Posted July 16, 201015 yr ACTS WITH UK No.1 SINGLES IN 3 - OR MORE - DECADES 1) CLIFF RICHARD - 5 Decades - (1950’s, 1960’s, 1970’s, 1980’s, 1990’s) 2)=ELVIS PRESLEY - 4 Decades - (1950’s, 1960’s, 1970’s, ‘The Noughties’) 2)=QUEEN - 4 Decades - (1970’s, 1980’s, 1990’s, ‘The Noughties’) 4)=BEE GEES - 3 Decades - (1960’s, 1970’s, 1980’s) 4)=ELTON JOHN - 3 Decades - (1970’s, 1990’s, ‘The Noughties’) 4)=BLONDIE - 3 Decades - (1970’s, 1980’s, 1990’s) 4)=MADONNA - 3 Decades - (1980’s, 1990’s, ‘The Noughties’) 4)=U2 - 3 Decades - (1980’s, 1990’s, ‘The Noughties’) 4)=KYLIE MINOGUE - 3 Decades - (1980’s, 1990’s, ‘The Noughties’) 4)=USHER - 3 Decades - (1990's, 'The Noughties', 2010) I’m only counting Acts who are credited on a Hit. Hence, why Paul McCartney is not in the List. His 1960’s No.1’s were in The Beatles. ’Mull Of Kintyre’, (1977), was as part of Wings. He’s only had one Solo No.1 - ‘Pipes Of Peace’, in January 1984. He also had 2 1980’s No.1’s as part of a Duo, & as part of a Multi Act Group. He was also on the original ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas’, by Band Aid, in 1984, & on the 2004 re-make, in Band Aid 20. Diana Ross had a No.1 in The Supremes, in 1964 - ‘Baby Love’. They did not become Diana Ross & The Supremes until 1967. In 1974, ‘Baby Love’, was a No.12 Hit, as a Re-issue. It was credited to Diana Ross & The Supremes - but, it wasn’t in 1964, when it went to No.1. So, Diana can only be credited with her 1971 No.1, (‘I’m Still Waiting’) , & her 1986 No.1, (‘Chain Reaction’). She was also on ‘We Are The World’, the 1985 No.1, with the Multi Act Group, USA For Africa. Please let me know if I missed out any Acts. Edited July 16, 201015 yr by zeus555
July 16, 201015 yr Yeah, I was gonna mention Usher :P You Make Me Wanna in the 90s, Burn and Yeah! in the 00s and OMG in the 10s.
July 16, 201015 yr Abba 1970's & 1980's UB40 1980's & 1990's Cher 1960's & 1990's Hollies 1960's & 1980's U2 1980's, 1990's & 2000's
July 16, 201015 yr Author Laddergoat, & Bray - Thanks for telling me about Usher. I've added him to my Original Post. Peteseaton - U2 are already in my List. I only wanted to show Acts with 3, (or more), No.1 Decades - which is why I left out Cher, & ABBA etc. Spice Girls had 2 Decades too - 1990's, & 'The Noughties'. As did The Shadows - 1950's No.1's with Cliff Richard, & 1960's ones both alone, & with Cliff. Take That, & Robbie Williams, have 2 Decades of No.1's too - 1990's, & 'The Noughties'. Then there is Michael Jackson - 1980's, & 1990's. The Beatles had 17 No.1's, but all were confined to just one Decade - 1960's. Edited July 16, 201015 yr by zeus555
July 16, 201015 yr If you wait a couple of months then Robbie & Take That will both have number ones in three decades. . It's kind of sad to see Usher in amongst all the other acts on that list. All the ones on that list are often thought of as being music legends, whereas Usher simply isn't. Although 'Yeah' is one song guaranteed to get me on the dancefloor. LOL Edited July 16, 201015 yr by laddergoat
July 17, 201015 yr In two decades is not really an achievement imo. It's more of a timing issue. Even Billie has no. 1's in two decades. Looking forward to seeing the next no. 1 by C. Richard. Might happen when he dies...but hopefully before :P
