June 17, 201015 yr I love you Kath <3 1) Who has not heard of Uruguay? 2) I love how you imply the vuvuzelas are an actual factor to SA winning a game <3 3) Uruguay played much better which generally means you're going to win. SOZ
June 17, 201015 yr Hopefully Platini's cheats managed by a Paul O'Grady lookalike are getting justice served on them for the Hand Of Frog goal. Because THEY SHOULD NOT BE IN SOUTH AFRICA. Republic Of Ireland should be there. fLUxMRYJAso
June 17, 201015 yr The French have been boring so far in this competition, they need a win, or else its curtains.
June 17, 201015 yr Brilliant performance from Mexico and 100% deserved the win. France were just... abysmal  I literally can't believe how bad they are, especially when you consider the players they have on that pitch! So so glad it looks like the cheats are heading out :D
June 17, 201015 yr The French have been boring so far in this competition, they need a win, or else its curtains. Well I'll be cheering on the Bafana Bafana in their Final match. And lets hope Uruguay & Mexico play out an entertaining draw as it will be nothing less than France deserve. :D
June 17, 201015 yr Three interesting and entertaining games today!! I had two results I didn't want and one that I did. Argentina 4-1 South Korea --> I don't think the scoreline justifies how close the match actually was. Yes, Argentina dominated the first half, but South Korea were the better team in the second half up until the third win. There was an imminent threat everytime they got forward. Argentina got very lucky with their first goal, and one of the other goals should have been disallowed for offside. However, its no biggie as I still think South Korea will probably go through, and although I didn't want Argentina to win, they deserved the victory. Greece 2-1 Nigeria --> I do not want Greece to go through! They need a severely weakened and deflated Nigerian side in order for them to win, and they didn't do it convincingly, with Nigeria having some of the better chances even with ten men. They are an incredibly boring side to watch, and if they get through, they might as well forfeit the match because they won't beat whoever they face in the last 16. Nigeria deserved this result though through a severe lack of discipline. Shame :( . France 0-2 Mexico --> How dire were France? :o Mexico absolutely this victory! Everytime they got forward, they looked like a threat, and they are a very entertaining side to watch with the amount of pace they have. I'm interested to see how Hernandez will perform at Utd next season :) . There were a few Mexican players who were in contention for man of the match - Salcido, Rodriguez, Blanco, Hernandez and dos Santos.
June 17, 201015 yr I don't rate Argentina as they qualified in 4th place amoung South American teams, but they are still playing better then Spain. Why do you say the Dutch will fade? They seem a rather decent and little mentioned team. They are a very good team of course and if there is one team who have never won it that deserve to it's them. The problem is that they always peak to early (especially Euro 2008) and I think it'll happen again. If I'm wrong though I'd be very happy. :P I think tonight showed that France are as bad as people THINK England are in terms of a team that has a lot of good individuals. They have more world class players than we do yet they don't have the huge amount of average players playing around them like we do. Laurent Blanc is a great coach but he has A LOT of work to do to sort all of that out. Anyway Chicharito looks like he's gonna be a decent player for us next season :D
June 17, 201015 yr Hopefully Platini's cheats managed by a Paul O'Grady lookalike are getting justice served on them for the Hand Of Frog goal. Because THEY SHOULD NOT BE IN SOUTH AFRICA. Republic Of Ireland should be there. fLUxMRYJAso You do realise that at no point were Republic of Ireland winning that match? They would not have been guarenteed to through. No one can say that they should be there.
June 17, 201015 yr People moan about England being a team of great individuals who can't play as a team but I don't remember ever seeing them play as bad as France have tonight. They need a complete overhaul. The manager has no control, players do whatever they feel like and the squad is completely divided.
June 17, 201015 yr You do realise that at no point were Republic of Ireland winning that match? They would not have been guarenteed to through. No one can say that they should be there. ..... and I guess you do realise that in the first leg at Croke Park, Anelka scored off the post via a wicked deflection from a shot going wide, and Ireland had a stonewall penalty appeal turned down. Plus UEFA (= Platini) changed the rules so that seedings would apply to the eight play-off sides based on World rankings and not how they'd performed against the 1st, 3rd, 4th & 5th placed teams in their groups as they had done before). Hence neutral football fans have every right to say that Republic Of Ireland should have been there. And I have not even mentioned ........ the four members of the French national team whom were being investigated for their roles as clients of a prostitution ring that was being operated inside of a Paris nightclub with some of the women possibly being underage. The report also stated that two of the players were already questioned as witnesses by judge Yves Dando and a group of magistrates. The report described the two players as being one who “is a major player in a big foreign club” and that the other “plays in the championship of France Ligue 1". Later that day, the players were discovered to be Ribéry and Sidney Govou. During his interview with Dando, Ribéry reportedly admitted to having a relationship with a prostitute, but did not know that she was a minor at the time the relationship began. It is not known if Ribéry will be charged. On 29 April, the country's Secretary of State for Sports Rama Yade, after refusing to publicly comment on the case in its infancy, declared that any player placed under investigation should not represent the France national team. The following day, a judicial source confirmed that Ribéry would not be placed under official investigation, if at all, before the start of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
June 17, 201015 yr Your final point there has nothing to do with the merits of France being at the World Cup, Rich
June 18, 201015 yr Terrible referee in that game! Klose shouldn't have been sent off, a free kick for a 'high foot' that was actually an overhead kick and Vidic only given a yellow card when he should have been sent off for a deliberate hand ball.
June 18, 201015 yr Yes, but I think you fail to realise that Diego Maradona used the South American qualifying as an opportunity to experiment and play several different players. From the outset Diego stated that his plan was for Argentina to qualify for the World Cup, and that looking at as many different players and options was a priority over topping the qualification table. A total of 51 Argentina's played in these qualification matches. Therefore, don't go thinking for one minute that Chile & Paraguay are better sides than Argentina just because they finished ahead of Argentina in South American qualifying. Rubbish. Argentina had a run of poor results in the world cup qualifying under Alfio Basile - no Maradona experimenting here - and a final lost to Chile which signaled the acceptance that Argentina was no longer #2 in South America. This resulted in the resignation of Alfio Basile and replacement with Diego Maradona. Argentina hasn't improved much since then, including a 6-1 lose to Bolivia of all countries. In South America, Brazil is #1, while Chile, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay near in ability, although all of them have the problem of being inconsistent with away matches. Don't assume Argentina are the team they used to be based on history or lagging ratings, they are not.
June 18, 201015 yr The South America teams have played 7 games so far, won 5 and drawn 2, lost 0. European teams have won 3, drawn 4 and lost 6. Looks like a major shift of ability from European teams to South American teams so far. Edited June 18, 201015 yr by Ricky
June 18, 201015 yr Is it wrong that all of a sudden I'm scared of Slovenia? :( Slovenia 2 : 0 United States :o
June 18, 201015 yr Author England will be fine. Slovenia are goint to qualify, and so will England. Don't care if we finish 1st or 2nd. The 'best' European teams not having the best tournament so far so it seems...!
