Opening a new topic for the opening weekend of fixtures, although i'm not sure if it's going to get many replies, so maybe it can become a general new football topic?

Anyone here off to any games this weekend? I'm going to Peterborough v Bristol Rovers, feeling very optimistic about the season ahead, we haven't had to sell anyone we didn't want to sell, and seem to have a much stronger squad than our Championship squad last season. Grant McCann has already been looking like a brilliant signing, great left foot, very capable of taking free kicks and corners. Can see him dominating the central midfield in plenty of games this season!

I'm not an avid football fan but I've been monitoring the Hull situation pretty closely and think we're resigned to a mid table finish this year. We need to spend the next three-five years paying off players that we should never have bought in the first place and getting ourselves in a position where we can grow and push for promotion. It's time for us to finally use that depth of talent in the youth area and not rely on rejects from other clubs. We also need to get rid of Jimmy Bullard, so if there's anyone on he that would like his services (excellent money management included) then it will cost you just forty grand a week. Worth a punt if you ask me.

I can't wait!!!

We've finally signed a left back in Ryan Bertrand on a 6 month loan from Chelsea. I quite like him, good player. Can't see him ever getting anywhere at Chelsea though and hopefully we can get him permanantly after, glad we've finally given up on Nicky Shorey. Looks like we might be signing Peter Whittingham from Cardiff too, providing they get Jason Koumas off Wigan. What a signing that would be, would make up for the summer of frustration.

I'm going to Peterbrough - Bristol Rovers on Saturday too. One of my mates at work is from there and is a Posh fan, so there's a few of us going down there for a day, and will take in the game whilst we're there, looking forward to it, hopefully get to see Boyd do something! Still wish we'd signed him... :(

Posh will have Jimmy Bullard back Jonny, maybe on about 5k a week though

Haha hopefully Boyd won't disappoint you RFC, I'm looking for him to be the top scoring midfielder in the league this season, think it's very do-able. Which stand will you be sitting/standing in?

I'm still not sure how Boyd is with you. I know he didn't work when we signed him, but I'm very surprised he's not got playing Championship football at least this season. Maybe Gary Johnson has been such an influence, or maybe there were underlying reasons why he didn't do well for us and it's why other clubs haven't signed him?

I'm looking forward to tomorrow, have no idea where I'm going to be though!

Norwich City vs Watford this evening. :) I hope they can keep their home form strong this season. Not sure if Grant Holt will be playing, he was due in court in Shrewsbury I think.
Is there gonna be a predictions thing this season ? guessing who finishes where in premiership

Forgot about that! Will open a thread now...

The Championship looks like it's going to be as exciting as ever. 11 games, 11 winners.

Middlesbrough, Reading, Forest and Bristol City all losing, all bar Forest at home. The unfancied Millwall, Watford and Scunthorpe all opening with wins.

Posh will have Jimmy Bullard back Jonny, maybe on about 5k a week though

Good game yesterday. I think £25 a ticket is a bit pricey for League 1 though, luckilly I'm a student so got in for £15. I sat on the right hand of the biggest stand, near the away terrace.

Boyd was pure class, his goal was fantastic and his passing excellent. He's not a League 1 player, you'll be top 6 minimum if you keep the front 3. McCann's set piece's were awful until he scored one! Not sure why the centre-half got Man of the Match, they played well but Bristol found it easy to create a few decent opportunities in the first half, Lewis saved Posh a couple of times.

Yeah Championship is certainly going to be interesting. Very surprised there were so many upsets!

Jonny I saw Hull yesterday and I know i've been critical of them in the past, but they were quite decent before. Bostock was MOTM - very good signing I feel you've got there, could push you into the play-offs if he stays fit. Obviously it was only the first game of the season so you can't read too much into fitness levels as they're all going to be knackered! But the defence looked very shaky at times. If they were in trouble they'd try and get out of it, instead of doing the sensible thing and putting the ball out of play. Swansea showed nothing really, but a team with a bit more class and you could be in big trouble. There's a lack of speed really aswell...I know orthodox wingers are a thing of the past now really, but the wide players had no speed to beat a man. Saying that there's a lot of experience in the team so who knows. Hopefully if you can get Bullard off the wage bill then you can make one or two decent signings, but the problems at Hull financially are massive. Excellent crowd there yesterday - well over what I predicted!

Yeah it is a bit expensive, prices went up this summer as they were frozen last summer. I'm guessing the club expected to stay up and thus thought they'd be able to get away with a price rise, but the relegation happened.

Agreed about Langmead getting MOTM, was a weird one for me aswell. Actually think the centre back pair looked a bit dodgy at times, should improve when Zakuani is back from injury though. Was great to see Tomlin get on for a bit, looks like he could be a key player for us this season from the bench, just needs to work on his fitness as I said in the transfer topic. Good start!

Carlisle opened their season well yesterday with a 2-0 home win over Brentford. Superb. I wonder whether we'll be able to keep this up.
