June 16, 201015 yr Hopefully South Africa can smash Uruguay tonight! Spain were very disappointing, however, if the Chile win the Swiss, and the Spanish beat Chile the group should be very tight, 3 teams on 6 points very possible!
June 16, 201015 yr Goals are not everything but must say the passes have been very poor. So maybe the ball has something to do with it. But many teams lack creativity in attacking...They try to go to the middle and shooting range. It's obvious that on this level it's not the way to create goals. So what we have left: goals scored after free kick or corner kick.
June 16, 201015 yr I don't really think that goals are a pre-requisite for a good game. I've enjoyed watching Chile vs Honduras, Spain vs Switzerland, Brazil vs North Korea, Italy vs Paraguay and Nigeria vs Argentina. There's only been 8 goals in those 5 games but they've all been good. I also think it adds to the notion that International teams are getting better. When the likes of North Korea, Honduras, New Zealand and South Africa haven't conceded a hatful of goals it does show that maybe there are no easy games in international football now.
June 16, 201015 yr Eh, I'm a bit disappointed with the play of South Africa agaonst Uruguay.....especially when their goalir Khune was sent off with a red card in the 76th minute....looks as though South Africa will be the first host nation to not make it out of group play......
June 16, 201015 yr Only people in Europe think Spain. Brazil are the favourites. Spain 0 Switzerland 1 Yeah. Spain are favourites no more. Shows you how unreal the thinking can get.
June 16, 201015 yr Maybe the Germans could be favourites now as they've been using the ball for six months  Tbh I'm annoyed after tonight. We gave South Africa the tournament and yet after they went 2-0 down FLOODS of 'fans' started leaving, yeah that's their so called 'passion' for the game  Made me think that maybe we shouldn't have given it to them. That was when the players needed them the most and they'll need the real fans in the last game! Hate people who leave early in general but I'm suprised there hasn't been a big deal made out of what I saw tonight tbh. I'll be peeping through my fingers when we're losing to Uraguay on penalties in the Quarter finals but at least I'll cheer on England right until the end! See I'm not saying we're gonna crash out, positive thinking! :P Getting behind your bloody team! Which is what some people even here need to learn to do. -_-
June 16, 201015 yr There were some really good games today :) . I was on the edge of my seat throughout Spain vs. Switzerland. One of the best games thus far and what a result! :cheer: Its always nice to get a shock in the World Cup, and Switzerland beat the favourites in the whole competition. There could have been numerous goals for both teams, with Alonso rocketing the bar for Spain. South Africa vs. Uruguay was a good game. I'm sad that South Africa lost, but Uruguay did deserve the victory. Forlan significantly impressed me, and I can't believe he was so sh!t at Utd. They could seriously be dark horses for the competition after tonight's performance. (I wouldn't really count their performance against France as they haven't been impressive to say the least... They lost to freaking China!).
June 17, 201015 yr Uruguay had a good game last night. I too wonder what was wrong with Forlan in Man Utd..Maybe he learned things there and didn't show his full potential until in Villarreal and Atletico. If France and Mexico played draw tonight, Uruguay would need only one point against Mexico.
June 17, 201015 yr Even the best goalie of the tournament so far has a howler. :( Five really good games in a row now :D
June 17, 201015 yr LOL at some people writing off Spain's chances over one loss. Teams that usually win start slowly anyway, they're still the team to beat..

Their defence isn't strong enough. Unfortunately the Dutch will probably fade out too. The Germans are the ones who have started strong that I believe can keep on going to the end. Don't forget the curse of the European Champions. Denmark - Didn't qualify for 94 Germany - Quarter Finals 98 France - First Round 02 Greece - Didn't qualify for 06 Edited June 17, 201015 yr by Grandwicky

Denmark - Didn't qualify for 94 Germany - Quarter Finals 98 France - First Round 02 Greece - Didn't qualify for 06 I don't rate Argentina as they qualified in 4th place amoung South American teams, but they are still playing better then Spain. Why do you say the Dutch will fade? They seem a rather decent and little mentioned team.
June 17, 201015 yr I always thought it. The first matches are about not losing, the second matches are about winning. First set of Matches: 16 Matches 25 Goals 1.56 Goals Per Match Second set of Matches (So Far): 3 Matches 11 Goals 3.67 Goals Per Match

They seem a rather decent and little mentioned team. Yes, but I think you fail to realise that Diego Maradona used the South American qualifying as an opportunity to experiment and play several different players. From the outset Diego stated that his plan was for Argentina to qualify for the World Cup, and that looking at as many different players and options was a priority over topping the qualification table. A total of 51 Argentina's played in these qualification matches. Therefore, don't go thinking for one minute that Chile & Paraguay are better sides than Argentina just because they finished ahead of Argentina in South American qualifying.
June 17, 201015 yr OMG, I feel so bad to be South African with such a useless soccer side I mean 3-0 loss to some random country I've never even heard of, on home soil, and with the vuvuzelas is pathetic! :( Hopefuly we play better when they come to my hometown, we still have a bit of a chance of qualifying though. . Just watched the Greece Nigeria match live today! The atmosphere is so insane OMG, I cant even blow a damn vuvuzela but all the Greek supporters literally every single one had their own personalised one decorated in the Greek flag! Ah and the match was such a thriller gosh! So glad they Greece won! All the Nigerians do for Africa is expand the illegal drug market anyway. .

First set of Matches: 16 Matches 25 Goals 1.56 Goals Per Match Second set of Matches (So Far): 3 Matches 11 Goals 3.67 Goals Per Match Breakdown of previous two tournaments with 32 teams (8 groups) between 1st, 2nd & 3rd set of 16 matches & lastly the 16 knockout matches. 2006 - 39 - 36 - 42 - 30 2002 - 46 - 35 - 49 - 31 Funny how they both have the same pattern, showing that historically it is the second set of group matches which are the relatively cagey affairs, before the Knock Out stages see less goals than any of the group set of matches.
