Posted July 11, 201015 yr Rule changes for 2011, presumably as a reaction to a string of massive flops for Sweden at ESC :snif: From Scandipop; This week, SVT announced some new rules for next year’s Melodifestivalen. The most drastic one of all, was to almost halve the deciding power of the jury that selects the songs. Previously, they’ve been able to choose 28 of the 32 songs that would compete in Melodifestivalen in any given year. The remaining 4 would be wildcards chosen by SVT (wildcards usually being a more popular and successful act who would be be given more freedom to choose their song). For 2011 though, the jury will only be able to choose 15 songs. And SVT will be choosing 15 songs too! What does this mean? Well at a guess we’d say that SVT’s clout will mean a higher calibre of song and a higher class of artist too. In the last three years alone, the SVT wildcard choice has been responsible for songs by Salem Al Fakir, Darin, Peter Joback, Marie Serneholt, EMD, Malena Ernman, Andreas Johnson & Carola, and Amy Diamond! Another new rule is that for the first time ever, non Swedish songwriters are allowed to submit songs. However, they must have at least one Swede as a co-writer. We can imagine that Swedish songwriters will now be besieged by other writers from all around Europe, begging for them to accept a co-writing credit! Last year’s introduction of the Webjoker selection gave us one of our favourite songs of the year’s contest ‘Come And Get Me Now’ by Highlights & MiSt. The Webjoker selection means that Swedish people can submit songs via an online voting process, from which one winning song gets a place in Melodifestivalen. However, it is worth noting that the winning song by MiSt was vastly different (and vastly inferior at that) to the finished version we got thanks to the SVT pushed intervention of dansband Highlights. In the end though, the song could only finish 7th in its heat. But this hasn’t deterred SVT from trying again. Instead, they’re doubling the Webjoker round, and now two songs will be selected from it instead of one! The final new rule worth noting is the one which allows one live instrument to be played on stage. Previously, all music must be from a pre-recorded backing track with live vocals. But now, one instrument will be allowed to be played live over said backing track too. This new rule does seem a bit pointless, given that it’s only one instrument. It’s not really going to help a band much. However, it does advantage single artist performers like Salem Al Fakir, and the inevitable one or two imitations of Belgium’s Tom Dice that we’re gonna get next year! Sounds great, I know a couple of Swedes, think I might be able to co-write a song with them for MF? :kink: Not sure about the 'one live instrument' bit, but I do like the fact that SVT get to pick half of the songs/artists, as this will attract some very big names/songwriters for next year I should think :D

July 16, 201015 yr Yeah saw that a few weeks ago, the new rule is a good add tbh but i would also personally want to participate in a song creation and that is not allowed. :(
July 25, 201014 yr As if you would have a chance :kink: Plus he's ancient! :o Eric Saade? He's only 19, which is younger than you :o Or Peter Joback? He's 39. I'm confused. Your first line (in bold) made it sound like you were carrying on from my mention of Eric, then your second line still sounded like you were talking about Eric, but that doesn't make sense
July 25, 201014 yr I was talking about either of them in the first line (that they are actually celebrities and us mortals aren't likely to get even near to them :( (Bar lucky Rich who however shamefully missed his chance when standing in that queue (?) watching Eric roaming his tongue down the poor Sanden's throat)) and Peter in the second of course, sorry for messing it up  However I take my words back, he's quite attractive tbh. This photo is 2 years old though, but i don't think he changed that much. http://www.videren.net/wp-content/uploads/pictures/MammaMiapart3_BE83/080704_mammamia14.jpg http://twistinthedark.files.wordpress.com/2008/11/pjdm043.jpg I would.
July 25, 201014 yr So would I actually, especially in the first pic  I am a fan of the older man

September 16, 201014 yr Author You'll need a hell of a lot of money. Looking at CDON.com and other Swedish websites, it's all just gone up and up and up in price since I went too. Now I've moved out and am very very very broke, I won't be going anywhere next year :( I was hoping to go to ESC but I can't see it happening now. Oh well, I've paid for internet access and my TV licence so at least I can still watch MF and the Lena show, I mean ESC :magic: Ooh, I'm living with two German guys now, also 23 years old, and they love Lena! I said UK never does well because we send crap to ESC and they agreed that Germany usually do too and reeled off a list of nearly all of the German entrants from the past 15 years - I was impressed!
September 16, 201014 yr Rich's definition of heaven, to live with people who love Eurovision :kink: (assuming i got the fact that nobody from your family didn't like ESC that much right, Rich? :o ) Edited September 16, 201014 yr by Parker
September 16, 201014 yr Author Rich's definition of heaven, to live with people who love Eurovision :kink: (assuming i got the fact that nobody from your family didn't like ESC that much right, Rich? :o ) I don't think they love it, maybe Germans are just more aware of the artists sent to the contest than 99.9% of the UK are. But they like Satellite at least  My family despise ESC :(
September 16, 201014 yr Oh! It's quite shocking since most people here at Russia would most definitely either mix up our 2009 and 2010 entries or not remember the latter one at all. :( My mum does not care about ESC as well. In fact there's nobody in real life who would love ESC with at least 25% of my love to it :( Everybody's too 'i have coolness, i'm so cool, pfft Eurovision is poppy it's not cool, i will not watch it, desperate housewives is starting! *rushes to the tv*' :nocheer:
September 17, 201014 yr Author Some countries (hi Sweden) take it wayyyyy more seriously than others. Approximately nobody in the UK would recall Josh Dubovie by this point  It's interesting educating these German guys in the ways of British life and music industry. I said that they play no foreign language music here AT ALL. So we then immediately walked past two clubs, one playing We No Speak Americano and one playing Alors On Danse. Way to prove my point :drama:
