September 9, 201014 yr Admittedly I Am Not A Robot doesn't annoy me as much as Oh No or Hollywood, so you might have a point there.
September 9, 201014 yr Oh Hurts and Sophie I could live with, but I'm THOROUGHLY glad Marina didn't win. I think she's by far the most hideously overrated thing to come out of 2010 so far, with one of the ugliest singing voices I have ever come across. She goes FAR too out of her way to seem deliberately "wacky". Just DIABOLICAL. Praise the lord Tanya Branning, I'm not the only one! I thought I was alone in finding the love for her totally mystifying. Hollywood might be the most hideously misjudged song of recent times - this is not 2006 anymore, ridiculing pop culture in song has already been done to absolute death and nobody on this earth would dream of comparing her with Shakira. I'm just glad the public don't seem to be at all interested.
September 9, 201014 yr Apparently the final three in the end was Kickstarts, Bittersweet and I Wish. My favourite won of those three but those are my least favourite singles from all involved. I Wish knocked out Hurts - Wonderful Life in an earlier stage - OH DEAR. http://www.flyingnelly.com/?p=476
September 9, 201014 yr That's really quite ridiculous. I Wish, really? That's what makes Example's win all the more astonishing / pleasing - I Wish progressing so far just show how easily Popjustice will lap up any old tired $h!t as long as Xenomania's involved.
September 9, 201014 yr I think that's why I Am Not A Robot got enough of a consensus to get past round 1 as it is - it's just a simple, gorgeous pop song done very well. I love her personally but can understand why others wouldn't, and certainly IANAR is probably the least grating of all of her tracks. Popjustice at least seemed to learn from the mistake of putting In For The Kill in last year - amazing, but Bulletproof would've done far better as it was nowhere near as polarising. What is the problem with polarising though? Are they trying to make a decision based on what most people (the public) would be happy with or just the song that they thought was the best British pop song? I say they should go with the latter. Regarding Marina - I can understand the distaste for her. She's certainly not bland. Her single choices have not been to my taste but she has great stuff on her album - Obsessions, Mowglie Road, Numb, Guilty and Rootless are all better than Hollywood and Robot. Oh No! is amazing and should have been nominated if it was released in the correct time frame. Personally speaking, Starry Eyed should have won this year.

I'm just glad the public don't seem to be at all interested. Praise the lord Tracy the barmaid, I'm not alone! I agree with you on the whole dissing pop culture - it's worthy enough and everything, but the way people raved on about it, you'd think Marina was the first one to ever dream up the concept! She has been a bit overshadowed by Ellie Goulding I think - it goes to show that even in the age of GaGa, you need to do a bit more than put on a "wacky" voice to sell records.
September 9, 201014 yr Probably it was too mainstream for the oh so cool voters present at the voting evening but Bad Boys REALLY should've won. It's just in another league to everything else on the list - one of the slickest British songs of recent times, anthemic and strangely melancholic. Fantastic melody. It's got it all. The top 5 should've looked something like this: 01. Bad Boys 02. One Touch 03. I Won't Kneel 04. Bittersweet 05. I Wish I'm sure they felt they had to put male sung songs through in the name of variety but those 5 are all so much stronger than the rest of the list. I have no idea what the fuck Tinchy Stryder was doing nominated, and if he had to be then why it was that song rather than Number 1.

They're going to go for the one that was the best British pop song - I wasn't necessarily referring to the public, but the song that would most unite the judges (they get about 40 or so people to judge it). I love Oh No! and it made it onto my personal list over I Am Not A Robot, but I would have always put in the latter if I ran the thing as it would be far more likely to get agreement on being the Best British Single than Oh No! - surely more important I think.

Did you even NOTICE Mini Viva and Sophie Ellis-Bextor being top three? Or Groove Armada going out first? Number 1 wasn't eligible anyway - the time frame is July '09 to July '10. I think Number 1 was frogleaped by Take Me Back for last year's nominations though...

Wonderful Life is in no way inferior to those two Mini Viva songs and that Sophie single in my opinion. Although Hurts would have been my preferred winner, I can agree with you that Bad Boys would have been the best winner overall, for the fact that it probably has been the defining pop song of the last 12 months, along with Fight For This Love, which I'm surprised was not on the list.

I worked out from his top singles of last year that FFTL likely was the next possible option - everything above it made it in.
September 9, 201014 yr All out war broke out when the result was announced on PJ.I assume those voting in the final must have been drunk. http://www.popjustice.com/forum/index.php?topic=23976.0
September 9, 201014 yr I have no idea what the fuck Tinchy Stryder was doing nominated, and if he had to be then why it was that song rather than Number 1. 'Never Leave You' may be mediocre, but 'Number 1' is awful ear rape. :puke: He shouldn't have had any song nominated to be fair...
September 9, 201014 yr Nah, Number 1 is pretty great. Punchy, memorable. Unlike NLY which was his worst single until that awful Olive sampling monstorsity came along.
