June 22, 201015 yr Oh dear. I'm so ashamed. I didn't realise just how bad my entry would be. :( pleaseeee...like you thought it won't be a big hit
June 22, 201015 yr Just because you thought it would be a massive hit this time next month doesn't make it any more excusable that you sent it Aaron. Just so we're clear here.
June 22, 201015 yr On the third listen, I've narrowed the list down to 22 (originally 24, but two were expelled for cheapness). Damn.
June 22, 201015 yr Author Love The Way You Lie has blown up rather unexpectedly quickly hasn't it :o I knew it was obviously going top 40 this week but an instant top ten based entirely on word of mouth and artist reputation. Pretty impressive feat! Seeing as most people are always insisting that they vote purely based on the song quality and if Umbrella was sent it would still get the 18 etc... if they liked it more than everything else, I don't see its sudden chart success hindering it too much, but of course I'm not at liberty to say how well it's doing so far :kink: Plus I've only had a 5th of the votes in so hardly representative of the final results! I honestly think that Love Story doing so badly was becuase it wasn't as popular a song amongst BuzzJack as it was made out to be, as opposed to everyone purposely not voting against it. After all, Jai Ho and other examples of extreme cheapness have had no problem doing well.
June 22, 201015 yr Love Story was top ten in the Multichart at the time though? Jai Ho still had a few weeks left until release, whereas Love Story was #2 on the night the finals opened!
June 22, 201015 yr Author Love Story was top ten in the Multichart at the time though? Jai Ho still had a few weeks left until release, whereas Love Story was #2 on the night the finals opened! Did everyone who charted it also participate in BJSC? iirc, and I may not be, an awful lot of BJSC participants genuinely didn't care for the song, cheap or not. I just find it surprising that most cheap songs do well anyway, yet this (and maybe Riverside, which obviously isn't typical BuzzJack fare) didn't live up to expectations. The problem with cheap entries is that timing is of the essence - send it two or three weeks in advance and it's a winner, send it on the week of release and it does far less well, send it any time after that and you just look ridiculous. Yet most people still insist that they vote purely on how much they like the song no matter where it's from, and don't take 'cheap' etc... into account, so why is timing such a huge correlation with success or failure if this is honestly the case :o Personally, as I've stated before, I won't refuse to outright vote for cheap entries, but it falls instantly to the back of that rating bracket - hence I gave Hollywood 10 points because it was one of two 10/10 songs in that contest. But I always favour originality if I like two or more songs the same amount. So by the time cheap songs get down to a rating of 9/10 or 8.5/10, their chances of getting good points from me are significantly weakened, as the discoveries from the same bracket get the edge.
June 22, 201015 yr I don't give 'two shiny shits' about this Eminem/Rihanna song because it's as bad as its title.
June 22, 201015 yr I vote purely based on my favourite 15 songs, in the order I like them, cheap or not. "Love Story" would probably have been my 12pts if I was taking part at that time, as I do love Taylor Swift  And I know what Rich means by timing is of the essence - "Airplanes" was sent at exactly the right time, as it took off and reached the top 40 not that long after Do people tend to see Eurovision artists as cheap?
June 22, 201015 yr Do people tend to see Eurovision artists as cheap? Only good old Eurovision-ists (like rac-ists, you know what i mean) who don't know a thing about the contest and claim 80% of BJSC is obsessed with ESC on the level of Rich/me/maybe someone else too. Edited June 22, 201015 yr by Ljósið
June 22, 201015 yr Weren't you complaining how $h!t it was the other day? It got better as it went on, true story.
June 22, 201015 yr I can just feel the 18pts for Ruslana and T-Pain coming in by the bucketload :kink: Someone showed you the votes :o
June 22, 201015 yr Ehh. I love 'Love the Way You Lie' and I'll be voting purely on the quality of the songs entered. I hope most will do the same, as it'll be a shame for people to completely dismiss it just because it's doing so well at the moment.
June 22, 201015 yr I hope most will do the same, as it'll be a shame for people to completely dismiss it just because it's doing so well at the moment. Really? It's a bit pointless to send a track everyone would hear anyway without the contest...let alone have one do well which everyone IS hearing without the contest!
June 22, 201015 yr Really? It's a bit pointless to send a track everyone would hear anyway without the contest...let alone have one do well which everyone IS hearing without the contest! Yes, but at least it wasn't released a couple of weeks ago or something. As it's the week of the final voting this week and this is the release week, surely people will only really hear it though the contest atm (unless they go searching elsewhere). It probably won't be getting any radio play until the weekend at the earliest.
June 22, 201015 yr Really? It's a bit pointless to send a track everyone would hear anyway without the contest...let alone have one do well which everyone IS hearing without the contest! Agreed, but I'm also going to vote for tracks I LOVELOVE (see my chart), but I may or may not rank them below discoveries :kink:
June 22, 201015 yr Just because you thought it would be a massive hit this time next month doesn't make it any more excusable that you sent it Aaron. Just so we're clear here. I didn't even know it was getting a release. In fact, the extent of it's chart success worldwide so far is pretty unexpected. It seems to have charted purely from word of mouth, I don't think it was ever confirmed as the second single, it's got no video and no airplay. It's simply doing well because it's Eminem and Rihanna. I underestimated it. There wasn't even that much hype about it on here when the album leaked, even as a Rihanna track. I knew the album was released this week, if I thought it'd be top 3 on our iTunes midway through the voting (and possibly climbing) I wouldn't have sent it. I felt a bit sick when I logged into Buzzjack last night and saw this was in the iTunes top 10, I hadn't been following it's success. I almost feel like withdrawing from this contest, but I've been a part of every final since I've joined, I can't. Hopefully people will vote for the discoveries and not leave Rich with a totally predictable final.
