Wow, poor Jordin. However you want to coat it, those U.S. album numbers are extremely disappointing. "Battlefield" hasn't flopped and is on course to reach the top 10 on Pop, so there's no excuse. Hopefully it's a consistent seller, I guess...

Sparks: 'Writing Battlefield was therapeutic'

Jordin Sparks has described the process of penning songs for her album Battlefield as "therapeutic".

The 19-year-old singer worked with writers including OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder and Toby Gad on her sophomore record, which was released earlier this month.

Speaking to MTV News, she said: "I had so much fun doing it. Writing is really therapeutic, I am finding out.

"I've always loved to write. Ever since I was in the fourth grade I've written poetry and I've loved words and language arts.

"Everybody else in my family thinks I'm crazy, but it was my favourite thing to do... It wasn't until I was a little bit older that I realised you put music to [words] and switch things around a little bit and you have a song."

She added: "I didn't have very much time to write on the first album. I wrote three songs on that album and then I just hit the ground running, recording at the beginning of this year. It was so fun!"

Jordin Sparks debuts on the Billboard 200 at #7, with 47K sold, while David Archuleta’s summer tour-mate, Demi Lovato’s Here We Go Again snags the Top spot with 107K.

Sigh, sigh, sigh, sigh, sigh.

Elsewhere on the Billboard 200, Jordin Sparks' sophomore album "Battlefield" fights its way to a No. 7 debut, selling 48,000 copies. It's the "American Idol" winner's second top 10 set, as her 2007 self-titled debut entered and peaked at No. 10 with 119,000.

Sweet jeez, why are album sales SO poor?!

I hope the second single can do well enough to bolster the album sales and keep it selling after this, it deserves to.

I think the album is okay, a decent amount of good songs and not as bad as I was expecting after what some people have said. I'd say as a whole it's about level with her debut (if not slightly better), but without the obvious 4 or 5 hit singles that had.

Jordin Sparks: 'I'm a big fan of UK music'

Jordin Sparks has said that she is a big fan of UK music.

The 'No Air' singer has insisted that British acts have heavily influenced her own music style.

Sparks told the Daily Star: "I was brought up listening to UK pop music like the Sugababes.

"I love Dizzee Rascal, who I must have seen about 20 times, and The Saturdays."

The album was a grower for me, I liked a few songs straight off, but I'm enjoying the entire thing much more now. I love Don't Let It Go To Your Head, S.O.S. (Let The Music Play), and It Takes More.
The sales weren't posted. But you can look yourself, in the UK Chart Chat. ;)

awesome, thanks for tryin anyway

i dunno why they'd want to keep the director 'hush hush', it aint like its spielberg... :P

Hopefully the next single will boost the album sales :).

probably will. shes a 'grower' artist where all of her albums will probably just grow with single releases (like the last album), its coz she has a fluctuating fan base, not solid like some artists

Very true.

As long as she keeps spinning out singles, one right after another, then it will continue to sell consistently and could easily ATLEAST hit gold status. Has SOS (let the music play) been released to radio in the US yet?

I've listened to the new album a few times now. I dont like it as much as the first album. The first album was a grower for me whereas the second album I liked straight more instantly. I think there are more stronger songs on the first album. Some of the tracks on the 2nd album are lacking the power effect.

Recived the album yesterday and sounds 'ok' after the first listens.

Succes of both the single & album this far:

Yes, quite some time ago. Doing really well I believe
