I agree with most people said, I can't do artists covers as I usually don't do well with them they tend to flop badly, doing obscure covers like Russt and Notso, its my niche and my comfort zone, I'm not sure if that comment was aimed at me, but if you look at artist covers some of them they don't use the band take Arcade Fire The Suburbs cover album, where is the band image on their cover. With Ellie Goulding's single I just gave it a different spun instead of using Ellie's face on the cover, the title of the song inspired me to do a picture of a writer instead, and gave it a journalism theme, it just fits the title of the single the fonts I used just fit the cover well. I can't cut and paste that well, this is my comfort zone.

Robot's cover is excellent this week, one of his best work to date, why did I not think of doing something like that.

If you want my honest opinion on Marina & The Diamonds cover I didn't think much of it, it was pretty samey, I've got nothing against DJ Charly covers some of them are outstanding. If you have your own comfort zone and you feel comfortable with that... that's fine, it dosen't bother me, but I like what I do its my niche.

I'm not talking about my covers, I assume the points I receive (or don't receive)... It's just a feeling I have today... For example, I find very unfair that Seanster's or Steve's covers are not top 3 this week, their Paloma Faith covers were fantastic and I'm sure it took hours of work... It's probably because key-voters don't vote during summer holidays... ;)

As much as I love Steve, and I think his covers are getting better and better... his Paloma Faith cover was, just about the exact same as the actual cover, with a pink effect over the top and Ghostface Killah added (nothing against you Steve, like I say I think you're really improving, and will soon become one of the best). As for Seanster's, I agree, it was a stunning cover - one of the best of the week IMO, but the week was really HIGH QUALITY if you ask me, there were plenty of really good covers. Seanster did end up coming 5th with a respectable point score at the end of the day.

It's a shame that you are leaving, because your covers are always different to everybody elses, and original in their own little way. Nobody else super imposes faces onto bodies - so credit to you for doing so. I don't for a minute believe people vote based on the designer, it's just people have different views to yourself on the best covers. There's never usually 2 pair of votes exactly in the game - and at the end of the day, the game shouldn't be taken too seriously.

Anyway, I hope you don't leave for the first reason given. Sure, if time isn't on your side then leave by all means, as anybody would. But if it's because you disagree with the Top 3, then I really hope you don't leave the competition.

tbh i didn't think much of my cover last week but it did take a while to do. I was however surprised how high my points score was. At the end of the day this competition is for fun (for me at least), i take it seriously as far as trying to come up with my best work every week but I enjoy making the covers and enjoy seeing how good other peoples covers are.

As Robot said, regarding the Paloma Faith cover, nothing against Steve as Steve is really improving, I just found his Paloma cover like an ordinary Paloma cover, with nothing extra, Seanster done pretty well in the end, but the standard was pretty high, as designers are improving.

I know how you are feel for example when I did a Kylie cover it didn't too well, I was expecting it to be higher, but it never made me want to give up, I just wanted to get better and better and experiment with other ideas it seems I'm on a roll now, as I found an inspiration to do better and improve.

What I usually do at this time when I used to host it, is give the game a break when the run of 16 ends, with a return date for the second week of September, which fits in nicely to the end of the year with 16 games of 16, but that is up to Steve, but I've already done a cover for next week and the week after, I usually plan ahead. :(

Unfortunately there will be a break but i'm not sure how long yet. I made a really good cover for next week as well :snif:

Notso, Russ, Steve, Robot, Mikey, Jamieed and all designers I forget to mention here, I understand you're doing your best every week with your very different softwares, I also see better quality covers week after week, Robot's new cover is a good example... I still think it's important that the competition is opened to everyone and every kind of "techniques". I was just very disappointed by this week's rank but it's not important anymore.

Thanks everyone for your kind words, I sincerely appreciate your human qualities. Will probably change my mind after all and do something for this week, if I find the time of course... :)

Another thing which I forgot to mention, last week was a poor turn out by Friday there was only 9 covers, I had to PM a few favours from some members to come up with a cover, as the competition was fairly sparse, so there wasn't many points available, hence why some covers didn't do so well. If more members applied last week it would have been a different story to the final outcome. Hopefully this week, well so far we have 2 new applicants to the game, that should feed the points everywhere, but we also have to remember it is a cover competition we are judging on, not for your favourite member or artist, you are judging on the cover itself.

In the end it was only a 6 point difference between cover 3 and cover 4, coming 4th is not the end of the world, as me coming second to last from bottom a couple of weeks ago, some members just need their time at the top. I still have to crack the #1 spot yet, a top 3 finish is nice for a change than the usual bottom 6.

I've change my cover, could someone please give me an honest opinion of it? :(

That's the cover from the Sunday supplement of News Of The World, I just find it very cheapy and those flash bulbs are everywhere, you did ask for a honest opinion, sorry to be blunt. :(

I don't get what you mean, most artwork uses a photoshoot, it just so happens that this one appeared in a newspaper (not that I knew that anyway - I saw the image in Buzzjack's The Saturdays forum). I like the lights - it adds a bit of brightness because before I added them it was a bit too dark... Thanks anyway.

I like the idea Theo but I don't think the image makes a good cover as 4 of them are standing and 1 is crouching on the left it just doesn't look right (but that's just me obviously).

ah Charly, don't disappear on us - your covers are always among our very best on here. I think we all just have off weeks - for me, the covers I do that I love, nobody else seems to... the ones I design and think...hmmm... about... they're the votes winners.

I have to say I think the winner last week by Notso is probably my favourite ever entry in this competition - and most of yours make up the rest of my 'all time top 10'.

I think there's room for us all here, all techniques welcomed..... but for you to bow out...no.... you're not allowed :P

I'M THE SAME, like my fave cover I've done really is that CC one I submitted the week before last and the Cherry Ghost one I did, not great points scorers but it's my favourite techniques.

BTW, speaking of great covers, I think your Dan Reed - Coming Up For Air one is my favourite, with LOTS of Notso_Hampton ones in there too.

The Dan Reed one was one of my favourites, too - but didn't get many votes in the competition. It's strange, really... all art is personal - different things will 'get' different people. Interesting, I think.

I don't understand why this design thread isn't the most popular thread on this site - it's the one thread where members are encouraged to be really creative, to volunteer something they've sweated long and hard over - the downturn in people voting and visiting the thread's disappointing.....

the second one Jamie :)

Russ the thing that i think turns people away is the fact that they feel they won't win, which i think is a shame as the real fun for me is from being creative and finding new ways to be creative, a win isn't the most important thing for me.
