Yes, I Have A Dream is horrible. And I say that as an ABBA fan since 1992 (I am 26 to be fair). The Spanish version is better, the Westlife version is (somehow) MUCH better.

It truly is a bad day when you can say Westlife have done anything better than anyone, let alone ABBA, but I am inclined to agree.
the Westlife version is (somehow) MUCH better.

now that's pushing it :o Westlife are just the pits.... they make me bring up bile by even typing their name.

My arse! Yeah the addition of sleigh bells really benefits this song. Not trying to make a quick Xmas buck at all.

Westlife's version of that song is vile. The song sucks anyway, but how anyone would rather listen to their voices than Agnetha's and Frida's is just beyond me.

Ah, no, Westlife being better...that's a bit too far. I'm not that fussed on IHAD, but Abba's version has its good bits - the music after Frida says 'I have a dream' is pretty good, and the pause in 'I believe in angels' near the end.

The Day Before You Came is a glorious piece of pop music. The Blancmange cover was fantastic as well.

Now THAT I agree with. ABBA just has the edge for me though.

As for IHAD, I know anything else >>>>>> Westlife in general, but their version is somehow much less cheesy and better arranged. As I said though, ABBA's spanish version is good.

oh man i love abba! along with hounds of love, s.o.s. is easily my best song of all time. it's one of those songs that can actually just cheer me up when i listen to it. plus it's so well written, i read somewhere that it was one of john lennon's favourite songs too.

i'm really not keen on dancing queen, the winner take's it all etc. i dunno if it's cos they're just so overplayed or what but they just don't click with me. i prefer the lesser known ones of the ones that are known if you know what i mean like voulez-vouz and honey, honey. i still need to listen to the albums in full though, i'm just worried i'll listen to them all and find no more gems and it'll really disappoint me :P

I have the boxed set of the 8 albums plus the cd of other songs/rareties. Cost me €20 which I consider a bargain. I actually haven't listened to any of it.
I dont like Dancing Queen at all - I find it very hard to dance to - it's too slow. Chiquitita is my fave of what I know.

The best thing about Dancing Queen is that Elvis Costello stole bits for Oliver's Army.

And apparently Glenn Matlock based Pretty Vacant around S.O.S.

I know this will be an offence to some people but I really like the Erasure cover of SOS - some of Vince Clarke's best work, in my opinion.

i think Erasure played a big part in the Abba revival

and besides, Vince looks a lot like Bjorn !

They did a lot for Abba

Agnetha did a lot for lycra !

I can't stand Dancing Queen..... but I do like Winner Takes It All - beautiful song.

The albums are packed with hidden gems, too - Lovers Live a Little Longer on Voulez Vous, Soldiers, When all is said and done and the title track from The Visitors, Hole In Your Soul from The Album, My Love My Life and Tiger from Arrival, Happy New Year and On and On and On from Super Trouper, 'So Long' from 'ABBA', 'My Mama Said' from, I think, Waterloo.

I agree that my favourite ABBA moments are the more off-the-wall ones, and Day Before You Came is one of the greatest songs ever written.

Some of my more recent favorites by ABBA are Lovelight, Dreamworld, I Am the City, Just Like That, and Giving A Little Bit More.....along with Me And I, Fernando, Put On Your White Sombrero, You Owe Me One, and Under Attack....

early in the 60s songs often had a little intro

eg the Sandy Shore song...

Venus must have heard my plea

She has sent someone along for me....

It was a trend that died out in the swinging 60s

so it was sweet to see Abba revive it in one or two songs

Lay your head on my breast, so you hear every beat of my heart

Now there's nothing at all that can keep us apart

Touch my lips, close your eyes and see with your fingertips

Things that you do, and you know I'm crazy 'bout you....

Kisses of fire, burning burning Im at the point of no returning ...

One brilliant song too.... !

All these parades that go on up and down the country each summer

Manchester Pride etc....

They should all have at least one float belting out Abba music and a few hot

chicks as Abba lookalikes....

that would really spice things up !
