Holland should be clear but I can see Chile giving Brazil a hard time.
That was pretty easy for the Dutch to be honest, if they get Brazil in the next round it be the hardest test for them.

Indeed. Netherlands-Brazil would be an amazing match to see!

Absolutely nothing in this World Cup has convinced me that my pre tournament thoughts that Brazil will win the World Cup will be wrong.

Tonight's match was a masterclass in efficiency, and unlike Spain (with unfit key players) & Germany & Argentina (suspect defences), Brazil are near full strength even though watching this match tonight I did not feel they needed to go beyond second gear.

Brazil are so annoyingly dull, but their defence will win it for them. Against the Germans or Argentina Chile would've created a hatful of chances (like they did in their group games) but today they had virtually nothing at all, one shot from Suazo...
I hardly watched the Brazil match I thought it was dull after they scored the 3rd goal I switched off, it was all over for Chile in the end, I couldn't see them coming back from 3-0 down. I just hope the last 8 will be more entertaining to watch.

Right now, Brazil looks like a safe bet to win the Cup.

VERY impressive playing, IMO. This is probably the best defense they ever had and IF they are attacking, the ball is in the goal more often than not. And we didn't see them really get under pressure yet. I think they can even switch to 1 or 2 gears higher if they need to.

They are playing more boring but more successful than in previous years. :D

They be more successful when they win it as hosts in 4 years time. :P They don't need to qualify

Dunga's Brazil reminds me of Johan Cruijff's Ajax Amsterdam from the 70's (not that I lived at that time...)!

They don't play the great style of that team but they're winning the games without any problems and no tension

+ they had no problem in such a hard group - it just reminds me of that old Ajax superiority.

They are a favourite to get to the final but I don't think they'll win - it's not 2014 yet.

Probably start as hosts and defending champions! :)

Blatter sorry for disallowed goals

Fifa president Sepp Blatter has apologised to the Football Association over Frank Lampard's disallowed goal in England's World Cup defeat by Germany.

Lampard was denied a goal in Sunday's 4-1 defeat, even though his shot clearly crossed the line.

Blatter said the debate on goal-line technology would be reopened when the International FA Board meets in July.

He also said sorry to Mexico after Argentina's Carlos Tevez scored from an offside position in their last 16 game.

:manson:

But as I've said before FIFA = corrupt.

Argentina & Germany = big boys so they benefit from the rub of the green, because advertisers/broadcasters who pay big bucks to FIFA want to see these biggest nations reach the final stages of the tournament.

England are also a big team though, I'd say - they were seeded for this tournament, after all and I expect they bring in a lot of money too.

England bigger than Germany

I'm afraid you've fallen for the little Englander tabloid media hype. Next you'll be telling me that the Premiership is the biggest & best league in the world.

Anyway today's matches saw my Work & Pub random Sweepstake country (in both) Paraguay still alive after a borefest against Japan; and again no goals at half time between Portugal & Spain.

A much better match, but Fernando Torres is doing his best Wayne Rooney impersonation = his movement is a bit sluggish, he is shockingly out of form and he looks like he does not want to be there. Maybe, he has already had a phone call from Roy Hodgson to fill him with confidence for the next season ... not. Portugal's defence reminds me of a crowded parked bus = difficult to get through.

Three words - Cheating spanish bast*rd.

Agreed. He might just win the Tom Daley award for that.

The best side won, but that disgusting behaviour has taken the shine off a very impressive Spanish performance.
