September 8, 201014 yr That's a stupid winner IMO, there were so many better songs on that list. If I'd have been on the pannel like I applied to be, I wouldn't have let that happen.
September 8, 201014 yr What an UTTERLY pointless winner. I'm a HUGE pop fan but that has to be one of the only mainstream pop songs of 2010 that's completely passed me by because it's THAT mediocre. Then again, it's only £20.

September 8, 201014 yr Awful winner  I've not seen one person say that they think it's a deserving winner, can't understand how it won.
September 8, 201014 yr I don't see why people are complaining. Example's been one of the better artists this year so far, and it definitely makes a change from the usual girlband victories! At least it wasn't Mini Viva!
September 8, 201014 yr Tbf, from what I can remember the entire shortlist was a bit naff. It's not the winner that necessarily annoys me, more the entire competition...
September 8, 201014 yr Example's one of those that nobody can agree on a favourite song by, it's hardly 'THE DEFINITIVE POP MOMENT' of the last 12 months. I will always favour Watch The Sun Come Up, and I know others prefer Won't Go Quietly or his new single over the rest. He's a very decent artist, but that particular song was nowhere near the best pop song of the past year, although granted better than a Mini Viva win.

To be fair, Popjustice have NEVER picked winners that could be called 'THE DEFINITIVE POP MOMENT OF THE LAST 12 MONTHS'. Very little on this original shortlist would have fitted that description either. Maybe Bad Boys, but I hate that anyway, so I'm not crying.
September 8, 201014 yr I am one for saying it's a deserving winner! SO pleased that there wasn't another 'let's give it to Xenomania, ESPECIALLY because one of their acts turned up' moment. Would have preferred Bad Boys to win, as you say Shoat that is a more definitive moment, but Kickstarts is a bloody good pop song and I'm kinda glad a male artist won!
September 8, 201014 yr Author ^Agreed (except the Bad Boys part) Edited September 8, 201014 yr by SKOB
September 8, 201014 yr I agree Once is MUCH better than Bad Boys, but it didn't make as much impact with the public, and I can't imagine anyone in a few years time thinking "2010...the year of Diana Vickers!"
September 8, 201014 yr Personally I much prefer all of Example's other singles but it was by no means the worst song on the list. The list of nominated songs was just a pathetic state anyway and the only songs which I think would have worthy were Tokyo, Bad Boys or Marina, and possibly Nerina.
September 8, 201014 yr It was frankly RIDICULOUS of Kickstarts to win (given the song title IS A LIE AND IT NEVER GETS STARTED), especially with Marina, HURTS and Sophie in there. I had to set up an alternate Trashlexis £2 Prize in order to register my discontent effectively.
September 8, 201014 yr Oh Hurts and Sophie I could live with, but I'm THOROUGHLY glad Marina didn't win. I think she's by far the most hideously overrated thing to come out of 2010 so far, with one of the ugliest singing voices I have ever come across. She goes FAR too out of her way to seem deliberately "wacky". Just DIABOLICAL.
September 8, 201014 yr ^ I agree surely 'Hollywood' was the more obvious choice ... not that bothered who won though tbh, Popjustice has gone to complete $h!t now.

I think that's why I Am Not A Robot got enough of a consensus to get past round 1 as it is - it's just a simple, gorgeous pop song done very well. I love her personally but can understand why others wouldn't, and certainly IANAR is probably the least grating of all of her tracks. Popjustice at least seemed to learn from the mistake of putting In For The Kill in last year - amazing, but Bulletproof would've done far better as it was nowhere near as polarising.
