June 4, 201015 yr agreed actually im sure grebo would know that eternal/bb winans track if he heard it... it was everywhere... but im not going to post it up cos i HATE it! lol I wasn't actually in the country from 1996-2002 but I did try to keep abreast of things in the UK but this (probably mercifully ;) ) slipped right past me.
June 4, 201015 yr I wasn't actually in the country from 1996-2002 but I did try to keep abreast of things in the UK but this (probably mercifully ;) ) slipped right past me. fair play, i guess thats a good enough excuse! believe me, you missed nowt!
June 9, 201015 yr Not "absolute crap" and certainly not as bad as some of the charts that have been posted here from the five or so years that followed. This was the post-Britpop headache, cheesy pop was back and poor bedroom 'trance' records were just around the corner. That said, 'Paranoid Android' was an immense record, a Bohemian Rhapsody for the times, Olive came up with a good hook and chorus for 'You're Not Alone', Eels gave us some lo-fi goodness with 'Susan's House', Faith No More turned up their guitars to 11 for the very metal 'Ashes to Ashes' and, by far the best, The Tindersticks sneaked into the Top 40 (a rarity for them) with the excellent 'Bathtime'. Anyone claiming this chart is all rubbish should really give that a listen through Spotify, Youtube or whatever. Now onto the worst offenders: The Rembrandts made it back to the top 10 again when enough idiots realised they'd misplaced the cassette single they bought two years previously. I always hated Sneaker Pimps and 'Six Underground' was everywhere when it just didn't deserve to be. R Kelly's 'I Believe I Can Fly' is one of the worst records ever made.... ...and did anyone ever watch the TV programme North & South came from? A crap version of the Monkees. Wonder where they are now?
June 9, 201015 yr Like these... 1. Hanson - Mmmbop 2. Eternal ft Bebe Winans - I Wanna Be The Only One 3. Radiohead - Paranoid Android 5. Rosie Gaines - Closer Than Close 6. Olive - You're Not Alone 7. Rembrandts - I'll Be There For You 8. Cardigans - Lovefool 9. Sneaker Pimps - Six Underground   12. Shola Ama - You Might Need Somebody 13. R Kelly - I Believe I Can Fly 14. DJ Quicksilver - Bellissima 17. Katrina & The Waves - Love Shine A Light 18. Marilyn Manson - The Beautiful People 19. Toni Braxton - I Don't Want To 22. Bush - Greedy Fly 25. Korn - Good God 28. 911 - Bodyshakin' The ONLY 911 song I ever liked. 32. Eels - Susan's House 33. Faith No More - Ashes To Ashes 34. Seahorses - Love Is The Law 37. Gary Barlow - Love Won't Wait 40. Spice Girls - Mama/Who Do You Think You Are Each of these 90s charts bring back such great memories, I like most 90s tracks and would rate most of them above most of today's music. Totally.
June 9, 201015 yr My faves/comments; 2. Eternal ft Bebe Winans - I Wanna Be The Only One - A real 90's classic in my opinion, and this still gets regular airplay so has stood the test of time 6. Olive - You're Not Alone 7. Rembrandts - I'll Be There For You I actually love this, prefer it to the shorter version used as the theme tune. 8. Cardigans - Lovefool 11. Gina G - Ti Amo - I can barely recall this - Fresh was great though and of course Ooh Aah... 14. DJ Quicksilver - Bellissima 17. Katrina & The Waves - Love Shine A Light Definitely walked all over the rest of the ESC 1997 entries musically... 28. 911 - Bodyshakin' - This isn't bad, although I preferred Party People and their covers of both More Than A Woman and Private Number 40. Spice Girls - Mama/Who Do You Think You Are - Mama I liked, the other song was overrated imo

R Kelly's 'I Believe I Can Fly' is one of the worst records ever made.... ...and did anyone ever watch the TV programme North & South came from? A crap version of the Monkees. Wonder where they are now? I remember that show. I think it was called something like “No Surrender” or “No Limits” [though the latter title was in fact BBC Two’s British version of Entertainment USA, hosted by Jenny Powell in the days before DEF II]. I think the title song from the series was released as their third or forth single, though I can only remember the first two. From what I remember, the singles were not too bad as pop singles go, but I would not say were as good as others from the Watkins/Atomic stable like East 17, J-PAC or 2wo Third3 [especially when remembering “I Want To Be Alone (Greta G)” by the last act]. June 11, 201015 yr No Sweat! Just looked it up. Back in the days when we were expected to believe that spotty teenage boys could switch on a Casio and make mediocre pop in five minutes cf. at least two storylines in Byker Grove and the Australian mindf*** that was Pugwall.
No Sweat was a name that had crossed my mind, but as I got a ‘mental picture’ of Thunder in my mind [the band not the weather] I thought that it could not be that, as I seem to remember that No Sweat were a rock band from the late 1980s [well I think they released records around the time that The Quireboys, Thunder and Little Angels were all charting with hits]. I cannot remember much about the show, though I think it was like a toned down version of ‘The Inbetweeners’ with added music. For all I know, I think a couple of the band could actually be in the ‘The Inbetweeners’ now, as I only remember the green-haired guy with the glasses, who looked like a punk version of Beaker from The Muppets, and the lead singer, who looked like a squashed ‘mini-me’ version of either Nathan Moore or Daniel Amalm from Home & Away [Jack]. In addition to North & South, does anybody else remember ‘Byker Grooove’? Originally they were a pop trio featuring Donna Air, Jayni Hoy and another girl from the show. They were supposed to become the female answer to ‘PJ & Duncan’ but failed at this, even when they [Air & Hoy] got rebranded as a duo, under a different name. I think at this point, the band was called Jellyhead and they had a song called “Crush”, though it could be the other way around. Another musical show you may remember from the 1990s is Minty, the ‘Australian Hannah Montana’. I think the format would have been very similar to that of Hannah Montana, though I think it was supposed to be an English girl pretending to be a Kylie Minogue type of ‘actress, singer, whatever’ from ‘down-under’ [rather than just wearing a different wig]. I think the actor who was playing Minty was Australian, though I do not think that she ever did anything else, which is strange as you would have thought that she would have also turned up playing a role in Neighbours or Round The Twist. June 16, 201015 yr Ha ha, yes I remember most of those. Byker Grove also gave us 'The Best Thing' by Charlie around 1990/91 which flopped horrendously. The show's producers clearly had a real interest in pop music: the theme was performed by North East act The Kane Gang, there were various storylines about raving, dance drug culture, kids becoming proficient musicians, singers and DJs overnight and even a subplot featuring album bootlegging where Gemma Dobson, when offered a freebie, famously asked for the new album by Half Man Half Biscuit! No wonder the nation is so obsessed by "get famous quick" talent show TV nowadays - they were lied to growing up about how easy it all was!
