Alexandra Burke 'Start Without You' [1st/next single]
I came on cuz I knew there would be reaction to the whole Radio 1/Playlist issue. They obviously have something against her. She is a perfectly good pop artist who makes pretty decent pop music (Im not big on the new one). Radio 1 claim to be a #1 hit pop radio station, blah blah. Also the fact that that welsh twat over at R1 tweeted what he did, shows that clearly they have a problem, otherwise, nothing would have been said. He's angry its doing so well without their support. Personally, I think the license payers should contribute to what is on the playlist. At the end of the day its us that pay to keep the station running and we pay the guys who choose the playlist to keep them in a job. They are notorious when it comes to the playlist. So bloody picky. But hey, gotta get used to it. All I can say is, well done to the fans who are supporting the song, going out emailing Radio 1 and the press, keeping going. And if all else fails, looks like shes still gonna be #1 at the weekend...

Record Labels and physical singles
Yea well then this is a case of it coming down to the label, not the artist. Her label probably know her reputation latley of her singles performance being quite unpredictable, therefore they arent going to take a risk to blow money on a physical cd roll out unless they have a 'sure to be hit', which she hasnt had in a long time. Therfore they will just promote the album by way of sending the song out to radio and putting it out as a 'download only'. Plus just because shes been about for a lifetime dosent mean shes 'directing' to an older audience. Some of her recent songs wouldnt appeal to her expected audience.

Record Labels and physical singles
Each record label have their own strategies, etc, some are more tight fisted than others but most of the time, it comes down to the artist. If the artist has an 'older' fanbase (30 onwards) then its likley the song will go physical. In most cases though usually releasing the first single from the album physically is a good promo opportunity, for the approaching album. Then download only usually follows after the album is put out, or maybe after the second single, especially if its people in the younger demographic (14-30), sometimes to encourage album sales at that point. Digital sales have a huge influence on the final charts. Sometimes labels put out singles not to sell the single, but simply to promote the album by way of radio play, so they were never expecting a high peak in the chart anyway, thats more the case with the fourth or fifth single onwards. Another thing is the budget allocated to that artist and returns expected. If a small budget is allocated, they are going to want to lower their costs providing profit maximisation. So they'll spend less money on putting out a physical cd but maybe increase promo in order to promote the fact its download-only.

'Teenage Dream' • Second Album Discussion
They are waiting too long to release this. The lead single is more of an 'instant hit' type of song and there is going to be too much of a gap between its peak and the album's release. You can maybe get away with that in the States but with regard to the UK, Radio stations are gonna start picking up on it very soon and if they end up not releasing it til August (usually a couple of weeks before the album), people will either be sick of it by then or will have given up, or even will have downloaded it illegally. Unless they are going with what Sony done with Kesha and Tik Tok, releasing the single soon then releasing a second single the week before or week of the album. Either way, their best bet is to bring the release forward to at least Mid-late July.

'Can't Be Tamed' ▬ Discussion
very surpised Hollywood (records) have let her do this. Maybe they are finally realising that they cant always rely on Disney to beef up sales and it actually requires some effort in the marketing department to actually send singles to radio, make good videos and release more than 2 singles per album (but I still dont think they have managed that last one  Either way, Im guessing once shes done with this (and lets face it, Hollywood will "discontinue promotional efforts" in around July as "sales will fall") she'll be on the bus to Jive or Interscope..

Aly & AJ AKA 78Violet // 78Violet
another funny thing is that rob covallo's dad is president of Hollywood, and what a feckin good job they are both doin. being crap at running labels seems to run in the family
