July 16, 200619 yr But sadly the way stars weight is judged is very extreme. If you're a normal size you're deemed 'chubby' or 'curvy'. If you dip much below what is expected of you you have Heat magazine saying you're too thin. There's a probably a few stone between magazine curvy and magazine ill. Exactly, Mariah was said to be curvy and then she started losing weight, and then a magazine (cannot remember which....) commented on how she was too thin, you really can't win.

They want their celebrities to be a bit chunky but in the most patronising way possible. They like Charlotte, Mariah etc because they look like 'real women'. But then they'd never feature on their best-dressed or best-looking lists. Then have glossy adverts with stick figures and adverts telling everyone how to lose a stone. What body image are they promoting? I get confused.

So do I and i'm a woman. I would never want to be intentionally that thin though, i'm kinda medium weight and happy with that. ^_^
July 21, 200619 yr Author It is a media obsession :( I feel sorry for the lieks of Kate Bosworth - 6 stone :o :( Its just not good for her and others at a similar weight. The pressure to eb thin has tainted what's really important in life; being happy. But its all about image isn't it?
July 21, 200619 yr Author Another one too :( She's going to end up killing herself if she's not careful. She needs to realise whats important; her kids. I wonder if David's saying anything to her  You'd hope we was
July 21, 200619 yr I'm surprised she hasn't had complications with her pregnancies actually with how thin she is.
July 21, 200619 yr Author No wonder she had casarians, I can't really see her having a natural birth, it ould break her :( She needs to sort herself out :(
July 21, 200619 yr It is indeed unfortunate Tim, the editors of these publications should perhaps be more careful of their target audience. Young kids as well as these celebrities could get hold of them.
July 22, 200619 yr It is indeed unfortunate Tim, the editors of these publications should perhaps be more careful of their target audience. Young kids as well as these celebrities could get hold of them. Oh I'm sure they are very aware of their target audience. I think these magazines do it on purpose. If every woman had self-esteem, which had not been battered by being constantly told their bodies were all wrong, they would not read 'Heat' etc. They would not care about celebrity's marital problems. The misery of others would be of little comfort. They would not see Jordan and Jade Goody as role models. They would see them as grotesque. They would not care about looking fashionable. They would care about their minds, their happiness and their morals. They'd actually like themselves. And all these dreadful mags would go out of business. (Sorry to generalise about genders - the discussion of how FHM and Loaded put pressures on men should be left for another thread.) Edited July 22, 200619 yr by Tim
July 22, 200619 yr I read Heat, Hello, OK and the others, and I don't feel the need to look like them, I don't buy clothes thinking "Oooh i'll buy that it looks fashionable!" but Cassidy said I was fashionable.... it does portray the complete wrong image to young girls who are going to end up insecure about their own appearance. :(

All I meant was that these magazines survive on advertisting so the cosmetics companies, clothes designers and chocolatiers want the people who read them to NEED to buy their products. And how readers are made to need things like that is by making them feel inadequate without them. It's a shame but it's been going on for decades.
