No, she WAS a trendsetter. If you can give me one decent example of how she's currently setting trends in the pop world I will retract my statement.

 

What are you basing it on the fact she isnt a trend setter? Hard Candy? One phase in her career. To me she has been raising the bar on every album and setting the trend untill Hard Candy, but im not gonna wite her off just becuase of one mistake.

Jark how is Beyonce a robot? are you saying she doesn't show emotion in her music, cos I completely disagree if so!

She has a spectacular voice in terms of technical ability but her vocals are almost completely lacking in emotion. If I Were A Boy for example is one of the most emotion-free songs I've ever heard in my life. On Halo (which is an amazing vocal performance) she didn't even pretend to give an emotional vocal, she just completely went for it and shout-sung the walls down. And it was amazing but it wasn't emotional.

On the whole, very pleasing results for the top 10. GaGa wouldnt be my choice, and I certainly find her overated and didnt vote for her. But it was always going to be her, and her songs are mostly quite good, so no real complaints.

 

Rihanna's a bit too high though, the Rated R album was good but a dissapointment and I find there are numerous Urban females who are a lot better than her but just dont get the airplay.

 

Brilliant to see Beyone, Alicia, Kelly and Pink this high though. Four fantastic female artists and it's brilliant seeing them higher than Kylie and Britney.

It's not often I would agree with someone like sclub7fan001... BUT... in this case he was spot on, I too thought Shoat was in his 30s. :o

Loved this countdown. Shocked Madonna didnt get top 10. Thought Kylie would have been top 5. Suprised by a couple of acts in the top 10 which to me didnt deserve it. And Lady GaGa even though I love her def didnt deserve to win IMO.

Like who? I really don't think there's anybody on the urban scene whose music is as fresh and packed with hooks as Rihanna's. Amerie always used to be the token underappreciated R&B femme but she's gone to absolute shit. Kelis used to be too but she's (wisely) moved on to making dance music. I can't think of a big name R&B artist who should be getting the sales or exposure Rihanna is getting but isn't.

01. Lady Gaga is indeed setting trends because ever since she emerged there have been a ton of singers dressing provocatively/wackily in an attempt to mimic her outrageous style. It's even evident in established popstars who have started dressing all CRAZY because they/their marketing people think that's what made Gaga a success, when actually it's just a small part of her success along with the enigma and the huge tunes. But I digress.

 

02. 'Pointless lyrics to generic pop tracks'? Have you heard Revolver? MY SEX IS A KILLER MY LAV'S A REVOLVA - so deep! So meaningful! Such a gloriously avant-garde backing track! Not a Madonna loon at all but credit where credit is due. And just becuase new acts think that you have to wear stupid outfits to be famous then more fool them. Talent should be enough. She is very talented but the whole wacky outfits are just a gimic to get her publicity and its getting a bt borin. I doubt she will be doing it in years to come.

 

As for Madonnas lyrics. I see you only picked mentioned 2 recet tracks which agree are rubbish lyrically but her albums lyrics in general wipe the floor with GaGas.

Britney 'only' coming eighth is a bit of a shocker but I certainly don't mind! Best song is probably Toxic (for the melody, not the now quite dated production) or Early Mornin'.

 

Kylie's best song... HMM. Ever-changing for me but I think right now I would say More More More or Love At First Sight. All The Lovers truly does come close though, and I'm not just biased towards it because it's so new. An incredible song.

 

Alicia is wonderful and I think the last album is finally getting people excited about her after a long period of being a consistently good but hard to get excited about sort of artist. Best song for me is probably Unthinkable or No One.

 

I would say it is her best for me personally, stunning, euphoric, glorious song. Finally usurped What Do I Have To Do as my Kylie favourite!
