June 18, 201015 yr I'm a big fan of Emile Heskey but when he's your best player you know you're f***ed. Only him, Cole and Barry can come out with the slightest credit tonight to be honest. You can't play Heskey when the team is lacking confidence or not performing; he's not going to provide any cutting edge in the final third, and if no one has the bottle to come forwards then his presence is useless, and you might as well have another goal scorer up front. However, I'm still a fan and I'm not giving up, it's in our own hands and we're good enough to go through. To all of those who are saying they hope we lose against Slovenia on Wednesday, you can f*** off and support Brazil you glory hunting morons. I could never wish us to lose. On the other hand if the performance doesn't improve drastically against Slovenia, it'll be best to be put out of our misery on Wednesday rather than getting thrashed 9-0 by Germany in the next round. :(

Emile Heskey today won almost everything played up to him, but there was never anyone near him to give the ball to or with the second ball. He kept tracking back and winning the ball back (surely the job of the actual midfield?) and twice dispossesed their centre halves to create chances. That's about as much positive output as the rest of the team put together. The debates around what system we should use and whether he should play is irrelevant, it doesn't detract from him being one of our better players tonight. Johnson, Rooney, Lampard, Gerrard, Carragher and Lennon were all much worse.

Johnson, Rooney, Lampard, Gerrard, Carragher and Lennon were all much worse. It's rather a mute point as his performance still fell way short of the required level, but unlike the others doesn't have the ability to reach the said level, hence why he can barely get a game at Villa. Your right though, if you can't get players to even try to perform, then deficiencies in the team selections and tactics are the least of your worries.
June 18, 201015 yr For those of you who didn't see Rooney's comments: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/w...010/8749208.stm Now I love Wayne as much as the next man, but this is ridiculous. Surely he can see it was justified? Those people spent hundreds if not thousands of pounds to get there, to see England perform like THAT?
June 19, 201015 yr However, I'm still a fan and I'm not giving up, it's in our own hands and we're good enough to go through. To all of those who are saying they hope we lose against Slovenia on Wednesday, you can f*** off and support Brazil you glory hunting morons. THANK YOU! The reaction tonight from the glory hunting mercenary f***ing fairwether (sp?) fans tonight has pissed me off. (yeah I'm more pissed off with people's reaction that the actual game!) Rooney was right with what he said then again he's not used to getting booed by his fans and funnily enough that team usually perform well :o I remember after 98 when Beckham was getting booed everywhere for what he did and we got so annoyed that we started cheering him when he touched the ball instead! This kind of behaviour is what I expect from City or Spurs fans and funnily enough the majority of the time they underachieve! Funny that  Yes we will probably not win it but if you are a fan of a team then you stick with them and get behind them no matter what! I never lost faith after failing to qualify for the Euros and when we go out I always cry my eyes but that's football! The agony and the ecstasy, hopefully there will be some ecstasy as an England fan for me one day, who knows? Never EVER boo your own players, full stop. Btw is it just me that thinks that Rooney doesn't look 100% fit and that Fabio needs to learn to take him off when he's not performing well? Heskey was again among our best players tonight and should have stayed on with Rooney coming off for Defoe. Joe Cole should have come on as well.
June 19, 201015 yr I disagree. I think fans are well within their rights to boo when the team shows a total lack of pride or effort during a football match, especially the ones that travelled to Africa. It must have cost them a small fortune for travel, accomodation, tickets etc and then there's the fact it takes hours just to get from venue to venue. And then the team performs like that? Totally justified imo. The only thing I don't agree with in terms of booing is singling players out or doing it during a match. After a match, and so long as it's targetted at the whole team and justified I have no problems with it. They've paid all that money and spent all that time and effort to go over and support England, at the very least they expect to be entertained and get their money's worth. In all honesty if i'd been given a free ticket to watch that dirge i'd have felt shortchanged. It's unacceptable.
June 19, 201015 yr Dreadful performance ...Where was the left winger? Barry, Gerrard, Lampard all in the middle and A. Cole was the only one attacking on the left? Barry or Lampard should've been replaced earlier by Defoe or J. Cole (He's not injured, is he?). Or maybe Rooney could've been used on the left and Defoe/Crouch and Heskey as strikers. Algeria totally ruled the midfield. Typical English 4-4-2 is what this team does best, that tactics was just one big mess.
June 19, 201015 yr Heskey did not play well! and if he starts the next game then Capello is a moron. All he brings is winning the ball from a big hoof up field and even then he gives it straight back to their players. All this does is encourage our players to play long balls all game. He'll score no goals in this world cup so what is the point in having a striker that cant score?! oh yeah and the stepover... lol. I feel bad for Defoe and Crouch having to watch that heap of crap play ahead of them, surely hes got to be one of the worst players at the world cup?
June 19, 201015 yr ... and if someone now tells me Heskey played well and brings alot to the team im gonna go on a murderous rampage cumbria style.

I feel bad for Defoe and Crouch having to watch that heap of crap play ahead of them, surely hes got to be one of the worst players at the world cup? I'm in complete agreement. What on earth must Aston Villa fans and players & Martin O'Neill think when a player who can't get a start for the Villa side, gets picked for Capello's England side whatever even though he is completely incapable of hitting a barn door with a banjo. I feel so sorry for decent English strikers (Carlton Cole; Zamora; Agbonlahor); whose place in the squad has been filled by this useless deadweight. Liverpool fans quickly realised he was useless, so what Capello sees in him is a mystery (maybe Emilie has blackmailed the manager???) as the whole world is laughing at us for playing a battering ram up front who can't score; can't head on target; whose step overs are so cringeworthy that a 13 year old girl with 15 minutes training could do a better job; and can't trap a bag of cement. Apparently he is picked by Capello because he is good at supplying the ball for Rooney to score. Well how many chances has Rooney had in 180 minutes so far. England did not play that well against the USA but deserved to win on the night; the same certainly could not be said of last night's abject performance; where Algeria had a handful of chances to put the game beyond England's reach in the first half hour. I always felt England being 4th favourite with the International bookmakers was overplaying our chances; but I never expected England to be as bad as they were last night. The biggest mystery (apart from where Frank Lampard disapears to when on the pitch in South Africa) is why has Joe Cole not come off the bench yet. He was outstanding in his cameo end of season performances for Chelsea; and was very good in the pre Tournament friendlies. Instead we put on Shaun Wright Phillips who can go past players for fun, but is a likely to put in a decent cross into the box as Emilie Heskey is to score for England. It was a strange atmosphere in the pub last night; but one thing we shared in common amongst the 50/60 of us was getting very irritated every time Heskey let a move break down in the last third of the pitch; and spontaneously booing at the end of the match just like the fans rightfully did in South Africa.
June 19, 201015 yr What a disgrace. :hithead: So many opportunities lost. Why is Terry on the team. He's crap. Rooney I think is just really overrated. Was actually impressed by Ashley Cole at least he was trying and when Jermain Defoe there's was a glimmer of hope but it was not enough for us to score a goal. Overall a very dire game. Algeria must be laughing at us. Edited June 19, 201015 yr by Tactical

I know we're you're coming from Nicky, but I completley agree with Mykul here. It's not as if the booing is targetted at one player.. if I went to watch United and they played like that I'd be disgustingly dissapointed, they played the style of football of a pub league team. There was no desire, drive or passion and they waited until ninety minutes was up and aimed it at the whole team. And after that performance, I bet they'll be demanding there money back. And I wouldn't blame them one bit.
June 19, 201015 yr Author Well I think booing is shameful on every level. I would never boo my team. But in this case, I think it's acceptable
June 19, 201015 yr Well I think booing is shameful on every level. I would never boo my team. But in this case, I think it's acceptable Oh totally, I'm not advocating booing or anything. When I used to have a season ticket at Old Trafford, there'd be a bunch of glory hunting morons there who'd boo at half time if we werent winning  I also used to watch Crewe every week, so I'm used to my fair share of dissapointment, I watched them get relegated, but they were never ever booed. However, if they had put in a performance like England did last night, I think they may well have been. I just don't get the whole England fans are glory hunters thing though? How is the fans (justifiably) booing the whole team after a shameful pub team style performance against a team they should rightfully be beating with a fair lack of trouble, make them glory supporters?
June 19, 201015 yr Even the bird that perched on the top of the goal post got bored, didn't even stick around to see the rest of the match :D
June 19, 201015 yr Author The problem is we're too hyped up. I fully believe the public and the media bought into all these victories in friendlies we've had of late - when they've been unconvincing to say the least. The media hypes up England so much, and I mean the whole Sun thing with having another star on the England flag and saying 'just maybe' is absolutely ridiculous and so arrogant. If any England fan geninutely felt we'd win the World Cup this year then I feel sorry for them, as it's not going to happen. Yes i'm being pessimistic, and I thought we'd win in 2006 but this England team is so unbalanced and disjointed that it's not going to happen. Gerrard is completely wasted on the left. Imo his best position is on the right. J.Cole-Barry-Lampard-Gerrard would lack width but it's a lot more balanced and experienced of a midfield and would do well for us, and would definitely allow for the full-backs to go forward. Algeria are a team we should be beating, but if you ask me I believe the England players thought they'd win it with ease and underestimated Algeria. We should have got beat last night. We're lucky to still be in the competition and have our fate in our own hands if you ask me. A point last night was no more than we deserved and we should look at the positives of it.
June 19, 201015 yr England were Sh!te! Even Scotland could have beat Algeria.. and thats saying something!
