June 12, 201015 yr as you didn't specify any country? UK wise this via googling: "with legal downloads having been on the increase since the new millennium began, the UK Official Charts Company decided to organise the official UK Download Chart. Its inception was on 26 June 2004. In early January 2005, the week before the 1000th number one single topped the UK Singles Chart, legal downloads took over physical sales for the first time in UK Chart history. This has been the case ever since, with sales throughout early 2005 being very poor and all-time records for lowest sales being set throughout. Therefore, on 17 April 2005, the official UK Singles Chart incorporated legal downloads as well as physical sales in an attempt to boost flagging single sales. The first official Number One track on the download chart was The Pixies' "Bam Thwok". The single with the longest stay on the UK Official Download Chart is "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley hanging on to the top spot for eleven weeks. In week commencing 1 December 2008 Leona Lewis with her cover version of "Run" became the second fastest selling download of all time. Lady Gaga's single, "Poker Face" is the most downloaded song in UK Download history"

June 12, 201015 yr well if you mean counting in the singles chart, March 2006 was when they were allowed to chart a week prior to their release January 2007 was when they were allowed to chart weeks before the CD release, or if it didnt have a release although, downloads were allowed in the charts in 2005, just as long as the physical was out too
June 12, 201015 yr In terms of downloads counting in the UK singles chart, wasn't it March 2006? Checking my records... Downloads first included on 23/4/2005, but only from the week of physical release. From 18/3/2006, download sales allowed to count the week before physical release. Finally, from 13/1/2007, all download sales included.
June 12, 201015 yr The separate download chart was first established in September 2004 in which Cuntlife manipulated it so they could have the #1 with 'Flying Without Wings' I do believe. Downloads were then added to the main singles chart from April 2005 as long as a physical CD was also released. March 2006 saw the rules change slightly allowing songs to chart purely on downloads a week in advance of their physical release. Jan 2007 saw the rules established as they are today. Any song is able to chart from any period of time regardless of whether a CD is available in shops. Of course there are still exceptions to the rules as seen with certain B-Sides. I feel all boffy now for knowing this without even researching :kink:
June 13, 201015 yr I feel all boffy now for knowing this without even researching :kink: Does that mean - you checked one post before, and saw what I had written? :w00t: The download chart was test-run for 10 weeks before it became live, and the first official #1 & #2 managed just 4 chart weeks between them... June 13, 201015 yr Looks like the info about "Poker Face" is now out of date.... No I didn't actually and your tendency to post utter crap or pointless sarcasm about how you hate urban or whatever for the 10,000th time and following it up with :w00t: or some such after them is highly annoying. And I guess that article on the BEPs shows how small the physical market really is nowadays. They passed a million what? Two weeks ago and already 1,000,000 of those will be paid downloads within the next few days! Edited June 13, 201015 yr by Gramii

I didn't say a *word* about urban! Also, I find your constant complaining about my expressing my freedom of speech, equally annoying. And if I want to post a :w00t: I *will* post a :w00t:

June 13, 201015 yr My constant complaining? I don't recall having said anything to you before this thread on the issue actually. In that case I apologize. It's just that *someone* here had previously made comments along those lines, and I leapt to the conclusion it was you.
