Lottery draw for tickets to Robbie

A MASSIVE 15,000 tickets will be issued for Blackpool's Illuminations big Switch On with superstar Robbie Williams.

But organisers have vowed a percentage of those will be reserved exclusively for Fylde coast folk.

From next week, people will be able to register online to be in with a chance of getting a ticket to the Lights extravaganza on September 3.

Tickets will be allocated at random in a lottery-style.

And Real Radio and Smooth Radio, who are behind this year's Switch On weekend, will announce the rest of the star studded line up in the coming days.

Hoteliers and tourism leaders have hailed the announcement that music legend Robbie will be man behind the switch this year as a massive coup for the resort.

Claire Smith, vice-chairman of StayBlackpool and owner of the Number One guest house, said: "You can't really top Robbie can you?

"The news just keeps getting better and better for Blackpool at the moment.

"I am sure many of the smaller hoteliers will have been flooded with calls for rooms after the announcement was made.

"He appeals to everyone, from teeny bopper girls to women of a certain age." :arrr:

Robbie Williams to illuminate beachfront

By: HollywoodNews.com

Soon-to-be-wed singer Robbie Williams will turn on this year’s Blackpool Illuminations, according to reports.

The 36-year-old star will flick the switch on the famous attraction, which illuminates six miles of lights along the seafront at the popular holiday resort, on September 3rd.

According to BBC News, Williams said: “Blackpool has so many happy memories for me and it will be a real thrill to turn on the 2010 illuminations.”

Williams, who is set to tie the knot tomorrow with fiancée Ayda Field in LA, will reportedly not be singing at the event, but it is thought that it could be one of his last solo appearances before he rejoins former band Take That.

Talking about the Blackpool event, which is seen by around three million people each year, Williams said: “This will cap my 20th year of making music and I can’t think of a better place to celebrate that than Blackpool.”

The lights will remain switched on until 7 November.

Robbie Tops The Bill To Light Up Blackpool

Friday September 03, 2010

Lulu Sinclair, Sky News Online

Robbie Williams is due in Blackpool tonight to switch on the lights that will stay on for the next 66 days.

Thousands will be there to see Robbie switch on the lights

Williams will head a celebrity cast, including Russell Watson, a Lancashire native, Alesha Dixon and Wanted, five boys with great appeal for the teen market.

Also in the line up are Bond, Gabriella Cilmi whose first single Sweet About Me was the most played single of 2009, and US pop rockers, the Plain White T's.

While Robbie will not be performing, there will be a medley of the star's greatest hits to electrify the audience.

Locals were so enthusiastic about his appearance that thousands logged on to the visitBlackpool website, officials say.

It is not known if his new bride, Ayda Field, will be with him though fans are hoping for a glimpse.

"This is truly a wonderful line-up and we're delighted that we'll be welcoming thousands of people to the resort for Switch-On night," said councillor Maxine Callow.

The illuminations attract more than three million visitors a year and stretch across the world famous sands for more than six miles.

The first lights display was put on in 1879, with just eight arc lamps lighting up the promenade.
