Saturdays put Geffen on course

Universal’s Geffen label is looking to score its second UK number one single within the space of three weeks after the Saturdays opened up a narrow lead on midweek sales.

Singles

The girl group’s Fascination/Geffen-issued single Missing You is around 4,000 sales ahead of Flo Rida featuring David Guetta’s Club Can’t Handle Me at this early point in the week, according to OCC Data. The Saturdays’ current highest chart performance is number two, achieved in 2009 by both Just Can't Get Enough and Forever Is Over.

Geffen, which was revived under Colin Barlow in 2008, hit number one a fortnight ago with boy band The Wanted’s debut single All Time Low. This was replaced at number one after a week last Sunday by Ne-Yo's Beautiful Monster. The Ne-Yo hit is ranked fourth at this stage of the week, behind the Atlantic-issued Club Can’t Handle Me and Interscope/Polydor’s Love The Way You Lie by Eminem featuring Rihanna.

Missing You is joined among the Top 10 sellers by one other brand new release, 4th & Broadway/Island’s Tinchy Stryder whose In My System is ranked sixth. Island is also targeting another Top 20 entry this Sunday with Devlin’s newly-issued Brainwashed presently the week’s 20th top seller.

Albums

On the albums chart Sonovox/Mercury’s Arcade Fire, who debuted at one last Sunday with The Suburbs, are little more than 200 sales ahead in their bid to spend a second week at the top. Chasing them is Eminem whose Interscope/Polydor album Recovery is now aiming to reclaim the number one position for a second time. In a pretty static Top 10 679/Atlantic’s Plan B and Parlophone’s Eliza Doolittle are at this stage in third and fourth positions, the same places they attained on last Sunday’s chart.

There are no new entries showing up in the Top 20 with the highest arrival, Tempa-signed Skream, in 27th place with Outside The Box. Expected to join them among the new entries is a re-issue of Interscope/Polydor act Queens Of The Stone Age’s 2000 album Rated R. This originally reached 54 in the UK but midweek sales suggest it could finally make a Top 40 breakthrough

PLEASE READ REVISED RULES

[01] Any member that is caught spamming, or trying to cause an argument to get a reaction will be severely warned with a ban for 7 days from posting on the forum.

[02] This is a mid thread for every artist do not go on and on and on about a certain artist to bring the board into disrepute.

[03] Please be patient when you are asking for a request, as you might not get an answer straight away.

[04] Any member asking for information that isn't in the updates we don't have, always read the topic before you post, I do not want to see questions like Where is Britney? repeated several times on every page of the thread, once is enough, bookmark the page if you don't have time to read all of the topic. Its not that hard.

[05] Do not use BLOCK CAPITALS when posting a sentence its considered as shouting and rude.

[06] Do not use Text Talk.

[07] Do not use a light colour font when posting please its hard to read the topic, not everyone has 100% vision.

[08] Please give a mention to who posted the chart info or the site name where you seen the mid info if you are copying and posting the chart info elsewhere, it takes forever trying to re-edit all the information up for you to see.

[09] Please do not post lists, or sales info unless you are told to by myself or a chart mod, if you do have sales info that you wish to share round them off to the nearest thousand and name your source, do not post precise sales figures.

[10] Do do not bash any Saturdays, Mollie is fit

I think:

1 - The Saturdays

2 - Flo Rida

3 - Ne-Yo

4 - Eminem/Rihanna

5 - Yolanda Be Cool

10 - Tinchy Stryder

This thread is going to be mayhem this week :o

I think The Sats will be #1 today and tomorrow, but Flo will retake it on Thursday and Friday and see out the week.

Quite glad about that tbh, Up and Ego (and even Forever Is Over to an extent!) are far more deserving of a higher chart position than Missing You, although MY is growing on me a bit.

Sorry if this has already been asked but does anyone know where Missing you by the saturdays is in the mids today?

I agree Up & Ego are first class tunes. I'm on the other side of the fence so far as Forever Is Over goes... Didn't rate it. :teresa:

The Sats for #1! Fingers crossed we get some sales so we can see just how far ahead they are..

I promise I won't go wild in here..I know it's getting on some people's nerves. :D

Apparently someone on Popjustice forum has said The Saturdays are #1 in the midweek selling 22,000 and are 4,000 ahead of Flo Rida

3.7k (20%) ahead, if they don't freefall on iTunes then they might get it, but its going to be difficult.

*cough*Issues/Work*cough* :P

I always thought 'Work' deserved far better than a #22 peak. Even if the video is an 'Umbrella' rip-off, it was such a great song.

Whut? They're nothing alike.

As much as I don't like to admit it I am betting Missing You is as Front loaded as a Mike Tyson punch. Cannot see 3.7k being enough to hold Flo Rida off with.

Look at the last scene of 'Umbrella' and the "rain" scene in 'Work'. Plus they are wearing similar outfits in those scenes. ^_^

Yes, that maybe. But the whole video itself not so much - although I'd PAY to see the girls naked with silver paint on. :kink:
