Yeah, I think the piano in What If and Better in Time sounds similar.

 

So, in the top 10 we've got Love the Way You Lie and Airplanes that sound similar. California Gurls which sounds like Tik Tok. The Club is Alive and Commander which sound like Boom Boom Pow. We No Speak Americano which sounds like Tu vuo fa l'americano. My First Kiss which sounds like Blah Blah Blah. I Like It which sounds like All Night Long. Alejandro which sounds like Don't Turn Around and Csardas.

 

The only song in the top 10 which I can't think of a song it sounds similar to, or samples is Pack Up. I've only listened to the song once though.

The only similarity I can hear between LTWYL and AP is that both songs have a rapper and a female singer. Maybe it's just me :lol:

I'm not clutching at straws! :lol: The only one that's sort of pushing it is Commander and Boom Boom Pow. 5 of the 10 songs I mentioned (We No Speak Americano, I Like It, Alejandro, The Club is Alive and Pack Up) actually sample other songs, so that's definitely not clutching at straws.

 

California Gurls sounds a lot like Tik Tok, I think a lot of people agree with that. My First Kiss and Blah Blah Blah are very similar (the instrumentals of the first verses of each song are almost identical, and they have exactly the same vocalists).

 

In the chart show thread last week, a lot of people were saying they thought Airplanes and Love the Way You Lie sounded similar. It wasn't just me.

 

I think Commander sounding like Boom Boom Pow is the most dubious one. I think the similatiry between the two songs is that the instrumental of the chorus of Commander sounds like the "Let the Beat Rock" section's instrumental from Boom Boom Pow, which begins about halfway through the song. David Guetta was involved with both songs (I think), so that might shed some light on it.

 

However, Commander and Sweet Dreams both have "Turn the lights off", so they're a little bit similar in that sense, but that actually IS clutching at straws, in my opinion.

 

Anyway, there's nothing wrong with sampling (in my opinion). If anything, I enjoy it when one of my favourite songs get sampled. Also, I like most of the songs in the top 10. The only one I'm not fond of is Pack Up, but I've barely listened to it, to be fair.

Yeah, that's true. Halo and Already Gone seemed to have almost the same instrumentals! :o I think both of the songs were made by the same guy (Ryan Tedder, I think?), but it's the artists themselves that got the blame. :( Most of the ones I listed are just similar, or have a section that sounds similar to another song. It could easily just be coincidence for the non-sample ones.
