July 11, 201015 yr Author http://www.australian-charts.com/forum.asp...2908&pages= Gavin Ryan's Chart Commentary (Thanks to Gavin Ryan) Singles Katy Perry and her “California Gurls” (DL: 1 hold) are atop the ARIA Singles chart for a fourth week, edging closer to catching up to Katy’s first No.1 “I Kissed a Girl” which sat at No.1 for six weeks. And as Katy and Rihanna are the only two female acts to have hit No.1 this year, Katy has now doubled Rihanna’s run, as “Rude Boy” was at the top for only two weeks, we have to look back to Ke$ha’s “TiK ToK” as the last longest running No.1 for a female artist, that song was at No.1 for eight weeks from the 9th of November to the last chart for 2009. “I Like it” (DL: 6 to 3) by Enrique Iglesias feat Pitbull takes another upward move on the charts as it jumps from last weeks five to No.2 this week, possibly giving Enrique his second No.1 single here soon, whilst B.o.B. and Hayley Williams are back down to No.3 with “Airplanes” (DL: 2 hold) after their six broken weeks at No.2. Last weeks big jump into the Top 10 for Uncle Kracker with “Smile” (DL: 3 to 4) falls back one place to No.4 this week, and Eminem and Rihanna move up three places to land at No.5 with “Love the Way You Lie” (DL: 7 to 5). Travie McCoy and Bruno Mars are at No.6 for a third week with “Billionaire” (DL: 5 to 6), whilst former No.1 for Usher “OMG” (DL: 4 to 7, Phys: 13 to 15) is down three places to No.7 this week, but consolation for Usher as his duet with Justin Bieber is the biggest climbing track of the week. David Guetta moves back up two places to No.8 with “Gettin’ Over You” (DL: 10 to 8), plus he also features as guest act on the highest new entry of the week. Yolanda Be Cool and DCup are holding at No.9 with “We No Speak Americano” (DL: 9 to 10), and Eminem his the midway and end position in the Top 10, as “Not Afraid” (DL: 8 to 9) slips down three places to No.10. NEW PEAKS: Three songs move into striking distance of the Top 10 next week, with Adam Lambert climbing up six places to land at No.12 with “If I Had You” (DL: 21 to 15, Phys: 6 to 3). 3OH!3 and Ke$ha again make a small step upwards with “My First Kiss” (DL: 13 to 12), at No.13 this week. And Miley Cyrus is up three places to a new peak of No.14 with “Can’t Be Tamed” (DL: 16 to 13). Kylie Minogue’s “All the Lovers” (DL: 39 to 24, Phys: 1 hold) rebounds twelve places to climb back into the Top 20 at No.18 thanks to her high album entry, whilst right behind at No.19 is Scouting for Girls with “This Ain’t a Love Song” (DL: 17 to 18, Phys: 20 to 22), now in it’s fourth week at No.19. Justin Bieber and Usher score the biggest climbing song of the week overall, as “Somebody to Love” (DL: 46 to 19) is up twenty-seven places to No.20. Thirsty Merc climb seven places to No.30 with their “Mousetrap Heart” (DL: 42 to 31), and other local acts also climb up the charts, with Angus & Julia Stone climbing six places to No.34 with “Big Jet Plane” (DL: 37 to 36), Gyroscope are up eight places to No.36 with “Baby, I’m Gettin’ Better” (DL: 40 to 35), and re-entering the Top 50 and re-peaking at No.38 are Scarlett Belle with “Closure” (DL: 39 re-entry, Phys: 18 to 17), which is up sixteen places. Also up sixteen spots and cracking the Top 50 for the first time is Alexandra Burke feat Pitbull with “All Night Long” (Phys: 14 to 18), probably helped by the X-Factor adds on TV which features that song in it. The highest new entry of the week comes from two sources, it’s the lead single from the Step Up 3D movie, and the lead single from the third album for Flo Rida entitled “The Only One”. The song is “Club Can’t Handle Me” (DL: 28 debut) by Flo Rida feat David Guetta and it enters at No.28 to become Flo’s ninth Top 100 ARIA Chart appearance. He is currently on the charts as guest vocalist on Cody Simpson’s “iYiYi” (DL: 31 to 32) which is sitting at No.32 this week, and his last chart appearance was also from a soundtrack, “Jump” (HP-18, Sept 2009) with Nelly Furtado from the ‘G-Force’ film. Glee Report: With the Glee finale screening last week expect to see some songs from that broadcast charting next week, but the gang’s first single “Don’t Stop Believin’” (DL: 37) re-enters at No.39 this week, as that was the song that the contestants sang in the regional championships along with other Journey songs. Believin’ is back in at No.39, whilst their Top 10 entry for this year, “Jessie’s Girls” (DL: 34 to 38) is one place lower at No.40. Whilst lower down the charts, “Good Vibrations” is the big drop of the week, tumbling from No.41 to No.82, and hanging onto the tail end of the Top 100 is “Poker Face” at No.98. “Don’t Stop Believin’” becomes the Glee Cast’s eighteen Top 100 entry this year, so only six more entries for them to break the record of ‘All Times Entries in a Calendar Year’. Below Top 50: Charice feat Iyaz is the second biggest climbing track of the week, as “Pyramid” jumps up twenty-five places to land at No.52. Killers front man Brandon Flowers climbs five places to land at No.57 with “Crossfire”, and local act Little Red is up twenty one places to No.61 with “Rock it”. Three older songs also climb up the charts, with Pendulum regaining eighteen places this week with “Watercolour”, up from No.96 to No.78. Also up eighteen is Muse with “Uprising” climbing from No.91 to No.73. And re-entering the Top 100 at No.68 is Enrique Iglesias’ biggest single “Hero”, helped by two possible reasons. The new promo’s for the TV series ‘Rescue: Special Ops’ has 80% of the song played during the advertisements for it, and the fact that Enrique is jumping up the charts with his first big hit in six years and people are rediscovering his back catalogue. Actress, model and now singer Taylor Momsen (Gossip Girl) fronts post-grunge New York band The Pretty Reckless, who land their first ARIA Singles Chart entry at No.79 this week with the track “Make me Wanna Die”. It’s taken from the ‘Kick-Ass!’ soundtrack (May 2010) and will be featured on their upcoming August due album “Light Me Up”. Melbourne artist Michael Paynter is set to release his second album “This Welcome Diversion” soon, but in the meantime he has released the five track EP “Love the Fall”, which debuts at No.87 this week. The clip for the song features Lisa and Jess from The Veronicas, who Michael first met at the ARIA No.1 Awards in 2008, and this becomes his second chart entry, having scored a No.61 hit in July 2008 with “Closer”. The new single for Maroon 5 is entitled “Misery” and it debuts at No.89 this week. Lead singer Adam Levine goes through such misery in the clip (check the link provided), and this is the lead single from the group’s forthcoming third album “Hands All Over” which is due in September. It’s also their ninth charting single here, and first single since May 2008’s “If I Never See Your Face Again” which hit No.11 around this time in 2008. Last new entry of the week comes in at No.95, and is the third single from John Mayer’s “Battle Studies” album (TW-48) entitled “Half of My Heart”. It follows on from “Who Says” (HP-31, Nov 2009) and “Heartbreak Warfare” (HP-31, May 2010) and sitting at No.97 this week. This track also features guest vocals from Taylor Swift. Albums Eminem spends a third week at No.1 with his latest album “Recovery”, now becoming his longest running chart-topper since his 2002 set “The Eminem Show”, which spent seven consecutive weeks at the top of the ARIA Album Charts from the start of June 2002. In staying at the top, Eminem causes a third week for local artists to debut at No.2. Three weeks ago Sia debuted behind Eminem with “We Are Born” (TW-13), whilst last week Parkway Drive debuted at No.2 with “Deep Blue” (TW-07), now Kylie Minogue enters at No.2 with her eleventh studio album “Aphrodite”, its best world placing (so far), as it entered at No.3 in Spain, No.4 in The Netherlands, No.5 in Ireland and No.6 in Belgium (more to follow). The album was preceded by the single “All the Lovers” (TW-18), and will be followed by the next track “Get Outta My Way”. Last weeks three high new entries all fall down this week, with The Cat Empire’s “Cinema” down three places to No.6, Parkway Drive’s “Deep Blue” down five places to No.7 and Miley Cyrus’ “Can’t Be Tamed” also falls five places, landing at No.9 this week. Behind her at No.10 is another tween star in Justin Bieber who climbs back up one place to land at No.10. A third local act debuts inside the Top 10 albums this week, it’s the debut album for Amy Meredith entitled “Restless” which enters at No.8. It contains their two prior singles, “Pornstar” (HP-65, Feb 2010) and “Lying” (HP-10, June 2010), and their next single “Young at Heart”. Other new entries for the week include the second album from US metal super group Hellyeah, who enter at No.42 with “Stampede”, beating the No.49 entry of their debut self-titled album from April 2007. The ninth studio album for US hip hop group The Roots enters at No.71 entitled “How I Got Over”, and becomes their second ARIA Album Chart entry, having previously charted with their eighth album “Rising Down” which hit No.100 for a week in May 2008. Tickets went on sale recently for the December 2010 tour of Bon Jovi’s “The Circle Tour”, and that has helped their “Cross Road: The Best of” collection to jump back up thirty-seven places to land at No.41 this week, whilst their album “The Circle” re-enters the Top 100 at No.51, having previously reached No.4 upon debut back in November of 2009. Also climbing back up are albums by Guns N’ Roses, “Greatest Hits” (65 to 44), The National with “High Violet” (93 to 45), Adam Lambert and “For Your Entertainment” (70 to 46) and Rihanna’s “Rated R” (79 to 55).
