The "flop followed by a big hit" thread partly inspired this, can you name any albums which initially flopped but were saved by future single releases from it?

Examples could be Robbie's debut album which was later saved by 'Angels', or Nickelback's album which was saved by 'Rockstar' (although this one did have major success elsewhere so I guess it didn't matter as much).

Christina Aguilera's Stripped being saved by 'Beautiful' is another big one.

Noisettes' Wild Young Hearts

Initially peaked at 7 and plummetted, but 'Never Forget You brought it some longevity at the top end of the charts (it also brought it back into the top 10 for a week IIRC)

It brought it back for 3 weeks. I'm not sure whether to properly count this one, but I see what you mean.

didn't alicia keys album debut quite low and then after the x factor and all those big appearances it went to #1?

I dare say it was that combined with her version of 'Empire State Of Mind'.

Again, I wouldn't properly count this one. Can anyone name some interesting ones which looked like they had no hope of being saved?

Err... Timbaland - Shock Value II? IDK rly

The Black Eyed Peas - Elephunk

It entered at #69, peaked at #3 when Shut Up was released, dropped heavily, then rose when Hey Mama and Lets Get It Started were released.

Dreams (Todd Terry Radio Mix) saved Talk On Corners by The Corrs thanks to Radio 1 playlisting it + Royal Albert Hall concert at the same time...

You're Beautiful saved Back To Bedlam by James Blunt which had initially smashed in at #56 before disappearing quickly - without that single it's safe to say that the album wouldn't have been inside the top 1000 sellers of the noughties, let alone the top one!

Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill? Started at 46 - and took almost 6 months to go top 10 then went stellar with Ironic and Head Over Feet.

I suppose this might be quite common with new artists - established acts will be difficult

Didn't Dirrty get to #1?

I'm unsure whether it was because of You Know I'm No Good but Back To Black debuted at #3 and fell pretty heavily but climbed up after Christmas back to #1 in early Jan 2007 and well the rest is history -_-
Busted's debut album is another example. Released after What I Go To School For, it flopped and dive-bombed until Year 3000 came out :heehee:

Beyonce I Am Sasha Fierce debuted @ #10 and falled out of top 20...

First single saved that album, and others..

Pixie Lott - Turn It Up

I remember it falling like a brick after Boys & Girls was released but Cry Me Out gave it som longevity and it rose back into the Top 40 and had consistency.

The Saturdays - Chasing Lights

When it was released after 'Up' it seemed to fall quickly, but when 'Issues' was released it climbed back into the top 40 and then got a new peak of #9.

Back To Bedlam probably is the best example of this, can't believe I didn't think of that one :P

Diana Vickers - Songs from the tainted cherry tree

It rose to #13 last week from the release of The Boy Who Murdered Love
