The video is great, finally saw it. I'm a little saddened with the hate in this thread for the song itself as it's quite a brave choice from somebody you'd expect to come back with something safe. A drum led track with no particular chorus, relying on the instrumentation, the synthy bit and Alesha's personality to sell it, yet it gets ingrained in your head fully after a few listens. Risky but I'm very glad she's done it, it shows that she's not afraid to be a bit different and god knows any chart bound song that pushes the boundaries a bit is better than the countless generic and indistinguishable tracks we've had around the top of the charts in the past 18 months imo...

Loving it more and more each time I hear it :D

Heard this for the first time this morning on Starz TV. Well...it's not exactly 'The Boy Does Nothing'.

It reminds me that tragic All Saints song from 2006 - the follow up to 'Rock Steady'. Can never remember what it was called because I try to forget the "song" exsists. Sadly, 'Drummer Boy' is already a non-fave. :(

Chick Fit! I can definitely see where you're coming from there actually. I was one of the very few fans of that song :D I thought the chorus was really good...It was no Rock Steady but I'll still never get the hate for it.

Totally agree it is like being a lone voice on most of the pop forums, the hate for this song is ridiculous. It is not terrible, tuneless and a poor effort from her.It is loud, vibrant and picks you up and suits Alesha perfectly.I imagine that if Katy or Christina had done it most people would be ecstatic and in raptures. She is doing something unexpected and I really hope the haters are proved wrong.

Maybe if someone like Christina or Pink was doing it ... the vocals would be better. Besides ... it isn't 'hate' going on ... just people saying what they think of the song (which is what was asked for). I think its dreadful ... not helped by Alesha's decidedly ropey vocals. And I like Alesha Dixon.

Chick Fit was WONDERFUL. This, however, is just a hot mess :(

This song is frecking amazing the video secured that. Great energy and great vocals :kink: She's a officially a pop marmite :D I want to learn how to drum like that. :D
At least it's playlisted on R1 :w00t:

The thing with this song is it's Alesha's 'Ensexification' record. Look at Rihanna - she became a sexy, dominant female figure around the release of 'Shut Up And Drive', which saw Rihanna's shorts climb up her thighs a few more inches and a choppy, 'bad girl' haircut to go with the entire transformation - even her album personified the transition to the sexier, risqué image.

As for Miley, her album 'Can't Be Tamed' follows the same route - splitting from her alter ego Hannah Montana and the 'Disney Princess' image - she donned a new image with plenty of black PVC, revealed flesh, and darker make-up than before - the songs she was singing, like 'Liberty Walk' and 'Can't Be Tamed', as well as the controversial performances like the one on BGT, saw her transition to a more sexy popstar.

The same thing is happening with Demi Lovato now - she's also ditching the Disney 'good girl' image and is working on an R&B album.

With Alesha, 'Drummer Boy' marks her foray into a sexier image, sound, and concept. Like Miley, Rihanna and Demi she's becoming more risqué in what she sings, and the lyrics involved - "Pick up your stick/Hit me with your best shot" is a far cry from "Does he wash up?/He never washes up". Looking at the video for 'Drummer Boy', you can see her thighs are on display too, with plenty of crazy outfits and a completely new image, because the Rule of Thumb these days is: Sex sells.

By the way, I love the song, love the video and the unquestioned highlight of said video can be veiwed at 0:40. :D

Watched the video in full for the first time, amazing! Makes the song a gazillion times better.
wow loved that performance, i hope the BBC let her perform on SCD this year. I hope this is a TBDN size hit at the least.
She's actually - to most people's surprise - a brilliant live vocalist, with high energy dance routines to boot! I'm behind her 100% on this song, it's a fantastic comeback from a brilliant personality. I wish her all the best with this song.
